Title: Saddle Bags ?
Post by: Zimmerman on November 06, 2012, 09:52:50 PM
Do you guys use saddle bags on your Scooters ?

If so what ones do you like ?

They're not something that I would use often, but during the summer I'll be taking a few soother trips.
They could be as long as a week, so the extra storage would be handy.

Here's one type:

Looks like a good idea. I have some old bicycle panniers that I could rig up like this.  That dude sure needed a lot of TP! :D

Walmart has these. I was thinking of getting a set.

Not sure if they'll be too wide on the scooter?

Pimp,

I know - I was laughing my butt off about the toilet paper!

I mean, ok, toilet paper is just a fact of life, etc - but if I was making a movie I don't think I would have it play a prominate roll. (Pun intended!)

Anyway . . . I'll try to act my age rather than my shoe size.

The seat cover - saddle bags.  I did like them.  I liked that they could roll up.  I liked the seat cover because I don't like my Yager seat.  That cover would allow me to experiment by putting foam under the cover.

On the other hand - I don't like the cover because I can't just remove the whole saddle bag assembly and take it inside with me.  There are other saddle bags that just have two straps that you lock under the seat.  That system allows you to remove the whole thing in seconds.

This really isn't that big a deal, as I would probably have bags inside the saddle bags.

Randy,

Those bags could work - I'd want to see them in person @ my local StuffMart.

I have a "luggage carrier" on the back of my peoples 200 which I have a bag velgrowed to the rack. I'd say it's about 1.5 cubic ft of space at best but it holds all I've ever needed so far.

Check out these saddlebags-

http://www.airhead.com/scooterlogic/SLSB1.html (http://www.airhead.com/scooterlogic/SLSB1.html)

$43.00 in Black/ $10 in Purple.

If you can handle purple, they are a great deal!

Pimp,

Good find on the purple bags for $10 !

I bought a set for my wife.
We'll see how we like them.

I'm not sure which saddlebags I'll go with for myself.

They look good but I can't the purple.  Not sure I want saddle bags or top box so I have nothing.

Yep, I'm not cool enough to get away with the Purple - but they're great for my wife.

Vintage would be good - have you seen any?

Post a link.

If your scoot has a narrow rear end and hard bags from the manufacturer they look good.
A wide rear and wide bags looks silly. The small ones aren't really worth much though I
had some cheapo leather ones on a Virago 250 once and they held anything I wanted to
put in them.

The purple are cheap but they'd clash with my bike I'm afraid. I picked up those leather
ones on the bargain table at a local dealer for $50. That's why we ride to visit bike dealers!

The purple will look pretty good on my wife's black People 150.

I don't know about the light blue Yager - maybe black.

I would like the functionality of saddles bags, in addition to all the other storage.
I'd like to take some long long trips - if I do the extra space will be handy.

I agree they would be handy. For $10 just to have for the occasional
need to carry more stuff. I think you can get some spray on dye to
make them black. Not sure how it would work as they are probably
nylon of some sort...

Any updates on the saddlebag selection? I would like to get a set before the upcoming Rally season.

Go to the Army surplus store and get some bullet-proof ones.

Pimpy,

I thought about that and like the look. I think it s impractical on my People to mount a set. I toyed with it for a while.....
