Been messing with the scooter because of a jetting problem. I got it close but today I noticed some dirt in the gas tank and decided to drain the fuel. When I opened the shut-off valve I put on there was no fuel draining out with about 1 gallon in the tank. I thought it may have been defective so I took it off completely and still no gas was coming out of the line. I got a little bit to come out from syphoning hard on the fuel line. Is there a fuel filter on the S9? Or is no fuel coming out except with suction normal? Anyway what is this part at the bottom of the gas tank?

Looks like your vacuum fuel shut off valve. Supposed to stop fuel from going to the carb when the engine is not running.

Thanks for the quick reply racewalker, so i guess it is normal when you disconnect the fuel line that gas will not just pour out on these scooters?

It shouldn't unless you have vacuum on the line or it is faulty.
-
That is exactly right. The bottom line is a vacuum line that shuts the fuel off when the engine is NOT running. There is a screen inside the tank as well removing the petcock will give access to the screen. It appears someone has buggered yours up tho. There is NO hose clamp on the fuel petcock when new. So unless you are handy at fixing things I would suggest having that repaired correctly, or just Never touch it.

Zombie turned me on to partsforscooters.com. They're great! Should work on the S9 too.

Thanks back Peters. I needed one... I DON'T think it fits the S9 tho. Compare the part #'s on Stadium Yamaha first.

Different part #s. Still might work though. I wasn't sure it was going to work on the ZX until it got here.
