OK, I really thank you guys for agreeing that this piece is a bear to get off without breaking it - now, somebody please get me started in the right way to remove it (so I can do the valves some day in the future)
What is the first step after you remove the battery cover, the seat bucket and the 2 black screws here ?

Hmmmm? (surely I won't have to go to the Buddy forum for help?!)

I believe after you have done all that you did, it needs to be carefully pride up from the bottom near where the screws are. Then it is an up and pull out from the bottom motion to get it off. Of course the manual makes it look so easy. I will take a look tomorrow and re-post.
