Title: Ignition failure: diagnosis
Post by: mckayprod on August 13, 2017, 10:51:29 PM
So my 2008 Agility died in traffic the other day...after "the big push" to the (former) dealership I get the word that the coil and CDI are bad.  So, parts are coming and I'll be back on the road in a couple of weeks.  With 67,000km on the bike I guess I can't complain.  But, what sounds like the most likely failure scenario here...the coil shorted and took the CDI with it, or the CDI failed and torched the coil?  Or, both?  Or, another cause entirely?  Or, the root cause is still in there, waiting to smoke the new parts?  Any ideas about some tests or measurements I can make to diagnose further?

Both at the same time? Hard to believe.....

Exactly.  I plan to get the bad parts back and at least check resistance across the coil primary, but I am suspicious.  These are simple devices and should in theory last pretty much forever.
