Today I made the change of engine oil and transmission in my GTI Kymco People 300 in their first 600 miles, in truth was easier than I thought, and much cheaper to take it to the dealer. I hope the photos will serve as a reference.

I bought the autozone engine oil, but could not find the 5W-50 full synthetic 4-stroke engine oil, but the manual also recommends 10W-40 full synthetic 4-stroke engine oil.

Question about replacing the drain bolt after draining the old oil. When you replace that drain bolt (before adding new oil), do you have to use a torque wrench to replace that bolt?
Obviously, I don't know anything about working on scooters so pls bear with me.

I use a torque wrench because its easy to strip the threads out in aluminum when over tightening a bolt.

Ken: Nice job with the step-by-step pics! I purchased the same brand filter last week. I think you're using synthetic a tad early myself. I would have like to seen you use synthetic after 1500+ miles or so.
I'm sure you'll be fine.

Teemon, I use an allen wrench to loosen the drain bolt, no torque wrench, but to loosen the oil filter cap, I Use a torque wrench, which must be used carefully, because if you squeeze it too can damage the thread or the filter plug. I recommend you use an allen wrench, but in my case I did not have one of that size and so Use a torque wrench carefully, that's it, is not difficult.

But in the other manual I found online, says to use premium quality oil, but I follow the instructions of my original manual. Please see the attachment. ???

Ken: You'll be fine. Just @ 600 miles, the feel the engine still needs some more breaking-in yet. I would think most people would agree @ 1500+ miles is the best time to use synthetic oil. I have own 5 scooters (all brand new) & that's what I have done for all of them. Again...No worries. Nice job on the pics again!

One US Quart should do it. After 3/4 of that quart is in the engine, use the dipstick to check the oil level and add oil accordingly. Usually should have a very little oil left in the bottle.

I dont see the second oil filter. Did you take it out and clean the metal shavings off it? You do know there are two right? BTW the repair manual is sold by amazon for kindle. So if you have a smart phone you can have the manual on your phone.

Second Filter? Where's that one located?

You can download service manual thru kymco USA for free. I sure I used a quart and then some when I serviced my scooter last Saturday. The second oil filter is behind the other drain plug. The drain plugs are beside each other.

There is a metal oil screen. And you are supposed to use a torque wrench for every thing. The service manual shows the screen to under the 17mm bolt next to the drain bolt. There is a washer there that needs to be inspected and replaced if needed. Use needle nose pliers to remove the strainer. It is a cylinder shape. It also has two o rings that need to be inspected and replaced if needed. Always lube them befor reinstall. It says to clean the screen with high flash point solvent and compressed air. The 17mm strainer cap gets torqued to 7.2 lb-ft on reinstall. Btw the oil filter cap is 7.2 as well. 5w-50 synthetic oil is suggested but 5w-40 will do ya fine.
