Original battery finally puked. Kept gettin' a 6 code on the CELP light. Got a replacement from Wal-Mart ( y'all just hush!) and followed the instructions exactly which includes 1-3 hour charge at less than 2 amps. I think this initial charge is important or the manufacturer would not insist. This initial charge is something that has been around for as long as dry charged batteries but most do not do it. Dealers do not generally do it because they do not want to take the time. I do not believe MY dealer did the initial charge because he did not even install the battery clamp! I have stated here previously this shortcoming. Now I am accusing him of not properly preparing the battery. I say this because I noticed a difference in how the digital speedometer behaves since the new battery is in place. It still seems to anticipate gaining and losing speed with a change in displayed numbers but does so in a smoother manner. It seems more stable in its presentation. Before it would dither all over the place especially at higher speeds (45 and up). All else seems the same.

My battery just died on Sunday, and my dealer has ordered a new one -- should be in on Wednesday. Glad I saw this post as I'll make sure that they charge it before I pick it up.

Yeah, Wolf. It will probably extend its useful life if they do as long as they don't go above 2 amps. Now maybe you can tell me what Vivo is snickering about......

ps; I had to tighten down my battery connections again.  This time a wrench, no screwdriver.  :'(

Looks like Vivo got his booze set up like an IV bottle!

New battery DID NOT eliminate the low battery code (6). Went through the Service Manual procedure for that code and even applied dielectric grease on all connectors and I still got a code after a ride. All battery functions nominal: starting, lights, instruments. Battery volts consistent throughout albeit a bit low after surface charge goes away (12.86-12.95) . You tell me if you have any ideas. I plan to erase the code every time it shows up and keep on ridin'!

My two cents.
Please spend the few dollars and buy a Battery Tender from amazon and put that charger on once a week.
Two things you will learn to be aware of. 1 is my battery getting weak or dying and 2. Is my charging system working.
Years ago when Honda decided to sell cars in the US that had air cooled motorcycle engines, I had one and a dry battery exploded on me and I learned to respect the damage that can be done by a bad battery. Loved that Car.
