cheers peeps, got a few more bits n bobs to do to it but its more of a beater so not looking to win any awards on the finish, just something to have fun with
-
That's soo cool it's actually a bad ass scoot! I love it. I can do all the work but have no "flair" for design. I'd never think to do something so cool.

im a big fan of tankgirl and so this is what i came up with
..yo tankboy..i just bought a 2001 cobra..all oem derestricted....
..how's that tankgirl scoot perform??
..aaannnd, wtf issa "tankgirl"..reckon i missed it..lol..
-
Lol wordslinger. You need to google it. Tank girl is awesome. Read the comics. It was done by Jamie Hewlett, the dude that did Gorillaz. Anyhoo its standard apart from the paint. So 27mph Max (lame) working on de-restricting it but I can't find the bloody copper wire in the cdi and for some reason I can't get the crank case off to install the new boss .....any suggestions much appreciated
-
..i will def google tankgirl.. ;D
...what year is your cobra??
..the 2 that i've seen have a green wire with a connector coming out of the bottom of the cdi..
..like this...
-
Mines a 2000. My cdi isnt like that. If you do a forum search for "YouTube cdi " I posted some pics of mine there, the most annoying thing is the crank case. I removed all the bolts but the bloody thing wouldn't come off. What speed do you get out of yours?? Are you on the UK?
-
..mines a 2001..the other one i saw was a 2000, just a cpl weeks ago..
..i'm in the US, in central North Carolina...
..i've only ridden mine a few time so far, as i'm recovering from a dislocated shoulder, but she topped out over 80 kmh downhill..
..has good power take-off thru mid as well..
..is your drive boss derestricted??
..what rpms does it run at take-off, top speed...
-
Ah hope us shoulder gets better soon dude. No boss isn't de-restricted. I have a de-restricted boss to install that's why I'm trying to get the crank case off. Think I may have to get my local mechanic to do it. As for the rpms I'm not sure. Seems standard, not redlining at all. Hence trying the cdi. Ill have another crack at the cdi with the kitchen knife tomorrow and see if I get any further
-
..thanx tank..
..so, r you in th uk?
..dang, they may have set these scoots up different here than there i think...
..gotta change th boss and get that cdi derestricted for sure...
-
Changing the boss is not a big deal at all. Hardest part is getting the variator nut off. You need an impact wrench or something to hold the variator while you loosen the nut. Once you get that off it's really easy. Look up scooter CVT on youtube or google. You'll learn a lot about how they work.
-
@ wordslinger, yeah in the UK, not sure of the laws your side, i think its restricted in the uk because 17yr olds arnt allowed to ride more than 50cc but im deffinitly not 17 anymore, so it needs to be de-restricted
@peters, thanks but im not sure you read my actual issue, ive seen many vids on how to change the boss, that all looks easy and straight forward, the issue im having is removing the crank case cover to get to it, for some reason it doesnt want to come off!
-
Pound on it with a big rubber mallet, when it loosens up you'll hear it.
If it doesn't loosen, look around for the last bolt you forgot to take off.
Dead blow hammer.
-
Already did both. Attacked it like a loon with a mallet and checked every possible screw was removed. No joy.
Looks like ill have to take it to the garage. Cheers anyhoo peeps :-\
-
I see
I didn't understand because you called it a crankcase cover
It's called the CVT cover
-
Ah right. My bad. New to mopeds
-
Try wedging a putty knife into the crack. There are two locater dowels inside the cover that do get stuck. The cover is NOT water tight so no worries on making a dent in the seal/case.
-
..yeah, keep working at it..you'll get it... 8)
..be sure to clean and apply some dry lubricant to those dowels after you get it open..lol..
..they are scooters...NOT mopeds...lol..
;D
-
tie a dog to the cover and let a cat loose... dog will chase cat... and...

tie a dog to the cover and let a cat loose... dog will chase cat... and...
:D :D :D
I like that idea ;D
-
That's how you pull teeth. Gators are for removing stubborn cvt covers
-
Forgot to mention... Leave the dog tied to the cover, and let the gator loose
