My 2007 S 200 is finally broken in - just hitting the 1000 mile mark today.
The top speed is a bit short of my hopes. It seems to run out of steam at about 57 mph (per GPS) on level ground. Note that the speedo reads about
66 mph (15% high). The tires are inflated to the manual's recommended
pressures for 2 riders, and I weigh around 200 lbs.
What's your top end (level/no wind) speed?

I also have a 2007 Kymco Peoples200. I have noticed the higher speedometer reading and the highest readout on the scooter is around 67 give or take and this is with 2 people (340lbs) and flat terrain. It should go faster with just you. Have you changed the airfilter in it recently? Also, check the airpressure in the tires and buy the best premium gas.

I'm at the manual's recommended pressure for 2-up riding (higher than 1-up), and the filter's clean.
The speedo reads 68 max on level ground. It now has 1000 miles on it, an I think this is a little higher than it read at 500 miles. Maybe a little more break in will give me an extra mph or two. Also, a switch to synthetic oil may help.

Your scoot should be broken in by now . I used the hard break-in by motoman that I found at the scootdawg forum. My 125 s top end at 500 mi is 63.4 mph. :)

my 200s now has 1300 miles-----top ind. speed--68. top gps speed 62. ----i have owned 11 scoots and broke in 5.---these modern close tolerance engines take 3000 miles plus , to break in. specially when you start using full synthetic at 1000 miles(as i do). bout every time i go out, i WOT the scoot for10--15 seconds. i cruise this scoot between 55--60 ind. like the scoot. am have the seat redone-----i weight 210. thx kingfish florida

I'm currently scooterless. The S200 appears to be an attractive candidate for my next scoot; hopefully I'll get one this Summer, finances permitting.
I'm a few pounds past 250 and want a simple, reliable scoot for urban commuting and errands. My last scoot was a peppy 125cc Daelim which could get up to 60 mph! I also enjoyed employing it as a 2 wheeled truck; that is, It was good for groceries.
My nearest Kymco dealers are 60 and 75 miles away, respectively. I wonder if 55 mph would be realistically possible for a 265 lb. rider?

It will do much more than 55, especially indicated. You would do 65+ two up on Agility 125, at least indicated.

Being a good hour from my nearest dealer, this 256 lb. bike wouldn't be so difficult to push up a ramp into the back of my truck for transporting to my nearest dealer for any warranty work.
The S200 gives one the impression that there's less to go wrong and less to maintain, with it's air-cooled, carbureted powerplant. S200s pop up on Craigslist for the low $2,000s frequently. Definitely a candidate this Summer.

I was also considering 200S but settled with 250S.
If you can stretch your budget that far, it will reward you with even more space, size, power, one extra disc brake in the front and one rear etc. than 200S.
But, 200S is OK machine.

Axy: I've no doubt the S250 represents a substantial improvement over the S200 from top to bottom. They show up used at fair prices as well. My reasons for being interested in the S200 are more pragmatic:
1. The S200 weighs in at just 256 lbs. My little Asian wife and I can easily push this bike up the ramp and into the back of my truck for transporting to the nearest dealer(s) which are over an hour away.
2. Flat floorboard, simple design under the hood, would hopefully translate to lower maintanence costs.
3. It's a Kymco, and enjoys a reputation for reliability.
Thanks for the replies and I'd like to hear/read more about your S250! Although getting a 350 lb. bike in and out of the back of a high Toyota Tundra would be serious work, from my POV.. *Local dealers refuse to sell Kymco or Sym.

I purchased my Peoples S 200 about a month ago. I am 6'1" and 245 lbs. When I purchased it I was assured it would carry me about hill and all with no problem.......you know they were right!! I have no problem on hills or through community roads and lights. To add, people love the looks of it...I am 70 years young and married and as I drive past schools etc...even the young ones holler out..."nice Bike". I wear the padded jacket, $150.00 and it is a well spent investment. $150.00 helmet with face shield and of course good gloves. At first I thought about wearing all this and than I made up my mind and I feel so much better. All this weight and this Scooter is fantastic, I'm haveing a ball.

New member here. Have had my S200 since summer of last year. A little under 1500 miles so far. I'm getting a top seed (indicated) of about 57-59. Was hoping for a bit more. Its good enough for my commute, but I'd like a little more for trips on country roads. Planning on pulling the bodywork and checking the valve adjustment and reading the spark plug soon. Anyone know if they tend to run a little lean from the factory?

Olaha! If anything most of the scoots we all by run on the rich side unless we tune them. Lean Always $uck$, and Rich is never dangerous. If your scoot sat in a shed over the winter it most likely just needs to be ridden/ w/ Sea foam/whatever in the tank. A 200 doing 60ish? Makes me proud. You're doing the best you can...ever...! Kidding again! Your scoot will last forever if you treat it as a commuter. The S/8 150 is the $chtuff. Some engines will go forever if you want them to,

Hey All, I'm a new scoot owner and new to road bikes of any sort. I bought my s200 last week and am grinning like a boarding school kid smoking pot! I weigh in at 145 and have no trouble getting good speed out of my s200. I have not fully wound it out yet, but have hit 65 indicated without much problem. I guess it helps being a feither weight though! Thanks for all the help this forum provided before I settled on a Kymco.

Welcome to the forum realguy. Had my s200 out today chasing parts and had a blast doing it. I noticed at one point today i was pushing 120kl with my fat behind on there with some throttle to spare. The temp was a little cooler here since my last go around with the jets and seems to have paid off for today. Can't wait to get the rest of the parts for this one and button it up. It's a great scoot and i'm a 2t guy!

I have a new belt, new clutch and 14g sliders in my s200, which has about 6500 miles on the clock.
60 GPS is about it, but it does hold that speed up gentle hills. We don't have really really steep hills on the highways here.
When I take some steep hills on local roads, it accelerates all the way to the top.
But something limits it to about 60 MPH.

Well, knowing what I posted and happy with the Peoples S200, I went and made that move to stepping up! I know people said, "wait", you'll want something bigger and they were right! I traded in for a Downtown 300i and am looking forward to warm enough weather here in PA to ride. I decided that I wanted a higher crusing speed to go to some of the places of interest here in Western PA. What I didn't know about the S200 when I purchased it was it was only about 160 some cc. The 300i is listed at just about 300. I went from Red S200 to Silver in the 300. I started out by going to the 300i forum's prior to purchasing this new ride. As in here, there are very helpful people eager to help out. Thanks, 200 forum.

Good to hear Syl. You aren't the only one who did some stepping up. The top end I was able to see was 65 (gps) on a downhill with a 70mph tailwind :o .

Kymco changed the jet size, making it smaller, a few years ago. I don't know why, but my surmise is that it was to reduce emissions. I upjetted mine slightly, but really don't know if this helped or hurt performance.
I don't know how you jet an automatic - most of the jetting procedures involve killing the engine at speed, coasting to a stop, and inspecting the spark plug. You can't do this with a centrifugal clutch because it keeps turning, driven by the rear wheel.

2007 s200 top speed 100 klm about 60 mph 55 gps. 10 percent error in speedometer about 18,000 miles.

To improve top speed, try a big windshield if you haven't already. Notice how much drag you create at speed by sitting in the normal position, then hunch down so your helmet flows right over the small stock screen. I gain over 5 mph on the top end by doing this, and you can really feel a huge reduction in drag.

My Yager is right on by GPS. 65 MPH was 64 on GPS. I had a little throttle left but no road. Pretty accurate I'd say.
UPDATE; When I crossed 1000 miles, there was an obvious change in the engine speed. At the same time I switched to syn oil. I was on the super slab about a week ago. I was over the red line but for a short time I hit 75 miles per hour. I red line at 65 mph but sometimes I go over it. Does anyone else go over the red line and for how long? I don't want to blow the engine.

i weigh 250 plus 10 for clothing, helmets etc. I have a full size windshield. I can do a real 55 mph (on the speedo) against the wind and up to 10 more (on the speedo) with the wind.

I had my s200 out and on a half mile run hit a speedo top speed of 57MPH with a 7% over statement that figures to be about 53 MPH. I'm 175 lbs. and have a full wind screen.
It may have run a bit faster with a longer run but it didn't seem to have much if anything left in her.

Had my scoot out on the hjighway for about a 1 mile run on Tuesday. Got her up to a tick under 60 on the speedo so my best guess is 55 MPH. She sounds stressed at WOT though, I backed off a couple of MPH and she felt very comfortable (sounded).

I owned a 2006 Kymco People S200 for 3 years (never should have sold her) Bought a Suzuki TU-250X motorcycle & I just sold her to my dealer (in-trade) for a Kymco GT300i. The S200 was a real gem of a scoot! I did all the maintenance myself (so easy) Plus...I'm not mechanically inclined @ all! But...At the time I was about 200 lbs., now it's 6 years later & I tweaked my knee & put on an additional 30 lbs. So..Yes...I'm a semi-fatso now (need to shed it) Anyway.... The GT300i felt like the right scoot for me @ this point in my life.
The People S200 was/is a great scooter for the coin! Does anyone know that today Kmyco only makes 5 models for the USA market that is still built in Taiwan? Yup.....That is the truth! Everything else is built in China. I'm not saying it's the worst thing...but I rather have a scoot made in Taiwan, then China. Just my 2 cents worth!
BYW...I got up to 63mph (GPS clocked) on my S200 @ the time & at 200 lbs.! For what it's worth!

You just rang my bell, I now have put one complete thought together. I have the 12V socket under the seat and my wife has a GPS in her car, I'll have to barrow it one day for an accurate reading. Duh!!!!

I have a 2009 and I can get up to 55-60 without much of a problem. Never pushed her past that. I got this bike last year after driving one of those cheap Chinese bikes. I feel like I bought a Cadillac after driving those other bikes. Sometimes I have no idea how fast I am going until I look down. I don't think I want to go much faster on such a light bike.
