Title: UpGrade Battery LIKE200i
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on April 13, 2014, 07:58:02 PM
Thanks to forum members for helping me sort this...
Yuasa makes a direct fit upgrade for the stock LIKE 200i battery.
The top is our stock battery (YTX9-BS)
Seen here, the other battery would be a direct fit - it is the same demensions as the stock battery.
Note the increase in power specifications for the upgrade battery but you will need to charge these batteries.

Here are 2 other YUASA batteries with much improved specifications - except with both batteries will need you to find 5mm more under the battery cover. They are 110mm tall, rather than our srock battery which is 105mm tall. There are 2 posts molded on the underside of the battery cover which hold down the battery when the cover is screwed down. It certainly looks like there is enough post there to trim 5mm off of these 2 posts, so that the 110mm tall new battery will fit under the cover. 3/16ths of an inch will need to be found under there.

All 3 batteries seem to be readily available from various sources....

Stig,
I notice the "Terminal Type" changes from "5" to "11" on the more powerful ones. Is that a non issue?

Terminal style "11" is brass plated to improve conductivity.....otherwise is exactly the same as style #5.
Both have the option of front connections if top space is at a premium.

Help me out here....why do I need to upgrade the battery?  I keep it plugged into my $19.94 Battery Tender when not in use and, thanks to the fuel injection, it starts with a touch of the button every time.

You can really feel the improved cranking power especially in the cold mornings... at least, I did...

Don, See my nephews' reply......(below)
Also....as a scooter commuter* (& did that in the bleeding snow again today!?#%middle of April for Pete's Sake!) I would not mind a more telling grunt when I push the button.....because sometimes I do not go straight home, even if it is snowing....and when I'm out in the boonies I'll be happy to think I have a shiny new Yuasa with 210 CCA's, compared to 135.

*Remember: it's my scooter, or the city bus with that happy bunch of felons, or my w i f e has to drive me in her S c i o n  :-[.
You are absolutely correct in thinking that I am overthinking a non-issue.

OK...Now I get it. My Scoot stays in a fairly warm garage every night and i'm not brave enough to ride it when the temp is down to an oil thickening degree. Thanks for the info.

Wait a minute here, Vivo. You have "cold" mornings in the Philippines?  ;)

Yup, in high places... no snow... just frozen vegetation... this happens when winds from Siberia visits us here... The result? no strawberries and roses for valentines...
