Title: Kymco People 50 S top speed with 72cc kit!?!?
Post by: vermi on January 12, 2013, 03:45:07 PM
I just want to know if the performance of my Kymco People 50 S (4 strokes) is ok?

I have:

72cc kit
Malossi Variator (6g rollers)
Jet #90 in the original carburator
Original CDI but look modified
Original pressure spring in the clutch
Original head valve and cam
Original air box
Original Exhaust

My top speed is aroud 44 Mph (70 km\h) with a good torque at the accedleration :-\.
When it was in 49cc version, my top speed was 47~50 Mph Without wind!!! :o >:(

I would be very happy if my 72cc kit hit the 50 mph, what can i do????

I don't want to change the air box and exhasut, here police watch all modification!!! :-*

Thank's!

Well that's why you have to choose your BBK carefully. This is a good kit;
http://www.revolution70.nl/xtc/product_info.php/info/p145_Cylinder-R70-90cc-Racing---kop---nokkenas-4t.html (http://www.revolution70.nl/xtc/product_info.php/info/p145_Cylinder-R70-90cc-Racing---kop---nokkenas-4t.html)

They say heavier rollers are needed with a BBK (0.5 - 1.0 gms heavier) and larger jet for the carb.
And watch out for klephevelbrug!

check your driven pulleys...they are probably restricted...replace them, if so...

...also will want a bit longer belt...maybe...

What is the effect of a longer belt, taller initial gear and taller final gear?

Any idea how much you would want to add? The belt on my scoot seems
to be special to my model, there are some close in size, I wondered if a
different size might work and add performance too?

Stock is 799 x 19.2 - 28

Looks like I could get   805 x 18 -  28    or    818  x  19  -  28

..yup, longer belts allow for higher top speeds, but usually require further cvt tweaking to "dial them in"..

..as far as how much longer...on my 50cc scoots, the stock bando is roughly equal to a Gates 729-18-28..

..on my s9, with a tech pipe, malossi air filter and derestricted driven pulleys, a Gates 732-18.5-28 greatly increases peformance overall..

..belts sizes are difficult to just "call out", because they vary in actual length, width from brand to brand..

..generally, do not run a narrower than OEM belt...

Thanks for the info. I realize the pulley's have to allow for the extra and
not all belts are the dimensions they say they are. And 2mm less width
is considered worn out so narrower is not good. I have a Yager and have
been trying to get a little more top out of it, a slightly longer belt might
work!

..yup, but it will likely require some different (lighter) rollers, and possibly clutch fly springs (stiffer) to keep that initial take-off...

..might not require any change...

           ;D

..and, from my experience, Gates Premium and Bando belts are hard to beat....

I'm bumming. Gates makes a boost belt for my bike but you cannot buy them in the US.
I saw one for sale in Austrailia...

...nina wore the boost belt out in pretty short order...

..awesome at first!!..but the boost is a softer compound...

..doesnt hold up over time...

...oh,yaeh!!...

..gates "boost" gives instant awesome difference in performance!!!...

..i can testify to that!!!..no longevity tho...

..actually, now that i think about it, the gates 732-18.5-28 belts i run aren't the "premium", but "standard"...

..i swear by gates on my scoots...

..the area that had print on it separated...

..in the first (new belt) pic, note the "seam" to the left of the GATES logo...started there..

Your scooter sounds slow.
Remove the outer variator and belt from the front.

Using a permanent ink pen, ink the inner variator from the centre outwards.
Reassemble the bike. Go for a ride and max the bike out.

Come home, dismantle again.
Is there any ink left on the inner variator?

If yes, remove the boss from the centre of the variator and remove 1mm from the end of it with a bench grinder.
Reassemble and test ride.
Repeat this until all the ink is removed from the inner variator.

Shortening the boss increases the front gearing. See my thread in zx50 area.

Expect a 10mph gain using this method
