Dr. Pulley or Malossi variator, anyone have any thoughts, concerns, opinions, rants ,raves etc... about which one is the best for performance and quality?
-
Have not tried either myself but lots have a Malossi and never once have i read a bad remark about them anywhere. Apart from moaning about he price that is :D
-
Right one, I was thinking Malossi, but then on another forum I glance at once in a while I saw a lot of good things said about the Dr. Pulley. I'll most likely end up going with the Malossi unless I start hearing great stuff from you guys about the Dr. Pulley. The other forum is a chinese scooter enthusiast forum... not be to trusted :D
-
Revising this post.... Need a part from scooter parts .com and want to get a multavar but they only have the Dr pulley variation... Is it just as good as the molossi or should I just order from someone else? Anyone run the Dr pulley?
-
I prefer Jasil to any others. Top Racing is the company. I ran Malossi for 3-4 years, and never realized my drive boss was too long. Malossi makes great parts but they do not care about proper fitments across the board. Jasil knew the boss is shorter (on my engine) and included the correct part. Malossi did not include the correct part. 3-4 years without even knowing I was losing 4 mph...
Jasil does NOT include a contra spring but the Malossi spring is useless anyway. It's weaker than OEM
-
knew the boss is shorter (on my engine)
Dam skippy, the ZX boss is real short......mine is anyway.. ;)
-
..that zx issa red-headed stepchild, compared to other kymcos...
..but they some runnin' muthafukkas!!!

So the boss that comes with the Multivar is too long? What is the right length? I'm gonna measure when it comes in the mail tomorrow.
-
3-4 years without even knowing I was losing 4 mph...
..that's common...

..nnnno, oem is @800...the provided white malossi is rated @ 1000, and is a definate improvement over the oem a50 torque spring.....sssoo.......
-
So the boss that comes with the Multivar is too long
..the boss that comes with the multivar measures 37.5mm...oem is 38mm, ssso no, it's not too long, and offers the possibility of at least a cpl mph increase over oem...
-
Sweeeet, good to know my upgrade is a true upgrade!
-
..yeah, i shortened a cpl of bosses to 37.5 waaay back, and havnt run one longer than that since...
..got one at 37, 36.5, 36...
..i experiment a lot...lol...
-
..i think i just said this..in another thread..
..the best performance i ever got from my screaming 08 came from malossi bits...
..i might have achieved higher top speeds without them...but by then i had modded in lots of other ways...
..i'm running the same malossi multivar you have, in nina, my 50cc super9 LC even now, and am getting the best cvt response that i've ever had with a 2t..
...again, ssssoo......
-
HA, The ONE part i do have left of a name brand is a Multivar in my Ag..
IDK about extra top end but i do like my Ag from 0-40 for sure. GREAT city scooter when tuned in. I do acheive over 50mph repeatedly with her in a cpl straights I've shot vids of.... ;)
-
..YUP, and that's about all you could expect from a derestricted, tuned oem a50 engine...
..itsa true story...
-
..YUP, and that's about all you could expect from a derestricted, tuned oem a50 engine...
.. ???...Now I have seen a vid of you going faster than that.... ;D
-
..oh, yeah without a doubt!!!..but dang..
..it's ever hard to get there...
-
"..nnnno, oem is @800...the provided white malossi is rated @ 1000, and is a definate improvement over the oem a50 torque spring.....sssoo......."
The way Malossi has them rated is green, violet, blue, red. Those roughly translate to 1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000 / race.
The white, and yellow from my understanding are to replace the OEM for a "fresh" start. One is 36mm, and one 37 I believe. Either way they are stiffer but in no way as stiff as you may want. The Voilet Malossi is the one for best overall use. 1,500 in other brands.
For the boss being shorter... I meant in my engine as example. xz has a 34mm boss. gy6/kymco 2t's have 38mm
-
...disagree...the malossi blue issa 1500, not the violet...
..i've bought 3 of them from different places...
..they all short, waaay shorter than the white 1000, but definatly are RATED 1500, per the malossi oem packaging ...
..also have a red malossi mhr, which is rated 2000...
-
I got blue violet backwards. So where does that leave green?
-
...pretty sure green is their weakest...

This is what I am going by... I haven't found the Scale link yet... They compare all the pressures on a table scale. Compressed pre load vs install height pre load.
The % numbers Malossi lists are based on how many times more force the spring has. Ie... 40% stronger than oem/60% stronger ect...
They have the yellow/white listed as "reinforced" (sounds like oem or weaker to me) ;)
-
...i think the "base" spring is @ 700+..??
..a blue at +106% would make it @ 1500...
.the key is the (+)....add 106% to the base rating...
-
Hell all if I know... I like the purple one for now...
-
I have puppies... Gotta go!
-
I read somewhere on the internet that the white malossi was rated @ 800. But anyway, it takes 30 kg to fully compress it, which is the same as the standart spring. :)
-
Yesterday when I was installing my malossi multiyear and 1500 contra spring I played with the white one that comes with the multiyear and it did seem very close to the stock one...
-
..this i can tell you from experience, and you can try it for yourself if you like..
..there's no need to guess about it and wonder if what you read is true...
.i installed my first multivar without installing the spring...
..there was improvement in performance...
..a cpl of weeks later, i installed the white spring..
..again there was an improvement in performance..
..the rpms held higher at decelleration, and recovering from a turn..
..also revved higher at take-off, which is desirable if you're trying to get up in the 4t powerband quicker..
..try it!!
:o
peace
-
..whoop out the tools and the bits and experiment!!
;D
-
A new stock one is roughly the same.
Then theres the MHR stuff... Fu(k all hell if all the colors mean different rates ... again! Black is the new Red! Red is the new Violet, and so on. This is my first time trying Malossi springs, and so far I have three springs because I didn't like two of them. Thats for this build. The red was great in an 86cc. Blue is like a used 1500. It's not impressive by itself but it's not meant to be so ... mission accomplished. Purple/6.5gr rollers works for me. I'd guess about 14-16hp /12-13k rpm /380lbs. bike, rider.
-
..wish i knew what hp nina is generating...

That's the post my above post was referring to. Like Slinger said... Go Whoop them out!
-

What cylinder is it? OEM? I think oem is 3.7hp, and de restricted is closer to 5-6hp, with the tuning you have done I imagine you have to be near 8-9. I don't really know. That's just my "keyboard dyno". I bet J. has the numbers. I think his 9 dyno'ed at 13 something.
-
..its oem except for malossi filter and technigas next exhaust...
..dunno how cvt mods play into the mix...
-
You could read 1hp on a bad cvt set. That's what transfers the power. The better that is the more power to the road you get. The cvt is what controls the engine. The engine has NO control over the cvt. Use the cvt to get the engine where it runs best.
-
Use the cvt to get the engine where it runs best.
..well!!...there it is!!
..no more mystery!!
:-*
-
I know right! ::)

My rolley eyes are looking at your kissy face... It's freaking me the f*** out!
-
..nina is closest to optimum as she's ever been....

Unjinx!
-
..dang...i index my post opposite...
..latest at the top!
-
..i know..again!!!...
..i'm so stupid :o
-
I can also say i felt and saw a difference with a Malossi white over stock. It def shifted my gearing when i tried it and helped on hills and re-acceleration over stock. Not as good as a 1500 but a def improvement over my stock spring.
-
The thing there is the OEM was most likely "soft" by the time you traded. I ran the yellow that came with mine for about 2 years before I got a 1500, and It was night, and day. Again... My yellow was most likely soft by then.

True :-\
-
..the 2t yellow spring is stiffer than the 4t blue...
-
..wish i knew what hp nina is generating...
I'm sure that the police will gladly tell you xD
Joke aside, then you could problably visit one the garages, which check cars and ask them to check the hp for you. ;)
-
Run it down to Josh! I'm sure he would love to run it on the Dyno for you! I don't know what he charges but a 50 dollar bill sounds fair for a 1/2hr on the dyno! When we do the Carrabelle thing I would LOVE to bring mine up for a base line run.
-
..the 2t yellow spring is stiffer than the 4t blue...
I know that is correct. Just yesterday I compared the two on a bathroom scale. My 4t has a Blue that was installed when I got it. I compared it to my old Malossi yellow, and the yellow is 6lbs heavier. The blue read 36 compressed the yellow is 42.
Purple 2t is 51, blue 2t is 62, red 2t is 85. These are the 107mm springs from Malossi. Others are different

... And how hard were they each then? :D

Between chubby, and full on ;)

Just an update on the topic.... Bought the malossi multivar from racing planet. Shipping has been interesting just like kenho21.
Hopefully it will come sometime soon, their website said they had it here in the united states but then they sent me an email saying they had to ship it from Germany. Luckily I am a fisherman and am pretty patient!
-
It's the same story all over the web about them, and the shipping. Alot of people won't deal there anymore. I'm fine with it but I have time, and learned to wait for parts.
-
..yeah, they peaked a cpl months ago...
-
Yeah I figured it would be a decent wait.... Like I said I have learned patients and besides they killed everyone else on their prices.
So hopefully worth the wait! 8)
-
..if you can wait, it's worth it i reckon...
-
Bummer, when I ordered mine I received the same email, but when I emailed them they said it was available in the US. Luck of the draw I guess or hopefully their just wrong.
-
That's the point... They f***ing LIE! I've called them out on it. They lowered my cost my 10%. The wait won't change but price... That's another story. I'm setting up w/ MRP as well. They drop ship so it may work out for everyone.
-
I've heard mixed things about MRP... as far as dealing with supplier customer service and stuff.
-
The only issue with MRP comes when a buyer dosent accept the package or misses the delivery. The package is returned, and the seller has to pay the shipping/re-stock. Lots of on line parts sellers have failed because of this, and then they bitch about MRP.
Hell even Racing Planet may be a ploy , and really selling MRP> Who knows... I just have to fill the paper work, and email it back. With drop shipping I may be able to help save some money for everyone. The other shops I have to pay double shipping, and it cuts into the savings.
-
...i've almost ordered from MRP twice...had bits in my cart...
..both times i backed out...don't know why really...
-
Divine intervention perhaps??? :D
-
Yup still trying to be patient with my racing planet order.... Ordered a week ago today and they charged my credit card Thursday the 19th.
However not sure if they have my products in the states yet and still don't have tracking #s.... My patients will be wearing thinner come mid week or so.... :o
-
Racing Planet is a shop full of lying SOB's. They continually lie about every order. I stopped using them on my last order. They said my parts were in the US (fl) warehouse, and I received my parts 2 weeks later. They even knocked down my pricing but I don't like being lied to so even if they were FREE I will shop elsewhere.
-
SIP is cheaper, even with the shipping cost. The only downside is they don't do Malossi to the average rider in the U.S.
-
We'll have to see about that for sure. Maybe once a month "group orders" or similar.
