Title: Quick electrical Question: How many milliamps?
Post by: yatezy9 on December 21, 2012, 06:32:31 AM
Agility 125 08' 13000km
I've had a problem with a faulty fuel gauge sender unit. Does anyone know how many milliamps the sender unit draws?
I got another one from the wreckers and just installed it.
Got the following current drain when ignition is in on position:
Sender unit 35mA
winker relay 10mA
DC CDI box   5mA
Tot ~50mA
Ammeter in series with battery.
ignition in off position gives 0 milliamps.

Is this right or have i got a leak somewhere?

I checked the resistance on the fuel tank sender unit upper and lower and get similar values to the manual, but there is no write up on how to check the instrument panel fuel gauge, it goes up and down like it should so i spose i should be happy.

R = 604 ohms, V = 12V, I = ?
A quick calculation using V = IR , V / R = I
I = 12 / 604 = ~ 0.02Amps or 20 milliamps
But that dosnt include the resistance of the gauge and wires, only the sender. so 35 milliamps is probably ok for an empty tank.

...according to the manual, its pretty close..

..if i should ask, ....what prompted the question??

I read in another forum that if ur over 35mA something is leaking so thought i should check, especially since im uncertain of the instrument panel gauge.
But sounds like its all good.

Hey Word!
What's with the Ying and Yang stuff? Don't tell me you're nurturing your "inner child"?auditory or visual hallucinations That would be so cool man. The Zombie could come back and teach us how to find our "inner grown-up", and 08 could teach us about our "inner rage", auditory or visual hallucinations and Vivo could help us about our inner "kindness to mankind".auditory or visual hallucinations And I could assist everyone in finding their "inner idiot". By the way I sure miss the Blue Monkey; especially those eyes! I still believe they had this hypnotic effect on me; psychotic symptoms such as auditory or visual hallucinations?auditory or visual hallucinations? By the way had the cameras all set up to photograph the end of the world Friday morning and then it dawned on me; no one would be around to see them! auditory or visual hallucinations

United States of whatever.

I had a fault with my sender unit, or so I thought. Turns out that the float had become saturated, it sank in the fuel showing empty all the time. I got hold of a new float and using some telephone jumper wire, managed to attach the new float to the sender arm.

If yours is playing up, remove it, re connect and turn the ignition on, move the float with your hand and see if the gauge works, if it does its the float at fault.

I saw a Ying Yang scooter when I was in China, didn't get a picture, Dang!

PS If you get 0 milliamps with the key off you have no leakage!
