Title: Modded '07 People S 50 4t need help!!!
Post by: Juxpitos on August 28, 2012, 09:44:53 PM
Hi i am new here and have a HUGE question regarding my People S 50.

I put the 83cc big bore kit on it and have the CDI shaved, Upped the main Carb jet to a 105 put a cone air filter and performance exhaust also raised the carb pin, I don't see the washer on the boss drive nor a shoulder to stop the belt from rising But it loses all power at about 40 MPH.

It gets to speed like a bat out of hell and i don't see any problems with acceleration.

I don't know what could be causing this, besides the stock CDI having a Rev Limiter but i am not sure it does or not. if you have had this problem or have a suggestion that i haven't mentioned here PLEASE let me know, i would love to see what this Scoot can do now!

sounds like a limeter on cdi. have you checked you variator? to see if the belt is going all the way up? best thing to do is draw a line from centure to the end of the face plate and then ride it. the pen should be worn off if the belt is going all the way. this will show if drive boss ltd.also check your roler weights. the lighter the roller the faster the accelaration but less top end.

Can't get to the roller weights but it's acceleration is great.

It's almost like it stops getting gas at 40.

Worn rollers, or worn belt, or too stiff torque spring, or too light rollers, or sticking torque drive, or combination of those poss.

Do what Skippy said 1st with the magic marker on the variator and make sure the belt is riding up to the outer edge of the variator, bet it isnt.

tried it and the marker wears off all the way up.

Has it ever gone over 40mph? Not sure of the people top speed cos i have an Agility. What about downhill, does it go past 40 then?

when the only mod done was the de-restricted CDI it would do 38 mph.

Maybe 40mph is the top speed then  ???

Slapping on a bigger kit doesnt mean more top end, it just give you more power and torque to get to the top speed and climb hills etc. The top speed is ruled by the size of the variator, the rear pulley and the belt. If you already had it going at its best achievabke top speed before the kit the you would not gain any top speed after fitting the kit, you would just get more power to get you up to speed etc.
Since you say the belt is riding up to the top of the variator then i guess its maxed out at 40mph. If thats the case then the only way to increase the top end is to fit an oversized variator and rear pulley, stage6 made one but i dont know if its compatable with your scoot. Only other option is to change the gearing in the rear box.

Then it's time to sell the scoot, Sorry but 40 isn't going to cut it. time to go with a taotao, i hear they do 50 MPH stock  $2000 all OEM and aftermarket parts included, only 1025 miles on 50cc and only 10 miles on 83cc. get it while the getting is good.

You need to get something larger than 50cc . Also just so you will know Tao Tao's are absoloute crap . Good luck .

I did get something larger than 50cc it was the 83cc BBK, and that only helped accel. From my point of view a TaoTao that can do 50+ WITHOUT modding is WAY better than a Kymco than can't do 40 WITH modding!!!

you just have the wrong kymco. ok after mods ours get 50mph ish but its a 4t. just get a 2 stroke if you want 60 mph. if you need more get a 125cc
for the roads we use 40 to 50mph is enough
at the end of the day kymco is a good strong reliable product that is made to be ltd to 30 stated by law

As stated MY problem with MY Kymco is it has been modded and WON'T get to 40 on the Speedometer without cutting out badly. when it was stock it would get to 42 before it started stuttering and keeping a constant speed of 42. now when it hits 38-40 it cuts out and drops to about 32-34 and then picks back up only to do the same thing.

I would be fine if my scoot would do 40 as a top speed as long as it stayed at 40 without cutting out badly, but i think it should get to at least 50 with the power it still has before it cuts out.

I was planning to get this registered as a motorcycle after the BBK work had been done.

Did you post in the People section? More likely to get the correct advice there from other people owners. They can also tell ypu if 40 is tbe max speed or not. I can get 52mph out my Agility 50cc with NO BBK on it, still 50cc's and a 4t. 40mph seems slow.

This people goes to 80km/h so it look like its similair to the A50 performance.

I take it you checked to make sure the rear pulley isnt one with the restriction on it too?

Or have you just given up now  :-\ saw you put a post to sell it. Wouldve made more sense to have done some proper research on it 1stbt i guess some folk just cant be bothered  ???

I have not given up on it, thought it is still for sale and i DID my research so don't get cocky. it's currently stumping the local moped mechanics as well as being offered on the market, if you think you can fix it, BUY IT, don't tell me i haven't done something just because you think i didn't.

as streido said you would get more help in the people post section. most of the time its always something small and simple that gets over looked.

Searched ALL posts with "People 50" in them any where on this site with NO help for my problems, plus i figured that the Tech help section would be a better bet for TECH HELP!!!
Title: Re: Modded '07 People S 50 4t need help!!!
Post by: streido on August 29, 2012, 10:30:36 PM
The tech section is meant to be a general section for general tech write ups or advice. For more specific info on a specific model you will generally get more info and correct advice from others who own that model, in your case the people section.  :)

Wasnt getting cocky, just saying....

If you havent given up then why did you put it for sale  :-\

I dont want or need it, my A50 is faster and i already own 2 scoots. Besides i dont live in the states so the shipping cost wouldnt be worth it even if i did want it, which i dont cos its too slow  ;D

Just cos your pissed off with the scoot and cant resolve the problem on your kymco does not make all Kymcos or even all People 50's bad scoots, it just means you or your mechanic havent figured out how to fix it yet.

Anyway.......if you are interested in trying to fix it then why not PM Wordslinger and ask him nicely if he can offer any advice or help, he has a people and knows his stuff so that may be your best bet.

.......or just give up, sell it, and buy the Tao Tao.

Well steroid despite what you want to believe, it is at the shop getting fixed, if they can't figure it out or they can and it's a sh** ton of work any interested buyer will be told it's location so they can look at it and have a mechanic tell them whats up and down with it. so thank you.

So you have checked for the restriction on the rear pulley then? A lot more scoots seems to have them now. Will be a raised section on the torque drive face.

the restriction on my Kymco was on the Drive Boss and it has been removed. there is no form of restriction on the rear pully

If your rear driven pulley looks like this pic it is restricted. Notice the ring sticking out in the center.

well First off i should say that IF a pulley was restricted (and there not) it would top speed and stay there, as it sits as soon as i hit 40 it loses all power like it's not getting enough gas and drops 5-7 MPH.

thanks though

my thoughts keep going back to the cdi. i would try another for the time being, as you say its like not getting enough gass.
all i can think is  the carb/ cdi or jetting mix and air.

well i feel stupid, the rear clutch pulley is restricted, thought it's not the reason my bike dies out. Is there a way without buying a new one to de-restrict the stock one?

http://www.4secondsflat.com/plug_chart.html (http://www.4secondsflat.com/plug_chart.html) the chart i use with plug chops, The Image attached is my plug, i think it's between a 19 and 22, what do you think?
Title: Re: Modded '07 People S 50 4t need help!!!
Post by: streido on September 08, 2012, 10:45:28 AM
You want to cut off the threaded part of the plug and get a good look down at the bottom of the insulator. You want to have a nice ring of brown/tan at the base. The top part is not telling you richness or leaness just how hot it detonates.

Thats why is called Plug Chops i guess, cos you need to chop the plug. I had a good guide somewhere, if i find it i'll post it up later.

You can buy a new Torque drive part only instead of a complete rear pulley to remove the restriction, i take it the restriction is on the moving face?

correct on the restriction being on the moving face.

Try something like this http://www.racingplanetusa.com/torque-driver-naraku-sport-torque-converter-secondary-slider-naraku-sport-p-6702-1.html (http://www.racingplanetusa.com/torque-driver-naraku-sport-torque-converter-secondary-slider-naraku-sport-p-6702-1.html)

Or just buy new or 2nd hand stock one but without the restriction. Think its just newer ones have them.

You may even be able to grind off the raised part or even better put it in a lathe if you have access to one or know someone who works in a machine shop?

My question about that is  the back plate to that has a recession in it and it looks/feels like it would fit, plus i tried the draw a strait line from the center to the edge of the pulley (front and back) The line made on both was removed completely. as i am lead to understand that means it won't go faster than the 40 i can get it going, but there is nothing for the belt to rub on inside the case and i don't think that that would cause the sudden jerking/loss of power that i am experiencing, though i could be wrong.
Title: Re: Modded '07 People S 50 4t need help!!!

That ridge is def a restriction on them. Was just using that link as an idea of what to buy, dont even know if it fits your model. I do know many rear pulleys are interchangable between models tho, my Agility 50 has a rear pulley from another Kymco (cant remember which one it came out of now).

Not sure about the jumpy/jerky feeling your getting tho, could be the belt sticking in the rear pulley maybe? Or torque drive sticking? When did you last dis-assemble it and clean and re-grease the torque drive?

My thing is it never gave me a problem like that until i put the BBK on it and now i don't even get to the same speed before it starts cutting out/jerking. Either way i think i am going to buy http://www.partsforscooters.com/169-162-4T-Conversion-Kit_2?sc=11&category=735 (http://www.partsforscooters.com/169-162-4T-Conversion-Kit_2?sc=11&category=735) and swap everything out though i need a new rocker assembly as mine is for 69mm Valve and the kit is for 64mm short valve and try as i might i can't find a rocker arm assembly or rocker arms for that matter that are for a 64mm valve, any site i am over looking that you know of? as i would love to use the performance head. as it sits i believe i have the stock 50cc head on mine as the rocker arms and valves didn't line up right, damn 5mm!

You can't cut the hump out. Its just stamped sheet metal. There is no thickness behind it. Sorry...

You are better off using the OEM head. It has a smaller combustion chamber, and makes higher compression. I have done the same thing. Your issue is in the carb/jetting. There is ONE remote possiability... The valve timing may be one tooth out. Double check for true TDC, and see where the cam lines up. Also double check the tensioner. If it is weak or stuck it will allow the timing to float by one link in either direction.
