Title: Which grease are you using on your torque driver?
Post by: wassonii on August 16, 2012, 05:16:59 PM: Hi all. I recently pulled apart, cleaned, and regreased my torque driver (OEM), but am having second thoughts about the grease I used. Valvoline Multi-purpose Automotive and Industrial. It's only been a few weeks, so no damage done, but I want to get a feel for what others are using with good results.

Post by: axy on August 16, 2012, 07:35:50 PM: Graphite or teflon - based, but any "general purpose machinery grease" will work.

Post by: streido on August 16, 2012, 09:09:34 PM: I tend to use the same grease i use for bearings on mine now, Lithium based high melting point grease, tho i have used Rocol Dry Moly Paste in the past.

Post by: wassonii on August 16, 2012, 10:05:33 PM: I've been in my clutch several times the past few weeks, trying out springs with weights, but han't gone into the td in a coupla weeks. I'm having a time finding a U.S distr. for the Rocol Dry Moly since Streido mentioned it.

I only used it cos i "borrowed" a can from work, normal bearing grease is fine and easier to clean off the excess. That moly paste is some messy sh** to clean off once its on unless you have cleaner. I wouldnt buy it, i just used it cos it was free and i had it at the time and had no bearing grease. Still worked tho for me at the time.

Napa auto parts apparently has some manner of dry moly, but I'll be getting some Lucas Oil grease in a tube.
Apparently, the Valvoline is rated to just under 300 degrees, while the Lucas oil grease is between 500-540, depending on whether I get the tacky or the heavy duty.
