Title: Large JC Whitney Top Box $34!
Post by: MotoRandy123 on October 25, 2012, 09:12:48 PM
My old JC Whitney top box bit the dust today after many years of faithful
service. I looked on their site and found it on sale for $34! It was $47 after
shipping and handling but still a deal!

I've got the same one or very similar. The red lens that goes across the back doesn't work well as a reflector, but you can remove it easily (2 small screws on the inside) and add your own led's behind the lens. I got 3 strips from www.superbrightleds.com (http://www.superbrightleds.com) that are just the right size. I wired the center to the running lights and the top/bottom strips to the brake lights. They make you much more visible to drivers behind you.

Awesome deal!

I've thought about getting a trunk. I just think they're ugly. Just my opinion... To each their own.

I need a trunk!  Easy to install on a Kymco agility 125?
Thanks for posting!

Peters: I agree. A trunk doesn't do any favors for a scoot looks wise, but they serve their purpose. I have one on my GT300i & my Super 8 150 & I wouldn't do it otherwise.

Kenny: The Agility has a nice rack. I'm sure it's a very easy mod.

I agree they don't always look that great but max utility! Here's a pic of this one
on my Yager:

I had this box on all different bikes over the years starting on a Super Sherpa. The reason I have to
get a new one is I used the stock plate on the Yager and drove 10 miles and it fell off just after I stopped!
That broke the latch and one hinge but it was 6 - 8 years old so I guess that was a good run. The last bike I
used it on I used a GIVI rack as it looked better than the JCW mounting plate. I modified it to make it fit the
GIVI so maybe that made it fall off?

I plan on securing it with a bolt on the scooter so it doesn't fall off again.

I took the red plastic off and put reflective tape (like is used on 18 wheelers) under it. That helps the
reflection and doesn't need power. If you look in the picture there are black lines in the silver bar,
those are the black reflective stuff people use on saddlebags. It looks black during the day but reflects at night.

It's a universal fit, it comes with a plate that you bolt to your flat surface and then
the case latches to the plate.

This is it bolted to a Givi rack. I might have bolted to the stock one but I bought the Givi
before I got the bike and had read the stock was plastic and not so strong. It turned out to
be metal and plenty strong...
