I am looking for a scooter to take on a hitch rack on a motorhome. I plan on using it for two people on short, (5-10 mile) trips to town. I am looking at a 2012 Super 8, 2012 Like 200i or a used, 2009 Grand Vista 250 with 1700 miles. Will the 150/200 be ok for two people up to 55 mph or should I seriouly consider the 250 Grand Vista. Price used is very close to price new considering set up and tax. Thanks for the info.
This is my first scooter but I have previously owned an 1100 Yamaha.

Well if you plane on puting a scoot on a hitch like that I would go with a smaller one stay with a 150 or 200. Just a safty thing I think...........

Hard to argue with that........but.
If you plan to ride two-up there's no replacement for displacement.
It's never easy !

5-10 mile trips? A 150cc will do.. I do 2-up everyday for 60 miles on my Super 8 125cc.... also, a Grand Vista has a big body...

:) I bought a 2012 Like 200i in May 2012 and I now have 3000 miles on it. It pulls two up very well and is easy to load on my hitch mount on the motor home. Be especially careful to do a thorough tie down as I had my scooter come part way off on an uphill section of washboard dirt road in a State Park. I think you will enjoy the scooter very much. JOB.

Load capacity of the Rear Rack is Primary. As to size, providing cost is fairly equivalent for all 2 or 3 choices. I would consider
yearly cost of insurance and license. If the bike cost is reasonabily the same, go for the bigger engine.

I have seen bike racks rated at 400 lb. and some at 600 lbs. mine is a 400 lb. one and I did a 10,000 km. trip to the west coast and back, with a 300i downtown on the back of a toyota sienna van , with air bags on the rear springs to keep it level,. I hardly noticed it was there,. except when I parked the van, I back in , got to watch the curbs if they are high, you would have no problems with a truck you are much higher,.

I took my wife and we checked out the Super 8 and Like for fit with two up. The salesman said for 5-10 mile trips it would be ok. Most of the places we would be at are hilly. I want to be able to cruise at about 5omph to keep up with traffic. Tomorrow I am driving 2 hours to see a 09 Grand Vista 250. Pix look great, 1700 miles and negotiated sell price of $2500. My rack is rated at 600lbs and RV Class A motorhome has tounge rating of 500lbs. I should be arround 470lbs when loaded on rack. I am thinking the GV would be more comfortable and have a greater usage if we want. Does anyone see a big negative to go with 250 over 150? Thanks, Joe.

IMO if transporting the bigger scoot is not an issue I'd buy the 250. I've done two up with hills on my people 200 and yeah it can be done.
That said it starts out with just doing quick trips then the urge to go fartur, faster comes. I've never heard someone complain about to much power.

IMO I'd go with the smaller scoot and be fine with doing 45-50 MPH.
But the reality of it is the smaller scoot won't get you the 55 MPH your looking for. The bigger scoot will do the 55 and 65 without a problem. If you can afford the bigger go big assuming the space weight is not a problem.
I'm not sure why you'd need 55MPH on 5-10 mile runs but you know bette then me what you'll be doing, maybe highway travle is needed, if so you want the bigger for sure. My people's 200 (163cc) tops out about 57 with 1 up.
