Wonderful 2007 People 250 stalls when hot. Especially in 90+ degree temperature. Dashboard gauge says not overheating. I ride it for about 10 minutes and then it dies, like I've run out of gas. After sitting for a few minutes it restarts. I replaced spark plug, coil, air filter. Tried premium gas, riding w/ gas cap open. Most likely to stall when idling. Earlier in bike's life (now 40k km) it would only stall like this only a couple times/yr. Now stalls on very ride. I live in hi-altitude Colorado.

Denver, Evergreen or higher? The bike always been in that area? Carb, right? Ever been jetted for high elevation?

Thanks for reply. The bike has worked near flawlessly for several yrs. here in Colo. (e.g., a tune-up was done locally) so that isn't different.
Just frustrating that the problem stops the bike, but then after a few minutes of sitting the bike restarts w/ no problem.

Does it have a bystarter?

When was the last last valve check done?

I would check to make sure that a good shot of fuel is pumping from the fuel pump to the motor when you crank it over. To check, detach the hose after the fuel pump and try cranking it over. You should get a nice stream of gas shooting out. You can also look at the inline fuel filter to see if there's any gas in it. I had a similar problem with my 2006 People 250 shortly after I got it. It turned out to be a faulty fuel pump. Been fine ever since.

Yes, the bike has an auto by-starter. Will now replace it.
Valves were adjusted last 5 yrs ago (25k miles ago).
Again, the bike starts fine, runs about 6 miles (15 minutes) and then dies at a stop sign - when idling. It will not re-start immediately. After sitting for 5 minutes bike starts right up. This sequence has happened 8 times in a row!
thanks a million Crossbolt, Jeeves & Scooterlar.

Yeah, well, Martin, you better tell us what fixes it! Or we will ride to Denver and hunt you down! Been lookin'for an excuse to ride to Denver....

This MAY be the problem:
The fuel filter is under the floorboard. It's probably plugged. It won't necessarily look plugged but probably is. Bystarters do nothing to help start hot engines. They richen the fuel until the wax inside them melts and then they are out of the fueling loop.

I mentioned the bystarter because when they fail they usually bring everything to a halt. Did not know the fuel filter was under the floor board. That could produce these symptoms maybe. Seems temperature related.

An update: Still no luck fixing the delayed stalling problem.
Replaced the bystarter, coil, spark plug, air filter, cleaned the idle jets in the carb. No luck. Tried premium gas, riding w/ the gas cap off... no luck.
Next we are replacing the float bowl.
Frustrating in that after 6 miles riding, the bike will stall out - sometimes at the same street corner! After sitting 5 minutes, it starts right up. Weather isn't a factor.
I haven't heard the fan run in this year. Could this be a problem?

Bad part is the stator (Pulsar coil). This was isolated after 3 hrs by ace mechanic (Mobile Wrench). When bike was hot, spark was erratic. Discovered that even with faulty stator the bike would go indefinitely ?? (i.e., no dying) if the lower met box cover was removed (cooling the faulty part better). Bummer is parts & labor here will be another $365..
Thanks everyone for your help.

Thanks for the final report as much as it really sucks for you. Never even considered a failing ignition. Cannot even think of a test to find such a problem. It would have to be something quick so the rider see what was different. Is there some kinda phone app for that?

damn stator how many miles?
-
Stator was the problem.
All fixed now. The bike has worked great for the last several thousand miles (now at 47 km, going strong.) Replacing the stator is big job - almost have to dismantle the entire bike.

47 km or 47000 km?
