Title: Faulty Headlight Controllers

I talked to J Wofford today about Kymco's headlight controllers going bad on their bikes. He said he will investigate. I have replaced my headlight controller once on my 2007 People S 250 a couple months ago and it is already acting up. If anyone has any headlight controllers issue please chime in in this thread. Thanks and I will update you all with Kymco's response.

Over the past 4 or so years here I have seen several dozen post relating to the controllers burning out. They all appear to be in the lower wattage/amperage stator bikes too.

I have a big problem with the headlight controller in my Super 8. Actually, it's not the controller itself but the idea of having a controller. The lights are supposed to get dim once the scoot is in idle to save some electricity assuming you're at a stop light.  But my problem is that it places me and similar others in great danger. On my way home at night, I pass at declining roads and in doing so, the engine, of course, is in idle because I just go free-wheel down hill and some turns. So when this happens at night, the headlight dims and I can't see a darn thing. More dangerous when it's raining. I was thinking Kymco would devise a by-pass switch for this controller so riders can choose if he needs it or not. I'll wait for a response. TIA.

I see how that causes a problem Vivo. Unfortunately the only way around the headlight dimming as you coast downhill is to bypass it. Which is something I plan on doing in my People S 250.
Joe Wofford basically said he doesnt believe the People S 250 headlight controllers are bad due to "only" 49 being shipped over 5 years of production. He even admitted that that is 10 more units then he thought it would be. He said: "My suggestion is to get the new module, but check you system to make sure your main harness ground is secure and that the contacts in your light switches are clean and making good contact.  A bad ground or bad connections can cause some damage to the module."

I just added a super bright led projector fog light to aid night visibility. I don't want to by-pass the module yet.
