I just received a multivar kit in the mail and i noticed there is a black rubber ring inside the kit what is this for? Does anyone have a link for installation instructions? thanks

The ring is not needed. Just take the old one out and put the new one in, variator, weights, boss. Should have basic instructions from malossi with the kit too... Good luck!

The black ring is a variator restriction.

OK so i just finished installing the variator and i notice a big difference in speed. but i noticed a big difference in the sound its much higher pitch and the enginge is making a new beat if you get what im saying. i did not put the metal washer on or the rubber ring. anybody know what im talking about? thanks

not realy...
they put the washers in the kit as the kit will fit many modles of 50cc
it may be because the belt is prob hitting the starter bendix. as the belt rises up the varaitor the bendix gets in the way. so maybe considder taking out the starter bendix. just use the kick start(not eletric).

If its got a shorter boss that came with it the metal washer will be to space the outer nut. It should go on to the outside of tje plastic fan on the outer variator, ie put the washer on the the nut on top of it. The whine may be because the outer variator has slack to wobble.

Make sure everything is in nice and tight. Variator roller weights etc. Could just be running higher rpms ...

i feel like ive lost some acceleration. my friends stock a50 is beating me on pickup and uphill. is this normal for a racing variator?

what roleres came with it?
did you use the torque spring that came with the set?

The standart rollers are 6,5g but the rollers in the multivar kit are 6g. This will give rpm which are a little above the optimal, and since the effectband on the standart 4-stroke 50cc scooter are so narrow, you loose power if you come just a little bit above or below it. :)
The optimal rollerweight i have found are 6,25g, which gives accellerating rpm at 7200 with the standart spring, which should be the same power (30kg to fully compress) as the white malossi spring, that came with the kit. ;D

I get nowhere near 7200rpm with any weight rollers over 5.5g's, think it sits around 6100-6600 if im lucky on 6g's and thats with a stiffer torque spring, unless its downhill :D All depends on your terrain i guess ???
As for losing take off speed....thats prob down to the Malossi boss being a little shorter for more top end, its 0.5mm shorter than stock i think. Lighter rollers help, my boss is now 1.2mm shorter and 5.1g's or 5.3g's work well with that. Gives me best of both worlds, good acceleration AND still gets 44-46mph on flats, 50-52mph downhill.

Wouldnt think so. My kickstart still works fine on my shorter boss.

That makes no sense at all in my ears. The standart 6,5g rollers are made to keep rpm at 7000 or a little lower to keep fuel economy high, and then both lighter rollers and a stiffer spring would raise the accelleration rpm.
When i were trying 5,5g rollers, the rpm were too high and i came outside the effectband and lost alot of power. :)

All i know is on 6-6.5g rollers i dont get to 7000rpm. Prob would evenuallly hit 7000rpm but i dont have a long flat enough road on my commute to get this. Couple of downhils it did get to 7000-8000 but rarely if ever on flats, and thats with the stiffer spring which like you say raises the rpm.
Now with the 1500rpm spring and 5.1-5.3g rollers it stays pretty much between 6800-7300 rpm all day, even up hills.
