Title: proper oils?
Post by: mrmike on June 17, 2012, 08:22:28 PM: After looking around, I could not find a 15-40 full synthetic oil. I am going with Mobil 1 10-40 for the motor, and Mobil 1 75-90 for the transmission. Will there be any problems mechanically or with the warranty with these choices?

Post by: old geezer on June 17, 2012, 09:30:51 PM: Both of those oils will be fine. I use Mobil 1 4T 10W40 motorcycle oil for the engine in my S 250 and Castrol 75W90 synthetic for the gears. No problems what so ever.

If the manual states that you should use 15W40, there's obviously no need to go fully synthetic,
and synthetic is not always better.

Your bike will run fine, and the guys in the shop will not know you didn't use 15W40.
p.s. Changing the oil by yourself will void warranty in a lot of places so check that first.

Not in the US because of the Federal warranty laws, the Magnuson Moss Act.

Rotella is good but we don't have it here. I use Delo Gold 15w/40, also for diesel.
