If any body can give me some pointers, it must happened to a lot of people. I am new to scooters but I am mechanically inclined and have the tools. I downloaded the manual. The engine will run but when I try to accelerate to take off it dies, in fact it dies at the minumun effort to accelerate.
thank you in advance for your time.

Did you drop it on the left or right side?
Left side is the CVT, which would make sense if knocked something loose in there. Right side has the exhaust, which if the exhaust pipe got bent badly enough...well, you can probably figure that one out.

I would start checking at the airbox and work back to the carburetor checking to see if something got displaced in the drop or is stuck. If that is ok I would start tracing the fuel line to see if it feeds ok. Don't know what if any kind of pickup is in the that could have displaced and caused a kink. Really sounds as if it is not getting enough fuel.
And as Honker says see if something displaced in the CVT and is killing the engine when you try to throttle up. Pull the cover and watch variator and clutch as you try to throttle.
I know the X500 has a shut off if you tilt it too far. Many bike do that. If it is a fuel shut off find that and check it.
Good luck

When tipped, fuel can work its way into the emission control system, causing starting problems. Its effect is similar to overfilling the tank. My scoot was shipped with a "do not overfill" warning sticker describing the resultant starting problems.
