Title: GT air filter ?
Post by: boo on July 24, 2013, 04:52:05 PM
Where is the best place to buy air filters for the GT?. Good service and best price?.

According to my manual, it says to replace the air filter every 3000 miles. This is insane.
I have never heard of a vehicle maintenance schedule requiring an air filter change every 3000 miles.
Is this a misprint, or is this on the level?.

Update: Have no GT owners changed their air filters?.

De Dee, I might have misread my manual. I`ll take another look.
Would like to find a place to buy parts etc., for the GT at reasonable prices.

Upate: Reread the owners manual and service manual.
Both say to replace air filter every 3000 miles. That is insane.

De DEE, I have both service manuals. For the DT and GT.

I would like to know where you saw 12,000 mile changes?.

I don't think the mileage should be a deciding factor. 3000 miles traveled on dirt roads would leave a lot dirtier filter than 3000 miles on paved roads. As a rule of thumb on my vehicles, I use a light bulb. Hold it up on one side of the filter, and if you can see good light coming through, you're still good to go. I bought a spare filter, and check mine every so often. I'll replace it when it's dirty no matter how many miles are on it.

Mrmike, I am concerned about the maintenance schedule with warranty in mind, in case I have trouble down the read.
I do not want to give them an excuse to void the warranty.
I still think 3000 miles is insane except under extremely dirty driving conditions.

you are right , on the manual, 3,000 miles for change of oil and filter, tranny oil, and air cleaner,                      and 6,000 miles changes are  spark plugs, engine oil screen, brake fluid, coolant,.

I installed the DNA filter this past weekend, at 6000 miles.  The OEM filter could have gone another 3,000 I would estimate.  I dont see any reason the OEM filter wouldnt be ok for regular highway/city driving @ 9,000 intervals.  The DNA probably will need to be cleaned every 10,000 miles or so.

the DNA info says clean the filter once a year , or if you ride on dusty roads, clean more often,.  so 10,000 miles should cover it,
