I went out riding the other day and my cooling fan is not kicking on. I hooked 12V to the fan and it kicks on I also checked and I have 12v going to the plug. Any ideas what else it could be?
Would it be better to wire the fan to run when the key is turned to on?

check the plug for dirt, can you check plug for power while moving, check plug for loose wire male and female ends,.

Maybe a lil tricky to check while moving.

if you're moving at any speed, there is no reason for the fan to come on, air is moving thru the radiator faster than the fan can move it. Only time I ever hear my fan is after I have stopped moving
If you suspect your temperature sensor, test for continuity in a pan of water set to boil

Where is the temperature sensor located. This is my first Kymco.
need to find the problem for sure its over heating, I can hear the coolant boiling.

I think the one for the fan is in one of the radiator headers. The one for the gauge is on the engine.

Well, boys and girls, I gotta eat some words here. I was pulling a mower deck with the UXV500i cutting grass on one of our fields when the check engine light and temp light came on! The fan did not come on. Trouble shot like alive 307 to prove the fan worked. There is a "thingy" between the fan and wiring harness that looks like a relay but it is potted in epoxy. Has two wires, black and blue just like the fan, but has two of these wires in and out and one side displays like a diode, the other just open. Whatever this thing is or whatever it is supposed to do is why the fan dint come on. The plugs on the fan and harness allow bypassing this thing and I finished cutting grass. Here I eat words: there is NO temp sensor/switch in the radiator! It ain't like the scooters. Now, where can I find a wiring diagram and can any of you tell me what this thing is?

Update: the "thingy" is an EMI filter according to powersportswarehouse.com parts diagram. This keeps electronic "hash" from the fan motor getting to the system. Part # 39100-LBA7-E00. $31.07 USD.

Which model? on my 450i the fan rarely comes on when moving but is loud enough to tell when it does come on. Have you checked your coolant level? Is everything clean as far as radiator, no mud caked in between the coils? Inside of radiator clean....don't know what year your machine is, may need a flush?
That small radiator could easily get clogged with debris as the holes are quite small. If all else fails I would hot wire the fan to a switch to be able to control it.

Not the case with me, Airshot. The EMI filter failed to conduct. Once determined, the fix was to bypass it. Cut grass yesterday and today, fan cycling as normal.

By passed the issue,
I ground the fan to the frame. comes on as soon as I turn the key on now.
No more over heating issues. 8)
