Hi guys! Have just replace a burned out regulator and ever since my headlight bulbs keep blowing on me. When I start the bike and rev it the lights get really bright and after 10 seconds the side light blows, the cowling cover on the front of the headlight gets hot which seems to me that the lights are burning. Any ideas on this ? Have seen mentions of changing the stator could this be the case? Really frustrating aarrggghhhhhhh.
Also the tail light has stopped working, checked the fuses in the battery area and they seem fine.

theres a regulator that sits under the gas tank also pull that out and give it a good cleaning with sandpapper. At times it well get realy dirty and the conections go weak. I did mine and things are better again.

cheers blue but the regulator is only 1 week old mate, i will have a quick look though. do you think it could be the stator?

sorry mate but i only know of the regulator behind the front light cluster, is there on under the fuel tank too?

yes there is but I beleave it gos to the back tail lights and the elc starter.
if its the stator you can test it if you have a battery tester.the amps well go up when you throtle the scoot up. that well tell you the stator is ok.

Check all conections are connected at the stator. Should be push in connectors/joints near where wiring comes out stator.
I had exactly the same problem a while ago when i had disconnected some stator wires to test something at it, ran the engine with the wires disconnected and headlight went super bright then blew withing 5-10 secs. Turn off the engine 1st then open and clean all the joints in the stator wires whete they come out just by the stator. Make sure you havent missed connecting up one of the push in joints.
If that doesnt work then you may have a problem with the stator itself.

Right guys. Ordered a new resistor and replaced it, guess what......lights blew. I'm gonna check the stator wires as suggested hopefully something will be loose! If not then a new stator it is I suppose

I cant see it being the stator. If you test voltage at idle on the battery terminals then rev it and the voltage rises that tends to mean the stator is ok, normally. If the volts dont rise then its not working, or somethings wrong in the stator wiring.
What resistor did you change? Was it the regulator/rectifier you meant that you changed? Cos thats what controls the voltage and keeps it steady to stop volt surges etc which would blow the bulbs.

Did you know the one you put in was def a good working one?
If it was then i guess it must be something else. Electrics can be difficult to diagnose :-\
Still sounds likeca regulator problem tho. Did you def connect the new one up right?

make sure you got the right bulbs that watt and the amps makes a big dif..

did an electric test on the scoot today, checked the regulator and it looks like it is fried!!!!!!!! new one ordered; gonna check the stator tomorrow to the battery to seem what the voltage is like will let you al know how i get on. thanks for all the tips tho

Checked stator to battery, 12v whe idle, and 12 v when revved. Reckon it could be the regulator , any thoughts

Hard to tell but the earlier issues def sound to me like its the regulator/rectifier :-\
Kymco want a fortune for one at the dealer but ebay had some going cheaper last time i looked, were about 1/4 of dealer prices.

try cleaning all the wireing ends with a small piece of sandpapper. the ones going to the regulator.and the stator any wires that has power going out of. After time the wires do get bad.

something i lernt over the years when you disconect contacts put some vasaline on the contacts, it prevents water or corosion.so when disconecting and cleaning put some after.

This is absolutely a voltage regulator problem. Weird thing is that you can unplug your voltage regulator and the headlights will still work. I never could find the entire diagram but seems like the voltage regulator must inject some sort of opposite voltage based on what that stator is producing to maintain. The voltage at 12 volts. I have an Agility 125 that started burning out headlights. After I burned out the second set I hooked a multimeter up and saw that the volts were increasing with the RPMs. Tested the regulator according to the manual and saw that there was no combination of pins registering resistance. Installed a new voltage regulator and Bam, everything was measuring right around 12v no matter what the RPMs were.
