Title: Newbie needs help with kymco 50
Post by: Ljwilkey on July 26, 2013, 02:01:25 AM
Hi all,
I received a Kymco People 50 as scrap and hope to get it running.   Not a gear head but I can read a manual.  Can someone help me with these questions?
How do I find out what year it is?  How much does that matter when ordering parts?
What's the best place to order parts online?
Does anyone have a readable wiring diagram they can send me?  The one I found in a service manual online is very fuzzy.
Are the special tools mentioned in the repair manual mandatory or can another solution be jury-rigged?

I apologize if these questions have already been addressed.  It's my first post and I'm anxious to get started.
Thank you,
Laura

Me again.  Found a wiring diagram in a previous post.  Thanks, Oldguy!  Still looking for answers to my other questions.

Are there any stickers with the service specs anywhere on your scooter? I guess you could always email a Kymco dealer with your VIN and ask what specific model year it is.

Special factory tools are never mandatory, but the repair may be much easier with them. You can also search the People 50 subforum to see if other people have written down instructions or tips for certain repairs.

Thanks for the advice.  I hadn't thought about contacting the manufacturer.

The VIN tag shows the date...
For the ppl, the 2t parts are interchangable and the 4t parts are.
Some are universal.(ie; the cvt)
You can get piston kits/ cylinders for either the ppl, the cobra, the a.c s9... same engine... oh and the sting
