Title: Oil filter
Post by: TroutBum on December 06, 2012, 07:50:28 AM
I don't seem to find an oil filter for the Like 200i. Where is it located? Or is it the wire mesh type vs a spin on filter?

Well the manual says to change it but then never shows you how.
It's just like the Yager and is circled here in the pic from the manual;

My local shop told me there was no traditional filter on the Like, only the metal mesh filter. And stressed the importance of changing every 1k miles. Which I do. But... seriously, there's an ACTUAL filter obscured by a cover?  :o

Hmm it looks like the Like 200i doesn't have it the People 200i does have it.
Sorry if I lead you astray... Most likely the water cooled bikes have a filter and
the air cooled don't!

I looked and looked, but could not find a cover like the one in the picture above. All I could find is a metal mesh filter like your shop stated. I wonder why the Like 200i doesn't use a conventional filter? So I will need to be diligent about oil changes. According to the manual it looks like they recommend changing the oil every 1200 miles.

Just had mine serviced at the dealers. There is no filter on the 200i just a screen to clean. Service intervals are every 6 months or 3750 miles or 6000 KM.

The owners manuals shows service at 300, 600, 1,800 and every 1,200 miles after that. My dealer service dept. tells me to have it serviced every 3,000 miles. Since it is only a wire mesh for a filter, I'll change the oil every 1,200 miles as a quart of oil is cheap (and cheap insurance).

The figures I gave are from my owners manual but its a UK scoot. Strange that they are not the same. If you change the oil every 1200 miles that engine will run forever.

Hmm maybe 600 km not 6000! There is no filter. At least on the bikes with a filter they
spec 2000 km or 1200 miles. I think because the cheapo HiPro filter is only guaranteed
for 1200 miles.

The owners manual for the Like 200i says 2000 km but for the People GT 200i it says 5000 km.

Hmm My Yager is the odd man out as it is similar to the People GT 200i but requires 2000 km...

Hey you made me check my service manual. It’s definitely every 6 months or 6000 KM.

You guys are lucky! On a long trip I have to change the oil every other day!

Hmm, I thought the tiny amount of oil made it need to be changed more often?
How much does yours hold? Mine uses about 1 quart. It would be nice to be able
to go 2000 miles as then it would be about once per year for me. My new Honda
car tells me when I need to change it and it goes 6000 - 7000 miles before it
complains...

My Yager oper. manual indicates to change oil & filter (there is a real filter) @1200 miles which is about 2000km.  When I change the filter which is each time I change the oil, I drop in 1 qt.  On the dipstick it is just about perfect.  I could not find it in the service manual.

The owner’s manual says the engine oil capacity is 0.95 quart or 0.9 litres.
I run a Suzuki Jimny 4x4 car and that has an oil change every 9000 miles.
I leave it for the shop to look after just for the first 2 years to keep the warranty valid
