My one and only REAL new years resolution is to treat my Kymco a little better this year. Since i got my other scoot ive been neglecting little Kimmie a bit and im think he must be feeling a bit left out. Rarely wash it much apart from a blast with a jetwash 3/4 times a year, been neglecting tinkering and tuning it, and generally just treating it as my workhorse this last year. In the 2-3 years ive owned him he has never really let me down and always starts when i need it, he takes me to work every day thro rain, wind, sleet and the cold, so i think he desreves to have some more attention for his loyalty and service. Just started him up after hes sat out in the cold and wet for 2 wks and he fired right up :)

Was going to go back to work tomorrow after the winter hols so just made sure he fired up ok rather than try fix it at 6:30am in the dark. Decided against work for now tho, i got better stuff to do so i'll have an extra few days and go back on Monday instead ;D

Glad i live in Scotland, 6wks paid hols/year plus another couple of paid weeks off in statutory annual holidays every year. I only work 4.5 days a week anyway, if i wanted i could use all my holidays for Fridays and almost get thro a whole year on a 4 day week with full pay and believe me i have thought about doing that :D

yup, similar here... two week paid holidays per year... if the day happen to fall on a thursday, government can move it to friday or if it falls on a tuesday, can be moved on a monday... that way, we'll have a long weekend.... also all companies are required by law to give an additional full months pay at the end of the year.... 13th month pay... plus all bonuses...tax free...

Min. 20 working days off/year (I have 36 currently). Additional 5 days paid leave for wedding, death in the family or education.
Paid in full for sick leave etc, can last for years, ends with premature retirement. First 6 weeks are paid by employer and then the rest by the national health insurance.
Maternity leave up to 3 years, 1 year paid.
However, I do not think we will be able to keep up the pace, we have more than 2 retired person per one working here...

Depends on your countrys economy and taxation rates. Personally i am happy to pay more tax for more benefits, better than privatising everything and then we all pay even more for a worse service.
We also get a full free university education too btw, and we have at least 1-2 of the top-ten rated universities in the world.

Well I guess I'm moving to Scotland then. I make change compared to most 2 weeks vacation. 3 sick days paid. Last years bonus was 25 dollars. Can't afford health insurance. Off to Scotland!

Its not fantastic by any means here but it has its benefits compared to other places. Lived abroad for a while when i 1st got married, they had private health insurance in that place, i hated it. Luckily we got it for free thro my job there but i would hate to have to pay it myself, i prefer our nationalised system. Too many folks cant afford to buy private cover so go without, to me thats a sh** situation when you live in what is supposedly "the greatest nation on earth" . Thought Obama had sorted out your mess with his Obamacare?

Oh Ya Obama care is great! You pay more and get less. It's all about the money. The government
gets money from everyone, the hospitals pay $5 billion, the insurance companies pay $20 billion,
we pay $1 billion and if you can't afford insurance you pay the government $2000 at the end of the
year. I lost my job so should get free coverage right? No! You have to make less than the poverty
level and have less than $2000 in "resources". I'm amazed they got that to pass....

See Randy thats the type of thing that makes me glad we dont operate like you guys. I know socialised anything is evil to many over there but it really makes the most sense. The way a country treats its needy, ill, elderly and vulnerable says a lot about the people who live there, least it does to me. Funny how they say they cant afford these things and yet they can find Trillions of $'s in the blink of an eye for bombs and wars :-\
I just checked my last payslip, i pay around 7%-8% of my wage into our National scheme, for that i get free doctor/hospital/specialist/physio/medical treatment with free drugs/prescriptions and free treatment when i need it, heavily subsidised dental xare, free personal care when im old, a state paid pension, free eyecare and glasses, plus other things i just cant think of right now. I have no problem paying that at all off my wage, its saved my life more than once over the years and my wife is currently undergimg expensive treatmemt for an ongoing problem, shes also going for major surgery in March, all free. I doubt i could afford to buy the same coverage thro ANY private scheme.
The US looks pretty divided since Clinton left office, half of you want one thing and the other half want the opposite :-\

Im happy living in 'Merica, with my job I have 7 weeks PTO. In Aus I had a "wonderful" 4 weeks PTO which just doesnt compare since you have to fight tooth and nail to get the days you want. Soo many others are trying to take off during that magic spring or fall time.
One word about PTo in ANY country, you have to WORK in order to receive it. So in any country you live in with a good job, not a casual employee, you WILL get PTO.

We dont really have casual jobs here now, unless your an illegal living under the radar. Every employer has to comply with our labour laws and anyone working has rights so we cant get fcuked over so easily as it was in the pre 70's. Its not like you can just fire someone here without having good reason and you must give them a chance to improve or buck up 1st. Unless its flr gross misconduct.

As a foreigner, I really do wish more US citizens would get out and go live abroad so they can be thankful when they return. To see so many complain so much is pitiful. At any time I could move to any continent and still have the same job, I make more here, save more here, live healthier, have access to the best hospitals in the WORLD, never have to worry about if my water is bad, if my electric will work properly, if the streets will be cleaned, if the public official will take away all my rights, and dont have to worry about the many things that is wrong with the rest of the worlds countries.
Im happy to be living in the United States of America. I say if youre not happy be proactive and move. Just make sure you have a skill that another country is going to want.

I like some of Scotlands work laws, some not all mind you. Its actually a beautiful country to visit but it has its downsides. Were going to the UK in March on a plant check and Edinburg is a possible site for a new plant, well out side of Edinburg in between a loch and a small township.

Edinburgh is a nice looking city, im from the other coast, we kinda got a rivalry going that we're better than them. We call them posh twats, they call us dirty Weegies lol. Depending on how the independence referendum goes in 2014 we may be our own nation by then and not part of the UK (hopefully).
I guess its what youre used to wherever you live. I like some things about the USA but it seems, at least from the outside looking in, that its all about making money or being a success over there? Money never motivates me much, neither does being a huge success, im happier doing what i want and have no interest in being "successfull" as such. I'd make a crap business man ;D
But yeah, youre right in that if youre not happy in a job, a home, or a country then stop complaining and do something about it. If you cant do anything about it then move, i would in that situation.

So what happens if you do get sick or injured and cant work for say a year or something? Would you not get any pay at all? What are you supposed to live on and pay your bills with? I get full pay if im sick but not all companies here do that, at least half dont, prob more,bt even they have to pay you Statutory sick pay if your off sick. Its a government. Minimum set level that they all need to give you but its government funded thro our taxes.
16 days vacation? Is that 16 working days? So if you work 5 days/wk you get 3 wks and a day off?
On the plus side its still better than China or Japan, they work like 28 hr days 9 days a week with -16 vacation days and they even get to work public holidays too :P

That's why after I graduated from College..worked... took post graduate studies, lots of seminars, diploma courses, read a lot of books, joined lots of professional organizations... hopped from one Company to another and applying for a higher level position everytime which is a short-cut instead of waiting to be promoted in one Company.... reaped my rewards... and now, just waiting for retirement... it's just a matter of attitude... I have to do what I have to do... I was in control of everything up to now... never regretted anything...
