Title: 2014 Kymco Agility 50 - What is the scoop on the CDI?
Post by: CheesyRider on August 28, 2015, 02:51:49 PM
Hi all!  I'm a longtime motorcycle rider and I'm thinking about getting a new 2014 Kymco Agility 50 to share with my son.

I've been reading up about derestricting and I'm still a little confused about the CDI.  If I'm understanding things correctly, the CDI has been changed for 2014 and the cutting trick no longer works.  Is that correct?  If so can anything be done to modify the CDI?  If not, can I simply buy a CDI for a 2013 or earlier and put that one in the 2014?

I've got a 2013 & I think the CDI is also the newer style, tried 2 different derestricted aftermarkets & they just popped the fuse when I hit the start button. I can hit 50 down hill & not bump the stock limiter. + I put a 72cc BB in it. posted 50-72cc a while back that explains this in more detail. Try the other mods 1st & I don't think you'll have a problem hit the rev limiter. The restrictions I found where in the intake system. The front of the air box, ground out the intake where the rubber tube clamps on. In the air box, drilled more holes in the divider. The tube between the air box & the carb, ground out where it was necked down inside. And the carb was only 16mm, ended up buying a 20mm Kehien for $43. I left the intake manifold alone but it's 18mm. Also some dealers will derestrict them before delivery, Not mine!

Thanks for the info.  So, if I understand correctly  the stock CDI on the 2013+ is already as good as a modified older unit so no CDI changes are needed.  To increase speed I can leave the CDI alone and focus on other modifications.

I beleave you are right. So all you have ton do is the flat drive boss and a 82 jet and you are all good.

As Blue said the variator boss & jet will get you the most bang for your $, if your dealer hasn't done it for you. The stock boss has a 3mm flange/shoulder on the end that doesn't let the variator/drive clutch shift out completely/push the belt to the top of the sheave. This will limit you to 30-35mph. If you can hit 40+ it's probably done.

Thanks for the info!  I ended up getting a used 2012 off of Craigslist.  The dealer wanted too much in fake fees on the new 2014 they had advertised.  The scooter is totally stock right now.  Once my son is proficient, I'll work on making it faster.
