Title: How long at WOT
Post by: 08087 on May 23, 2012, 09:17:45 PM
I run a boat and WOT is nothing for 10, 20, 30 min at a time, on a smaller outboard 10-15 HP you can run them at WOT all day long without thinking about it.

I ask because I was running my Kymco s200 Peoples at WOT for about 1 min, hit just under 60 on the speedo but the eng seemed stressed, not solid as I had come to expect with a quality outboard.

Granted a good outboard motor in the 10-15 hp range will run you 2K + just for the motor so mabey the quality is suffering a little in the scoot. As soon as I backed off a couple of MPH the eng seemed to find a nice comfortable sound and never missed a beat.

thoughts?

Quality of components! One O/B piston cost as much as your engine cases. The biggest issue is the O?B is designed to run WOT forever. The scoot is designed to run 1/2 throttle for most of ever. Apples, and oranges...

Zombie is right. As well Kymco scooters are made to identify when the rpm's are getting to high and will adjust so as not to do any damage. If you add some mods  you will be able to hit and sustain the 60mph for about as long as you'd need to.

Thanks guys, don't plan on running her WOT much at all, just took a dry run to my road test site so I know where to go and how to get there by scoot and I have to hit this highway for about a 1 mile stint. The limit on the HW is 55 MPH but you know they are pushing 65 often so I opened her up so I don't get crushed.

My normal commute to work will be 6 miles of 45 MPH max rides with most of it being 25-35 mph zones.

Thanks again!

This is also my plan for my 4t s8 (20% WOTs per day and 25-35mph rides). I have to get a 2t for  wooting...

But since there are no 2t Kymcos here, I'll settle for an alternative.
