I just read the post on the new windshield, a while ago I thought I would want one, but I'm now happy with the stock shield.
Now to the red line. I would like to know how many riders observe the warning. My Yager redlines at 65 mph. I have gone over the line to pass a slow cage, but only then and only for a very short time. There are times when I'd like to cruise at 70 for a while but I'm afraid to cross the red line for more than a minute or so. I'm looking for other opinions and how many feel the way I do.

Hmmm.....That's a great question.
I am planning on getting a Yager soon so that would be helpful to know what others think about that.

Seriously, I think that riding in the red line is completely fine but just not all the way to the max for extended periods of time.

Hit that red once in a while then back out.... . It's healthy.... 8) ..more than a minute is too long in my opinion...

I think manufacturers set the red line conservatively so going up to and over shouldn't be a problem. But I don't think extended running at red line is a good thing for any 4 stroke engine.
Now some of the little 2 strokes, they just hum right along at redline or above.

I tend to follow your lead and keep on or below the red line, though I think if you don't pin the needle to the max for an extended period of time you should be fine. I've been trying to find time to take a trip to the shore via the White Horse Pike. If so, I'm sure I'll be cruising up to 70 on a few occasions.

Anyone freaking out about the redline should get the Downtown (which has no redline) or the People 300, which has no
rev counter at all. Problem solved!

Maaaannnn -- make me feel like crap now. But seriously what's the top speeds on the 300s? I'd like my next scooter to actually be a GV 250. I like the size, the backrest and the flat running boards.

The 28-30hp Kymco 300s will do 85 to 90mph indicated which is rather close to real GPS speed, great speedo.
The Xciting 300 (which is rated around 23hp) will also indicate 90, BUT.. ;D
Takes a lot of effort tuning the variator on the G5 DT/People since you need to keep it "on the boil" to
get any of the extra power it has. Stock, it'll go fast after it reaches 55mph.. up to that, it's not much
faster then a normal 250.

I guess I'll just do what I have been doing. I cross the line for a few minutes, but no longer. As to 70 mph on the White Horse Pike it will be very difficult. Too many lights. The Black Horse Pike will give you a better shot once you get close, but 70 will still be tough. Or better yet, try the AC Expressway, I've done it and its not so bad. :)

Bare in mind that most 250cc (22hp) scoots will reach 60mph in 12-14 seconds, so if that works
for you, you're good to go. Usable top speed in my opinion is about the same on both People/DT
and other 250cc scoots with lower power, about 75mph.
However, at 75mph, the People/DT WILL accelerate rather well up to over 85, while a 250 will
slowly creep up in speed after that point.
Also, a stock Downtown will hit 60mph in 11 seconds, and People 300 in 10 seconds.
That's a considerable difference.

Good advice, Richard. I keep thinking there are long stretches of open road as you get closer to the shore, but most likely it's stop and go as you said.
Cortez -- good to know which bike has good escape speed, something needed once you're on the freeway.

While there's some stuff different even between bikes of same power, this getting away
business is all down to power and how the CVT is tuned.
30hp is 30hp, and IMHO, it's just adequate to get you up to traffic speed on the on-ramps if
the traffic is flowing at around 80mph.
That's one of those things I liked better on my kawasaki.. it would get up to speed faster
then my DT even with the malossi multivar that'll pin the revs to 8000 even in 6th gear.

There's no mention of redline in the manuals. I have heard of some GY6
scooters running up to 11000 RPM's before they blow up! So I don't think
you will hurt the Yager over reving to 9000.

The only thing that comes to mind could be waterpump cavitation. An aircooled GY6 wouldn't have that issue. Taking a page from Yager200i and adding a "water wetter" could reduce the chance of cavitation.
