Joe: You don't want to buy that one with a metal beer opener. It might bash into your paint (or plastic) as you're cruising around. My Kymco dealer gave me 5 or 6 of a nice plastic Kymco key chains.

I drew up a keychain a few days ago based on photos/images of the KYMCO logo I found online, and a friend is going to mill it for me from 3mm thick brass. Brass can be polished to gold like shine, so I'm eagerly waiting for the end result! I even added some engravings with the DT300i on it, which will cost me extra since the tool change and the extra labour involved, but I don't mind. Hope you like the spoiler:

Here's a true story from 10 years ago.

My 16yo daughter flew to NY for summer VaCa w/ friends. They spent too much money, and decided to take GrayHound back. I had to go to Jacksonville to sign a form stating THEY were responsible for transporting her as she was a minor.
11:00 pm her bus arrived in St. Augustine but she did not. I called Jacksonville, and they told me her bus broke down twice, and in the transfers they "lost track" of her.
I told the operator she was wasting time with me, and to get on the phones, and F'ing Find Her!
She told me there are no outside lines for her to call out from, and I would have to wait until her "system" passed along the information.

I responded with... IF I were to tell you I have placed a bomb in your office I do believe you would find an "outside line". I suggest you use your new adrenaline rush, and the new motivation to find that line, and find my girl.

I informed her I was on my way to Jacksonville, and I better have my girls whereabouts known by the time I get there.

When I walked in to the depot I KNEW sh** was about to hit the fan. I asked for the station managers office, and yes... The sh** flew.

I told the group of nice looking fellas that unless they have my girl, the first man that approaches me will not be going straight home after his shift. Then I (quickly) injected the story I told you all. One of the head fed guys asked everyone to "stand down". I am talking Jacksonville cops/County Sherriff cops/Fl.State cops/Port authority cops/FBI cops/Homeland security cops.
They had found my daughter, and she was waiting in the managers office. Everyone went home.

The cool part is my daughter said she KNEW all the law was there cause of something I had done. She hugged me, and told me she loved me.

Moral of this is Kymco had better just give you some of their crap because it is NOTHING compared to what we all deal with every day.

I asked my friend who milled it for me if he would mill more for other people as well and he said yes. I also asked for the price and it isn't cheap. 30 Euros plus shipping. I had mine done cheaper since I have drawn/designed 95% of it, and since mine was the prototype.

Emailed my friend, the bare keychain without the engraving is 25 Euros I was told.

I agree with you, the price is a bit high. But it wasn't mass produced somewhere in China. There is only one piece made for me.
With this you can have something unique, with the possibility to tailor it to your needs, eg. engraved with your own text/logo whatever.

90.00 USD is more than fair IMHO. My buddy that runs the machine shop I use has a contract that bills out 850.00 USD an hour on his mills. To stop that for a one of key fob is quite generous.

Many of us got used to mass produced cheap Chinese stuff. This is nothing like it. I simply put this up here to show it off because I thought and still think it's absolutely amazing work. And if someone is interested I'm more than happy to direct you to my friend. I have no other motivation than just helping a friend. If you want to order one for yourselves I am more than happy to give you the email address of the person who milled mine in a PM, so you can contact him directly. I am no middle man in this story just a happy and proud keychain owner!

People have to remember that most of the less expensive, mass produced products out there are usually cast from a mold or stamped out on an industrial press to keep the cost and manufacturing time in check with profitability.
Milling parts out of solid billets is time consuming. Thus, the finished product is not usually cheap.
I've never been lucky enough to mess with one of the modern automated milling machines. I have, however, worked with an old fashioned manual milling machine a couple of times. The pre-historic ones that used a hand crank to run the piece through the mill.
An old friend of mine used to have one in his auto shop, and he let me use it to make a couple of custom parts for an old electric guitar I was hotrodding. The pieces I made were brutally simple compared to what a modern machine can do, but it was still a huge investment of time and work to produce. But to pay a shop to do it for me would have cost more than the guitar was even worth, so I just considered it a labor of love.
With the complex curves and shapes on that custom keychain, I think $90 US is probably the bargain of the century!

Dodge Ball didn't go any better. They never specified which ball to use. F final grade.

If anyone is interested in this sort of keychain, my guess is you could get them shipped to your door in your one/two favorite colors. I'd let the guy know who made mine and we could figure out a way to make the transaction (probably through ebay).

He wrapped a boat steering wheel for me, and now lots of local boaters are calling him. Cool stuff!

You could even wrap your grips to match the fob!

I know this stuff takes a great deal of time. I had some things done for me on a water jet and it came out fantastic. The guy had to program the whole project to the enth degree to make sure it was correct.
If things pick up soon I may order myself one of those. I love that polished brass. Very nice!

I installed a Vacu Flush head system for a fella that designed a web site for a fella that gave me use of his boat for the July 4th week. 9 hours of my labor turned into one guy getting his business on line, and me getting a free boat for a week. Plus the original fella can now flush his ( ) w/ no problems. It's never about the $$$.
