Title: Starter 'whir' bit no engine crank

The scoot only did this once.

On the 2nd try the scoot turned over and started right up.

I'm thinking the starter solenoid/gear didn't engage the flywheel teeth.

I'll take it a part, clean & lube it. I'll Inspect the gears, hopefully no missing teeth.

I don't expect this to be much of a problem - but if you've done this before and have tips then I'm all ears.

You'll find the starter has a gear machined into it's shaft so is direct drive.


There is a one way clutch on a big gear in there that allows the starter to
push while turning over but release after the motor is running faster than
 the starter.

They have a similar one on the BMW K75 I am currently working on. On
the BMW they say if you use dino oil the one way clutch gets sticky and
you have to split the cases to fix it so recommend synthetic
(or semi-synthetic) as it keeps it cleaner...

Happened to me once... just tapped the starter with the plastic handle of a screw driver and was ok again.

I agree with Vivo.....
 I'd wait for it to happen more often before I'd work on it.

 It's behind the stator. I wouldn't mess with it either. Ignore it until it gets worst or
add something slippery to the oil (synthetic, slick50, duralube, Moly etc.).

I've heard that Mobile 1 is not as good as it used to be. Ever since the FED's allowed "cracked" dino
to be sold as synthetic everyone's doing that as it costs $0.50 per quart vs $2.00 per quart. So it's
difficult to get "real" synthetic. I think Royal Purple and Amisol still (real full synthetic) are but they
might be doing what Motul is and adding base 3 stock (dino) to the ester stuff.

..well,if you've several miles on your scoot, a good starter bendix (and CVT) cleaning might be in order...


..roller, belt and clutch dust accumulates...


..SOMETHING kept the bendix from fully extending to the drive face...


..i use Liquid Wrench Dry Lube spray to keep my bendix working nice and smooth...
