Title: Did some work on scoot today
Post by: blue on July 10, 2012, 10:06:11 PM
Put on a open airfilter with rain gard. 5 gram rollers and a fresh new belt. gets me up to 40 at just 3/4 of the throtle at full throtle I can reach 45 easy I dont beleave it.  oh ya a 85 jet also. Now I just need to keep a eye on my plug and do dayly plug chops for a while. I love my scoot ounce again.

Cool thinking about an open air filter for mine once I get the cvt right....
Crazy to think a little scoot can benefit that much from a little breathing. Good work!
From other posts some will think you might need a bigger jet still but sounds like you are on top of it with the plug checking...

even with the stock pipe.

..open air intake alone, requires more of a jet increase than the addition of an aftermarket exhaust alone...

...anytime you significantly increase air flow into the carb, with a free-flow filter in place of oem airbox, you must up-jet 10-15% in jet size!!

..given, the 4ts are a bit more forgiving, but blue..you gotta be running lean...

..of corse, i dunno how restrictive the shroud might be...

+1 even on a 90 i was lean, reckon i had it narrowed down to needing between 94-96.

Of course then i swapped my pipe and it went lean all over again so now i need to restart jetting again. Mine is off rigjt now cos i dont jave the time or weather right now, plan to revisit it after my holiday in a few weeks.

ok ok ok just tell what I should do. do you know what size drill bit I need to make it a 90 or better. I have extra jets I can drill but nothing that big.

ok so if blue needs a #90  because of an openfilter with a stock exzaust on a 50cc then i must need to go quite afew jets up in size as im running a bigger cylinder with an open filter.....hmmmm i only have upto a #100.....damn!!

Really can't base your jet size on what somebody else is using. There are plenty of variables in carburetor jetting including the type and size of the carb itself. Needle settings and taper. The mods you have. The way the CVT is set up. Then you have climate, altitude, etc... Word and zombie even say that tire pressure can change jetting.

Best way to do it is with a dyno. Since most of us don't have access to a dyno, plug chops are the way to go. And I see it get mentioned so much and then people say "well I checked the plug". It's not enough. There is plenty of info out there on plug chops by just doing a simple google search. Learning to read the plug is an art form. I'm certainly no expert. Still sharpening my skills on the plug chops. But I have done my homework and trust me you can spend days reading about it. GOOGLE IT!

When doing a plug chop you want to see how the insulator looks, you dont go by the colour of the metal the tip that bends over the
tip. you want the white insulator to turn a nice light brown/tan colour. You will want to look deep down into the hole to look at the bottom of the insulator and see if theres a brown ring around it. I thought it was the tip you went by too till Word squared me upon it.

If you cant see down far enough to the bottom of the insulator you need to chop off the threaded part with a hacksaw to get a good look, like this.......thats why its called plug chops i guess?

Idle mix??
as long as I had the scoot I never played with the idle screw. I went to push the back brake by hand down by the back tire. and i got a elec shock what hell. I did take the elc. starter of the bike but should I ground the wire to smoething or can I just unplug it.

You Have to attach the green wire to the engine. It wont run without it. The red you just tie back to itself.

The reason it runs with the brake on is the light makes a circuit to ground when the light is on. The engine was using that ground to run. When you let off the brake no more ground/no more run
