Hello everyone. I'm opening a topic for all of you KYMCO Grand Dink 250 or KYMCO Grandvista 250 owners, so you can show off your bikes with pictures and videos, with or without tuning. Here is my Grand Dink 250cc, made in 2001, imported from Trieste, Italy. I'm the second owner, and i live in Hunedoara, Romania. The owner before me was born in 1937. My GD had some issues with the timing chain witch was rattling at idle, oil consumption because a scratched piston and cylinder, worn rear tire, dashboard backlight not working and a worn rear brake disk. I've repaired all of those issues except the brake disk. Here are some pictures of my bike:

How did you do YOU post pictures in this forum? I find it very complicated bringing it in from a photo service... Maybe it can be easier directly form the computer?

This is my 2005 GrandVista 250cc. I bought it from a couple cheap and it was not in good shape at all. it is cosmetically better now, just not perfect . However, mechanically it is very good and strong.
First picture is with the original KYMCO windshield

Next picture, if I go on vacation longer distance away, I take it with me on the trailer

This picture shows it with me and the shortened GIVI shield. FYI: I really don't like the GIVI shield, as it is a big "brake" for top speed, but in winter it is better wind/cold protection, so I live with it. It is cut-down 2 inches and I look over it; I hated to look through it. Like this it works pretty good.

The last picture proves "true GPS maximum speed" of almost 83 mph/132 km/h. The GrandVista speedometer of course lied some 95 mph. Ccrazy how Kymco can release such a bad speedometer deviation from true speed. But 83 mph for a 250cc scooter is pretty awesome! I truly like the GrandVista over other, even more powerful and more modern scooters I rode (Suzuki, Aprilia, DownTown).
That's it! Eric

Nice bike! On my bike I've got up to a maximum speed of 134 km/h one night after returning from the afternoon shift, I am 193 cm tall and around 96 kilograms.

I simply took the image URL from my facebook pictures and used the "insert image" command from the "Post reply" option in the forum.

My bike was really dirty but not muddy. I've let the dirt dry and used a dry soft rag to rub my bike clean. It was only fine dust from the road, that got mixed in melt water and rain and got splashed on the bike. I would not try pressure washing because water could get in the electrical system and cause issues.

2004 GV Originally used by Hendersonville NC Police. Had 1,300 miles, now over 10,000. Has 2 sets LED Lights on front and 2 additional on back. WOLO Air Horn, Electronic Deer Alert, Captains Seat, Front Fender and Rear Chrome Crash Bars (Scooterwest.com) and Reflective Tape (Findtape.com). Also has addl. 12VDC connector on dash. The round container on the rear holds my helmet and can be used to store items.

Now...How to reduce Photo Size. There are several ways. I use this one using Microsoft:
1) Save your photo to Desktop.
2) "START"
3) Find and Choose "PAINT".
4) On Paint Screen, Click Upper LH Corner Icon.
Open your Photo from Desktop into paint.
5) Now "Resize". I usually do Percentage 25 or 30%.
6) Hit OK.
7) Hit Icon in Upr. LH corner of Paint Screen again "SAVE"
8) Exit Paint and check Desktop for you new Photo.
(If, when posting your reply it says photo is still to large, go thru
PAINT Process again and reduce size again.

Nice looking police bike! I also like the seat.

Another option is to use Adobe Photoshop: Open photo in adobe photoshop, clic up on "image", select "image size" in the size boxes you can reduce or increase the resolution of any image, any size you want, click OK.

Is this GPS verified? Or Kymco Speedometer?
-
The speedometer of the bike shown that speed when i was flat out on the regional highway. I do not own a GPS device. I was going with that speed of 134 km/h in a zone where the maximum speed was 50 km/h ;) luckily the road was almost free meeting one or 2 cars.
-
Unfortunately this is only "indicated" speed, true speed is at least 10% less on GrandVistas. You can check/calculate the seconds on a road where you have exact distance markers (e.g. 1 KM in your case) and you record time for best more than just one KM at constant speed. Distance divided by time is speed (calculate up to hours). The percent difference is "linear", meaning at 134 km/h you probably drove about 120 km/h. I believe you will be surprised how inaccurate the G/V speedometer is. The odometer however on mine is "slow". meaning it shows less miles traveled than actual, also checked by GPS.

WOW! Police scooters in NC?! I live in Hickory NC... Never heard of Police using scooters in our State. So with 1,300 miles the must not have used them very much. Are you living near Hendersonville? Do you know more how they were used? For parking tickets? Sure not for regular patrol.

I don't trust GPS devices, I could compare the speed by asking a police man to take his radar gun and let me have a go on the road and measure my speed or driving side by side with another car and checking the speed that way. Maybe the Km's are different in Taiwan.
-
A GPS device over a longer period of distance its very accurate (3 meter accuracy on mine with 7 Satellites!!) m Police radar is of course good too, but a "car" comparison is no good. They all show too much for actual speed traveled, especially cars in Europe are usually showing 4-6% too much that what is real.

It used to look like this in 2009
(https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/190745_189831307722805_4489576_n.jpg)
Then like this (still 2009)

And now it looks like this

Nice new paint job! It looks really great!

Love the troll face sticker haha

Thanks! I've printed-it myself on a piece of paper.

I have never had the fairing (bodywork) off. Where did you start to take it off? I need to replace the horn, and need to take the front off.
-
first you unscrew all the screws on the interior side (pay attention, there may be 1 or 2 screws under the rubber mat). afterwards, you unscrew the windshield (4 or 5 bolts there). afterwards, under the dashboard, you should see 2 bolts holding the headlight. afterwards you just pull the front gently. you will need somebody to help you unplug the blinker cables and that's it.
-
Thank you for your advise.

Yep, they used them...Check their Web Page and you'll find the same picture I posted on their Web Page. I don't know if they were used for any high speed chases or bank robberies, but they were used. I've had mine for about 4 years now. The PD replaced these scooters with BMW Cycles. They sold these BMW's on Gov. Deals last year. They may now be walking, I don't know. I only believe what I read on the internet because you can always be assured it's true. Signed: Urbestfriend

Showing off two identical 2005 GrandVistas, left is mine, the other one is the one of my friend. Both have about 13,000-14,000 miles (22000 km) on the odometer right now.
Here we are at rear tire change on both scooters that get new Michelin Pilot rear tires.....

"We" have added a white 2008 GrandVista with just about 1,600 miles (2600km) on it that is planned for one of our ladies to ride. However, not 100% sure about that, we will first "test the women" how they like riding the GV before we decide it will be handed over.

I like the twin blue scooters! And also the white one is beautiful.

I seldom see a white GV, a unique color for a GV...

A good way to take a break from riding... ;)

I bought my 2005 GV250 2.5 years ago on craigslist for $2000 with 2600 miles. Now it has 13K on it. I laid it down over a year ago at night after the city left sand on my street. The mirrors have broken on both sides and been repaired several times. The exhaust developed a bad vibration and cracked in two places due to an improperly welded part at the factory that I call the "hot dog". It took 3 surgeries with the welder to repair it. New it is about $280 and there is only one aftermarket exhaust that I could find and it costs $300. Other stuff: replaced all fluids, new belt, and dr pulley slider weights. Overall, it has been a great scoot.

Ah, another white GV250.

Those are nice looking bikes, I have to change the variator belt because it's under the 25mm service limit. Also the roller weights, the variator guides, and one rocker arm from the exhaust valve (I've damaged the threads by over tightening-it) How much torque does a rocker arm adjusting nut need for proper tightening?

... one rocker arm from the exhaust valve (I've damaged the threads by over tightening-it) How much torque does a rocker arm adjusting nut need for proper tightening?
It looks like 24N-m for the "Cylinder Head Cap Nut". Which appears to hold down the rocker arms. Another method before dissembling wold be to tighten with a torque wrench set very low and slowly increase the pressure until the nut moves and you hear a click indicating about how much torque was used to tighten a nut. Another method would be to record the size and thread pitch etc and look up the range of tension / torque for that size nut / bolt. You could also email Kymco tech and see what they say and / or look at any typical 250cc GY6 motor to get an idea since they are all basically the same thing. Finally, contact an after-market motor kit maker for torque details.
-
Found out that the rocker arm adjusting nut needs a torque of 8,8 Nm.
