Title: 10000 Kilometers on a People 150
Post by: skadamo on January 16, 2008, 04:13:28 AM
Have a look at this post.

Quote
My '05 Kymco People 150 just rolled over 10,000 kilometers today. Yeah, I know that's only about 6200 miles, but this thing has been rock solid. I actually have a pair of them. The other one is only a couple of hundred away from the big 10K.

Here's what I've done maintenance-wise: I change oil every couple of thousand kms (it holds 800 mL), swapped out a spark plug in each one at around 7K, and that's about it.

This is my 1st visit to the KymcoForum.
My 2002 People 150 has 24,000+ kilometers and still looks and runs like new.

I live in NYC. I purchased a scooter primarily to commute from my home in Brooklyn to work in Manhattan. I also belong to the New York Scooter Club.

Almost at 30,000 Km. Engine needs rebuild.

Just curious about what symptoms an engine needing a rebuild exhibits for these Kymcos. ex. oil consumption, smoking at startup, loss of low end power, noises??   Thanks for any replies.

That is a good run out of such a small engine.

..it's not smoking at all, but i seem to be losing top end and take-off power...cant get the revs, even with light rollers...

..i just adjusted my valves not long ago, but i'm going to check them first thing tomorrow...

..that's what it acts like...but if the valves check out, then i'm afriad i'm losing compression...

..where's the best place to get a compression tester??

I got a set the same as Shaka's, it seems ok for $20. I think he got his from Harbour Freight. You have looked after your engine well, you might get it back with a set of rings.

It sounds like the hardened surfaces on the valves, and seats are starting to wear. If you go for a new head, you will have a good spare to mod... Just a thought. The seats can also pound themselves into the aluminum head over time

..i think it's probably time for a change....

..gonna get rid of that stock exhaust while i'm at it...
