Title: Does this 250 motor sound ok?
Post by: lifeisabeach on June 18, 2012, 02:30:52 AM
I bought this bike a month ago, 07' people 250 and I've been working on getting it tuned back up..  It almost sounds like either the timing is WAY off or trans needs a refresh of parts or the exhaust is causing some sort of noise.  Had the carb gone over with a new atomizer and cleared out jet, new plug, and fresh fuel and fuel filter.  tops out to around 70mph (gauge is saying more, but I know its far from it)..

I apologize for the terrible quality.  I caught a lot of air noise with the footage, but I can only get it to reproduce the sound underway.  Let me know if it sounds terminal or something is just loose, or thats just the way these motors sound?

I would check your valve adjustments and your spark plug. Also check the belt in the cvt. when they stretch the can slap against the cvt case. another place to check is the exhaust manifold bolts. Mine came loose and I lost one once, made the scooter sound like it was ticking. All easy except the valves but even that is fairly easy.

It's tooo hard to tell anything. I have a GY^ that makes a similar soung. Sort of like a rattle, or the piston hitting the valves but I have found no issues with mine. Maybe the belt slapping around as suggested by Punk

It has an air injection system. It injects fresh air into the exhaust for emissions. It makes a rattling sound. My 250 does it as well.

Thanks guys,  I found a write up w/ pics on the timing tune up for the 250.  I'll need a day off to get to it, but definitely going to give it a shot DIY..  12k she's due!
