Title: Front use only?
Post by: Glenn on July 04, 2012, 01:20:56 PM
I have a super 8 50 2t and had a flat on the rear tire. Could'nt repair it so went to dealer purchased the standerd size tire for the rear. When I was putting it on I noticed it said "front use only". Does it matter?

The tires have same size (front and rear) Check other specs of the tire other than size. The rear might have a different load index (load rating) than the front. My opinion...

Tread patterns can be different

Thanks for the response. I checked the load ratings,The front is 480lbs the new rear is 520lbs.The tred pattern does look like it will be fine. The pattern goes a bit higher on the side walls than a standard rear tire pattern. I'm going to run it like it is. I will report back from home or the hospital if I have any problems ;D. Just a heads up...My front tire size is a 120/70-14 not the 100/80-14 that my manual says it has.I did by it new(Helped the dealer uncrate it). Thanks again.

Front tires are made with a round profile that gets lower in turns. The rear is made to lift the scoot taller into a turn. It will feel strange using a front on the rear. You will lose grip easier. I would try another route...

Update...Called Dunlop rep, He said front tire on back is a big no-no. It changes brakeing capabilites in a bad way. also like zombie said cornering will be less stable. So I went back to dealership and said "Dude you sold me a front tire for the rear of my scoot" They apologized many times and ordered me the correct tire direct from Kymco.

Rub it in... Tell them your dog borrowed the scoot for a beer run, and he wiped out on the first corner. No beer! No dog! No future business!
