Title: NEW RACING cdi (for 2oo1 kymco zx/50 super fever
Post by: zombie on May 03, 2009, 05:53:23 PM
my 2oo1 super fever has a 70cc malossi jug, matching carb, technigas tuned pipe, malossi variator & clutch, kevlar belt, and kenda speed rated 120x70 ft.,130x60 rr. the scoot does 65-68mph w/200 lbs. rider. the problem is the factory cdi in the derestricted mode only lasts me 100 or so hours. i bought a NEW RACING (tzr-50) cdi on-line, and was given wireing instructions that do not match my harness. does anyone have experience w/ this swap? also i can return the cdi, and purchase a more direct fit, if anyone knows of a reliable part. this scoot is too much fun to have laid up. thanks in advance...&happy trails     zombie

What does the wiring diagram look like?  I might be able to help decipher it so that you get it all hooked up correctly.

I put a CDI in a Tomos scooter today, turned the key and tried to start it and the CDI popped and started smoking!  It didn't like that unit at all... put a Kymco CDI in it, and the bike ran fine.  Weird... I'm sure the wiring was set up differently.  Shame though, I ruined a perfectly good brand-new CDI box doing that.

thanks guys, sorry for not checking the forum sooner but other projects have taken precidence. I found you can order "custom tuned cdi boxes direct from SUITAI. they manufacture the kymco box. The fact.U.S. version is limited to 8,000 rpm w/ a very mild advance curve.8 degrees at 4,500 rpm. I had my box tuned to 13,000 rpm w/ 8 deg. at 3000-4500, 10d. at 4500-8000, 8 deg at 8000-13000. it did not change top end mph over a de-restricted box, but it has more pull/ quicker time getting there. the cdi cost 49.99, and shipping from tiawan was 9.50. took 15 days from order to install. again... thanks  P.s.  use ONLY hi-test fuel w/ this timing change

Good luck, hasn't been around in a while. I am not sure where, but he did post a link. If you google it you will find their site. I have emailed them twice, no response.
I beleive the tzr is made by ruima not sutai.
