Title: Is the mxu 450i restricted?
Post by: Thunderkat6 on November 27, 2016, 07:53:19 AM
Hi all, new to the forum and thanks for reading, need some help with this one.
Ive bought a MXU450i, it was an ex demo model, 2015 with only 48 miles on it, had it delivered the other day, checked the oil, water etc before I took it out, this thing is so slow I'm wondering if it has a fault, max rpm is 6000 it will not go over, top speed on flat road is 45mph and if I go up a hill it will not pull and slows right down. Throttle screw is all the way out, no warning lights.
Is it me or are these generally very slow, I hired a MXU 300 earlier in the year and that thing was pretty quick with two of us on.
I was wondering if it had some kind of rev limiter set up on it but I know very little about them.
Thanks

I bought a leftover 2014 last year. It will do 56 mph before it hits a rev limiter in the computer. It gets there pretty fast for a 450 machine stock. Should still have warranty so have the dealer check it out!

Just came off the phone from Kymco and apparently mine was shipped with a restrictor plate inside the throttle body which they say are usually removed by the dealers, maybe they forgot about mine who knows but he reckons its still there which sounds about right as theres hardly any movement on mine, so now the task of removing this restrictor and see how well it goes with full throttle movement.

Now that you mentioned it I remember reading a post on the Arctic Cat forum about some guy trying a XC 450i, same drive train, claiming the same thing. Around mid 40 mph. Wonder if it had a restrictor plate left in too! That sounds like a super easy fix!! Please report back and let us know!

He lives in England, so it is possible.

Yes it had a restrictor in the throttle body, a little "L" shaped bracket that restricted throttle movement, easy to remove and now I have full throttle movement and it runs great.
Kymco say they are shipped with a factory fitted restrictor on them and it is the dealers who remove them, maybe its a UK thing I don't know but it appears mine was simply missed, no big deal its off now but I guess its something to remember if anyone has a similar issue.
Yes im in the UK.
