Title: Another de-restricting thread.
Post by: Bob Ryder on July 02, 2013, 05:51:22 AM
Hello all I'm new to the forum, and kymco scooters in general.  I purchased a super 8 2t 2012 in the south east USA.  I'm currently trying to de-restrict my ride.  I've read tons on this subject but haven't found much help.

My drive boss isn't restricted, the cdi doesn't have the pink or purple wires/but yet there seems to be some kind of electronic restriction limiting rev/, I"m planning on removing the blind pipe on the exhaust to get pass that issue.

So what I'm wondering is there any one who can point me in the right direction on where to find the restrictions?  What am I over looking.

There maybe a restrictive washer in the top of the exhaust, how fast is the scooter at the moment ?

Welcome Bob Ryder...  :)

What is your current speed?

currently it does about 35 to 37 if there is enough flat road.  On hills only goes about 20 to 25.

AS for the exhaust there is no washer, but it does have the blind pipe, and the egr connection.
I plan removing the the blind pipe this weekend.

Ink your inner variator with a sharpie, then take it for a run to top speed. Does the drive belt rub all the ink off? Or is there ink left towards the outer edge of the variator ? If so, how much?

Belt appears to have full travel to the top.

Weld up the small pipes on exhaust I did this and couldn't believe the difference.then change jet to about an 88. I'm not a big fan of the carby on my 2012 super8 even with the bigger main jet so I've ordered another carb from e-bay that will bolt straight on, ill put up a new post if its a good improvement

Belt appears to have full travel to the top.

Did you mark it with ink ?

Yea I used a sharpie, the belt runs to the top.

Today I did the exhaust mods, and now it gets up to 40+ but not 45.  Holds the hills much better around 30 to 35 depending on the length and pitch of the hill.

But now I'm wondering what's the rpm range of this engine?  Currently I'm getting 7200 rpm topped out riding and on center stand.

Alss what's the best approach increasing hole shot?  Takes my bike almost a mile to top out.

Bob, you can try lightening the variator rollers, this may give you better acceleration ( but if you lighten too much it will be at the expense of top end speed)
I've put a thread up in the zx50 area that has info on carb mixture settings, you may be able to lean your mixture out a little and gain a few revs ( and more mph ) if the belt is taking all the ink from the variator, then your boss length is correct, an upgraded variator is the next logical upgrade.
For price though, try altering your mixture, be sure to fit a new spark plug though so that you can check its colour after a couple of days to make sure it's not leaned out too much

Hi bgblock at this point I'm stuck.  Can't seem to find the rpm hold back on this bike.  The exhaust mod, or just buy a nice tuned pipe will help greatly, then of course retuning the carb.  But even with that I'm still stuck at 7300 rpm.  This motor should do 9000 to 12000 from my understanding.  So I'm still looking to correct that.

As far as the weights go.  I've tried lighter ones, about a gram and a half lighter, and it took even longer to come up to speed.  This could be due to me being a light weight at 145 lbs.  Still waiting on a heavier set to arrive to test the other direction.

If anyone has any ideas on what is holding back the rpms please let me know.
