Title: Cant get the petrol cap of my Kymco Hipster!
Post by: Clare on July 10, 2009, 09:00:20 AM
I'm new here so first of all hello.

As the title says I cant the petrol cap of tmy kymco hipster, this is my first bike & I've not been on it for a while and obviously I wont get far without petrol!

Other people have tried and we've oiled it up, it just seems 'stuck'

I'd really appreciate any advice or has this happened to anyone else?

thanks, clare

NOTE: Do not use a blowtorch.  :)

I'm not familiar with the model (Europe? Asia?). Does it have a release cable that's attached to the ignition switch, such as on my People 250?  If so, that cable would be my first focus.

Could be also excessive negative pressure gas build-up inside the tank. Check the overflow line for clogging.

Also, before trying to get it off I would lube it with WD-40 and apply some kind of warming agent around the cap (for example, steaming hot rags for ten minutes) in order to expand the material and allow for easier "action"....

If there is negative pressure in the tank, you could try and loosen the petcock and see what happens.
