Title: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: thebatman on May 19, 2012, 11:07:03 PM
What's up guys?
A cpl of you have already had a preview of this scoot. Others may remember a few weeks back when i posted a vid of a running engine that kept dying out. This scooter is that engine.
This has been a LONG-TERM project for me. A HARD-CORE budget build. It has probably taken me a YEAR just to get her to this point. Of course if the parts were bouoght new, then i could have had her a long time ago. I happen to not be able to do such things.  :'( A hazzard of being a broke azz nigga in the hills of WNC.
In my mind i always wanted to have 2 L.C Super 9's and of course 2 ZX's then i'd be satisfied and happy.. Well, of course have ALL 4 RUNNING at the SAME time!!  ::)
This thread will show the birth and start of life for 1 of those L.C S 9's. She still has a long way to go but it dam sure isn't as far away as it has been.
I have a sh** load of pics, alot are "showing it off" type sh**.
I am going to leave this one OEM....for the majority.
I have struggled with a name for her.... @ 1st i was thinking "Plum Crazy"...."Purple Passion".
I dig the name "Purple Haze"....(i hope she ends up being a blur going down the rd, "it was just a purple haze ociffer".  ;D)
 "Purple Haze...all in my brain....lately things..just don't seem the same.--Acting funny and i dont know why......scuse me....while i kiss the sky".....
Of course if you went with a shorter 1 word name....."violet"...even tho it's "rich plum"..(which would keep in line with "lil red", the zx)...input????..... I have had several votes for "Purple Haze" already BTW..
I will try and tune her in better. Try and copy Nina's set-up as much as i can.  ;D  :-X
I do hope to get loads of input from you guys. (got the idea of needing a complete rebuild a cpl weeks ago.  ;))
It will probably take me a bit to upload some pics of her beginning but imma working on it now.
Thanks for looking/reading and any input.... Here come pics............

Before any new life began, the 1st death had to be accepted. Here we have 2 scooter deaths and left with a skeleton of what remains of 2 seperate Kymco Super 9's.
The frame on the blocks is a '07 A.C. frame
The bent frame is a '04 L.C. frame

See how desparate some can get to have a wish of 2 L.C. S9's....
Talk about starting from stratch.  ::)

I did not have any plastic so i was gonna runa naked scoot. I wanted some Kawasaki green but didnt find any to my liking. Decided agasinst Canary Yellow, red, etc. and finally decided to go with "Rich Plum" for my color... Thought plum/silver/and a touch of black.
Got the frame painted, got a front end on it

I took the '07 frame and installed any of the '04 parts that were any good. Had $50 in both frames
Got me a '04 engine with about 15,000KMS for $150
Finally did get engine to start, leaking base gasket as well...

Found a set of bent A.C bars but traded them for some bent L.C. bars..(the ac bars dont have the thread for the oem bar-end weights on the handlebars)

Cleaned and painted the engine... Had to rebuild the water-pump, installed new gaskets. Cleaned the bore up a lil bit. cleaned out the cvt parts

I got the other wheel painted along with a rear fender and installed on the engine as well.
I happened to have a technigas next-r pipe. That was a blessing since i didn't have one at all. I painted it to match as well..

Then comes time to finally install the engine on the frame..
Didn't have the swingarm to bolt it down but at least i could mount the engine.. I finally did find a swingarm and mounted it and the silver rear brake caliper...(never seen a s9 witha  silver caliper at all, always been red... come to find out this caliper looks just like the ppl front caliper.... maybe it was at one point... :-\)

Of course after this point she sat for a lil while..
Then a cpl weeks ago i posted the vid of the sh**ty sounding engine....
Tore it DOWN. Installed new bearings, new seals, new piston kit, cleaned bore.
For this i was able to use my brand new tool...The "Tusk" crank installer and a scooter flywheel puller...
HOW DID I LIVE W/O THESE 2 TOOLS??????????
Along with the new full rebuild, i done the cases a matte black as well and got rid of the bright cases...

Now came time to RE-install the NEW RE-build....
Thank the lord i actually had a set of "Naraku" bearings and seals to even do this rebuild again. I had bought them long ago but never did use them, they finally came in handy.  :P

Today while i was getting the panels ready for install i took her for a teast ride.
Take-off was great, she fell out of the power-band. shot down to like 6g's. I had 7g rollers, went to 6.5's...
At the moment she has oem var--oem clutch--Malossi green contra w/5g rollers(actually 30.6 gram).
Take-off lags now but she stays in the band..
I have a Malossi purple contra, should have some clutch springs to swap. The hills seem good right now. she kept a good 8g's going up the hill i did

The carb is off of course..
Has the OEM 82mj--35pj, mix @ 1 out, stock air-box.
She is rich for some reason... Yes Word i thought about you and checked the oil pump setting.. :D
I have a pipe on it, you would think it would lighten the plug, not be that rich OEM for sure.
I cut open the plug to really see it. Showed it to WORD earlier as well. HEre is that plug.....

Looks pretty rich for OEM huh?..(the mix was @ 1-1/2 at the pic time)
This could/maybe/possibly explain bit of the lagging i do feel. Maybe she getting TOOO rich and lagging.
I was nervous about the jetting since word is at a 117 atm.(oem is 82) My jets are always smaller than his of course since i am at a 2225 ft above sea level.

I never can remember about the direction of a fuel screw. WORD did advise me today that it is clock-wise to lean.. I may NEED to install the open filter so it will lean out a bit.
SOOOOO odd that word was getting odd readings with the next-r pipe and this sh** is to rich..

Let's get some feed-back and get this thread popping.  :D
Thanks guys.......

YES i will finally stop posting and shut the fk up.  :D  ;)  :-X  :-X  :-X  .........  :-\

Congratufriggin' lations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah Brother!
I like the name Blurple... Got's the blue/purple covered! It does sound rich at idle but it may indeed be lean. You're plug may be too cold. Which side of the carb is the mix screw on? Air box or engine. Engine side is for a fuel screw, and clockwise is leaner... Air box side is an air screw, and clockwise is richer. We'll get it sorted out in no time Bro!

THANK YOU ZOMBIE....
Maybe i can get my bone yard in order. Get me some handle bars for the ag and i can have a spare scoot again..  :D
Fkn suppose to have MANY spares.  >:(   :'(

The plug is a br8hsa
yeah, it has the fuel screw and set at 1. plug still black. Have not done any WOT chops of course.. Only have about 20 miles on the engine so far.
I did hit WOT for a short burst today. I have done 8? good heat cycles, rode the driveway.
Took it to the store this evening. DAM, I MISS MY 2t's... :D Got used to being slower on the ag i guess.... ::)
She doesn't perform like Nina is but seems to be real good especially for an oem.. The L.C. S9's did produce 5.7hp, which is great for an oem scoot.
Gotta be close with the rollers.
The initial take-off lags a bit now.
I did find an UN-restricted T.D. and installed with that green spring. those things just seem so soft to me, softer than white dam near
I'm hoping to be able to ride this to school next week. The summer semester starts

..just throwing this out there...

..the kymco s9 service manual calls the fuel mix screw the "air" screw....

..yes, clockwise on this screw, the "air/fuel mix screw" does make sh** lean...lol..

...just so nobody gets confused with that...

She doesn't perform like Nina

..nina hassa practically new engine, bro...

..and i'm gonna swear by the free-flow air filter...

..it jacked my a50s, ppls and it jacks the s9 as well...

Well Nina has lower miles but she gots the cvt hook-up... ;)

HEY, this engine is about new now..  :D
Got 110-120lbs comp too... 8)

Oh, i like the free-flow filters myself.
Did have the oem box on my s9 tho. dam sure helped in rain.. :D
I still have the open filter from my s9, gonna check it out... PLUS them filter help that sweet sound. ;) 8)

...i had to mod my needle retainer in nina's oem carb, in order to raise the needle, when i installed the filter...

..ran lean thru mid throttle before that....

OOOHHHH Hellllll.... is anybody else hearing those bubbles pop?....  ;D

I did wonder one time today about this one being lean as to the lag.
She has a slck ass shift too.. you can feel it going into "2nd". seems to sliiiide into 2nd????
loses a bit of rpm then but will pick it up. Can feel the torque you speak of in your thread. 1/2 throttle, hit the throttle you can feel more power not just hear the carb.........at this point anyway but to fix the take-off lag and shift it may disappear on me.  ::)
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: wordslinger on May 20, 2012, 02:02:10 AM
..the shift could be slightly heavy rollers...

..dunno about your pipe setup, but i HAD TO raise the oem carb's needle with the filter...

Wow, still heavy with 5's... wow.. I cant dam remember how the shift was with the 4.5's.. seems to rev a tad much

That engine is way more efficient than the zx cases so it will need leaner jetting. Just go the next size down, and should have that nailed. Plus like you stated you are @ 2,200 ft. You got this one...
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: thebatman on May 20, 2012, 11:01:00 PM
What's really going on guys?
This a.m i went and installed an open air filter on the Haze. She did not like that at all.  :'(
She bogged down good, wanted to die of kindof. I had the mix screw all over the place, to 3 out, hoping it would correct but wouldn't. I guess that means she is to lean with the open filter. I would have thought i had PLENTY of room to lean out.
I re-installed the box and took her out past my lil 1 red-light town on a real maiden voyage..
I did keep the throttle between 1/2-3/4.... for the most part. I did have a spurt to try it.
At 1/4 throttle she seems to "spit" to much.
I had no problem hitting 10g's with no more than 3/4 as well. I made 2 short vids of pieces of the action.  ::)  ;D
I was way impressed with the "OEM" S9. When i done my black s9 it went straight to a used kit.
The cvt isn't right. Wants to drop "gear" at take-off but quickly hits it, has a loooooong, strong, and pulling "2nd"..... when she hits "3rd" there is a slack lag down to about 8g's then back up. The pipe seems to be around 8200ISH. NO problem hitting a 53? indicated today. I put just a hair over 100kms today on her..... Of course i have a BUNCH of hills around here too  ::)  >:(....She had no problem staying in the band with 1/2 throttle.
She has to be close... HAS TO BE..... Where is the key??????

I know now that the A.C. frame is 18mm lower, 6mm narrower, and 6mm longer than the L.C. frame. You can tell the difference between the 2. Had no idea till after i got her put together.
Of course i took a cpl more pics today as well on the 1st ride out. ::)

Get the carb dialed...then deal with the cvt.  When the cvt is right you shouldn't really feel it "shift".  It should basically hold it rpm (in the powerband) from take off through the cvt until it has maxed out...then the rpm will rise as it accelerates up to the engines max.  I'm running the Next pipe and the powerband seems about 7500.  Mine holds 7500 rpm up to about 55 mph when the rpm's will climb to low to mid 8's with a max speed up to maybe 60 or a little more.  Typically my max rpm on my TTO is 8160.  If I slam the throttle from a stop my rpms stay pretty steady in the mid 7's until about 55 mph.  That's right where I want it, as that's where the pipe makes the most power.  Keep in mind I have reduction gears so my cvt setup will be different.  I'm currently running a Multivar w/ 9g Malossi rollers, oem belt, oem torque drive, Motorio clutch w/ 1500 flys, oem bell, and 1500 contra w/ NCY bearing torsion controller.  I can run about 45 mph at 1/4 throttle or so at 6 - 6500 rpm (clutch just engaged), wrap the throttle open ( jump into the powerband) and nearly pull the front wheel up.  Only thing keeping it down is the upgears and weighting forward.  ;D

I'm hoping to get the carb dialed.  ::)
At least it's rich.  :D... If i am correct, i used like 1.5g of gas to hit those 100-105kms.(the tank is a 1.9g.......or should be anyway ;)) Seems a bit much for oem. seems like the mpg i was getting with the arreche 19mm and a kit :o
I have no idea what that would convert to in mpg. ::)

IDK if i like the Malossi green contra.  :-\  ::).........or the dang purple one...(may need to try it again in this engine)
I know the flys are worn on the clutch.(i could pull the shoes out with my fingers). It does have a worn belt. I should have measured it then checked with word cuz im sure he has measured by now.. :D
I should have the springs to help out tho ;)

That is quite a bit of fuel.  The conversion between miles and kms is ~.65.  I belive the green spring is barely above the white...~1200?  I've got the yellow with the NCY bearing thing that further compresses/preloads it.  I still get a "chirp" out of the cvt when I throttle it hard...I'm not sure if it's the belt or the clutch or what???  I know I need a new clutch bell at some point as mine is pretty worn.  Definitely get some new fly springs if you can pull the shoes by hand!  That is most likely at least one piece of your cvt tuning puzzle.

Try Just the stiffer Contra to get rid of the "shift" feeling. That is your rollers pulling the TD open that you feel. A stiffer spring will delay that feeling, and get you better take off by holding the gear longer.

I would agree...try that violet contra plus maybe just slightly heavier rollers.

You just have to be your own machine shop.  Do you have a drill press?  All you need to fix your cvt.  Find a collar or insert of some sort thats inner diameter fits the gear.  Measure the OD of said collar.  Mount the case perfectly perpendicular on the drill press (check, double check, triple check, check again).  Use a new, sharp drill bit and bore the hole oversize.  Carefully...whack that sh!t in there with some green, press-fit, loctite and call it good.  ;D

It will help to grind off the point from your drill bits. That is if you are going to drill out the boss for a collar. Leave just the cutting edge to get the hole, and do it in 3-4 steps so you really can't mess it up. I use wet sand bags for odd shaped stuff with a level across the top surface. You can bed your part in the sand bag, and it will stay pretty well. Just go easy like a surgeon.

Hey guys, I had a small issue. The water-pump started leaking on me OMW home. I was creeping her ass home.... Luckily i had the w-p from my black S9. Installed that one and changed the cvt.  :-[

I wasn't thinking about it before but i happened to have 2 different belts and went to measure. I can 2nd  THE Word man's post and pics.  ;)
A gates 748x18x28
OEM Bando belt.......Gates IS longer....
I never knew....or paid attention..
I changed the cvt.. Installed an Motrio clutch w/stiff ass flys, Malossi Violet contra w/unrestricted pulley, OEM var. w/LV 5.7g rollers, AND the Gates bel..(used of course)
She revved to 7-8g's BEFORE it would even move. VERY revvy Wouldn't even cross the LR floor with out being at 8g's +... I had asked an opinion  ;) and was stated it was the belt, swap contra out, then see.
I was thinking the flys but i dont know, that's why i asked.  :D
Here is the belt travel i was getting with the looser set-up..........
Not bad but dam sure not great.
Both of the belts i have measure JUST UNDER 17mm.(1's like 16.6..then 16.8)... The drive boss is 38.10mm... The belts may be reaching their limit at this point if they suppose to be 18mm..  :D
I hadn't gotten the chance today to mess with it. Had school today, rained yesterday and today AND suppose to rain tomorrow.  >:(
Going to change contra. (happen to have a slightly used NCY 1500)... May need some 6.5g's,  ???  :-\
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: zombie on May 23, 2012, 11:23:03 PM
The high rev's are the fly springs. And I do believe the belt is too worn for full travel. Id leave the contra till you sort out the flys. Then you will see better what the contra is doing
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: wordslinger on May 24, 2012, 12:01:06 AM
..i believe the contra to be the determining factor of how to set everything else up in the cvt....

Post by: zombie on May 24, 2012, 04:31:07 AM
That is the deciding factor.
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: thebatman on May 24, 2012, 09:08:43 PM
What up guys?....
Well, needless to say the cvt has fkn dumbfounded me..

Zombie may have been on to something with those flys... I swapped everything around....Still had a nasty high rev to move.. Tried green contra, purple, and yellow.. Tried 4.5g-6.5g rollers
Settled back to the oem clutch w/Jasil 1500 flys.(still f'n stiff)
Malossi Violet contra w/un-restricted pulley
Bando belt w/4.5g rollers....
I cant tell if they are a tad TOOO light or not. Dam sure shifts smoother than w/5.1g's. Holds rpms' better w/o falling totally out the band.
Belt still didn't arrive at the TOP of the var. Same spot as before.. Could that be the 16.6-.7mm belt width----instead of 18mm when new?...(seen in pic it doesn't lack much ::))
OR IS IT still in the tuning?
I wanna try the gates belt since that's the belt i was using in the black S9.  ???
Maybe i should try it again since i used oem clutch again???????????
Seemed like it was SLLLOOOWWWER at take-off with the gates....
Maybe i shouldn't fine tune.  ;)

I really don't understand how an OEM carb w/OEM box w/OEM jets can be rich.....at all... But if i install the open filter she'll bog down hard
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: thebatman on May 24, 2012, 10:24:51 PM
WHOA....... :o
Just thought about something....

If these belts are 18mm wide and mine reads @ 16.6..

This belt only has right at 6500 KMS on it..  :o  :-[
In my defense, the engine was built...

Dam, my tuning sux. That's a lot of wear for so few miles..
This is the gates 748x18x28 belt.....

..i believe you need more hp to run that belt...and a stiffer contra....

I went back to it...
I had to swap clutches again.  :-\
The oem clutch with the Jasil fltys gave me a 6200+ stall.. Bitch would not even consider moving till then. Thats way to much IMO.... THEN i couldn't get the flys back OFF..  :-X
Swapped an old clutch with old flys.

I went back and installed the Gates belt with the weaker set-up.... not bad..
Changed to 4.5g's... a Lot better, held the rpm on hills as well..... Continuious(for the most part) 9g taching.... did seem a hair to revvy sounding... swapped back to 5.1g.. The bitch falls out the band again... some 4.75 woiuld be nice i think.   I ain'ts gots me none of dem boss... :'(
I can get her close but then i install a stiffer contra and all fkn hell breaks loose.  :-[  ???   ::)
I think i'll try the Gates tommorrow and just keep the 5.1's that knock her down..

A stiffer contra acts similar to lightening the rollers.  If you put a stiffer contra in...increase to roller weight to compensate.

Ok, one more round guys....... ::)

I went out yesterday a.m. and tried one more time..
I installed the NCY 1500...the Gates 748x18x28 (used)
38.10mm boss...oem var w/5.7g rollers
I had the 5.1 in and tyake-off seemed fkn great.. I THOUGHT it was a tad to revvy at TOP, so i installed the 5.7 thinking it'd be ok. The 5.7g falls out of the band pretty easy. take-off is crap again for the initial second then BAM...
I seem to have lost my 3 5g from my tuning kit  >:(
Kind-of stuck atm w/o any other rollers... ::) >:( >:(
I think 5.25-5.5 max would be the ticket here.....
OF COURSE, all that would change with a good jetting.........

I have an idea i wanna run by for opinions.....
IF you was gonna do a engine swap, would you choose the project ride or the more complete, "nicer" ride???????????

Well, i'm having a awesome idea. I just sold/swapped that marshin scoot with the mina engine. Got my $ back and a 150 gy6.  ;)
I have this purple haze that i'm working on but as you seen in the pics she still has the whole front to go, plus other pieces. She is the long-term deal...
I have my Black S9 that was kitted. plastics, etc. are in great shape......no engine

Would you use the nicer, complete black frame
OR
the long-term project for the 150 swap?
I originally thought i'd use the black S9, but now im thinking of using the purple since it's less whole
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: zombie on May 29, 2012, 10:46:18 PM
Gottcha!
I would figure which one had more value as a "restored" scoot. I assume that would be the LC S9. That is the one I would keep as cherry, and original as possible. The other frame is a good choice for spares, and a great KICK ASS project bike.
I would look for a junkyard scoot frame to build up a Ruk style cruiser. (did that). The 9's are too complete, and sought after to butcher IMHO.

Guess what?..
...I'm back with another round of wth.. :D
This carb is oem. The cylinder, seals, etc. is freshly rebuilt oem
Oem Jets
Airbox
Mix @ 1 out
I do have the next-r pipe on it AND the plugs are this black
I have fouled (as of today) 3 plugs and they all are BLACK. Check this out,
(http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff435/therealbat/DOA%20LC%20Kymco%20S9/0485bb85.jpg)

This one it looks like i have to much light, it's pretty darn black
Today i actually fouled the newest plug AND started fouling out a used plug OMW home.
I just think it is so crazy wild of this and WORDS Nina's difference on the pipe.
My oil index is correct. The pipe should have leaned it SOME anyway  :D, not RICHENED to the point of fouling plugs. I installed the open filter and it leaned it so bad i couldn't hardly move, box back on and she was fine. Runs like a M.F.. ;D  :D  8)
Of course not the speed of Nina.. Way off that target range.. :D

ANY ideas WHY it would be, COULD BE, rich?
MAybe hotter? Out of fluid?....nope, i can touch and tank is full
Maybe the 8 plug? need a 9?.. Wouldn't a 9 make it even richer to foul plugs since it can't burn as hot?
I think word is now using a 9 series plug
Word recently had a sputter up to 1/4 as well. I did take the mix down OMW home this eve to 1/2 OUT. I am nervous going below 1 on any.. :D BUt IT STILL was spitting, sputtering. If it wasnt 1/2 + throttle, she sputtered

I still forget which side your mix screw is on... You are DEF. rich but why!?!.
If the screw is on the engine side, and you are almost closed it is showing the Pilot jet is too rich. Try 1-2 sizes smaller on the pilot. Most likely 2 sizes.

The oem pj being to big?
Yeah, these have a fuel mix screw (intake side)
TBH, i actually rode 1 mile with it completely closed W/O realizing till the red-light.. She was a lot better too.  ???  ??? That scared the sh** out of me but then i was like wth, it was a bit better then..

Oh yeah, Word made me have a brain fart........ ::)

I absolutely believe the OEM jet is too big. Have you up jetted the Main? That could be bleeding over to the PJ, and giving that result. Also a bigger pipe is ALWAYS better. They only rate them so you don't go too small. Your bikes like that 9k rpm, and the Next falls off at 7k.

Nope, the mj is oem as well..
This next pipe dont fall at 7k.. ;) The rpms stay at 8k +..
I actually wanted to vid this today but i couldn't. For some reason at different points my rpms will continue to climb but the speed remains 51-53. I WOULD SWEAR THAT I WAS READING A GOOD 12K 2 SEPERATE TIMES AGAIN TODAY. ON LEVEL GROUND...
Dam, i have a rs-2 pipe... :o

I need one but i gotta have jets.  :'(

I thought you had a Next pipe. The RS II is rated at 8500. That doesn't mean no more revs... It means no more power from the pipe. The pipe makes the Most power at 8500.
The only other ways you could be running so rich are clogged air box, bad float level, or a clogged pipe/silencer.
Maybe try it one time w/o the silencer. Or cut a few holes in the Air box. You can always seal the holes. Maybe one 1" hole at a time so as Not to pass up the jets you have.

A silencer? WOW.. I would have thought they wouldn't run if that was clogged..
CAN richness be associated with any electrical issue?......at all?
My batt went dead after a cpl days, charged it. Was fine.... for a cpl more days.
Yesterday when i tried my horn, you could actually FEEL a "power loss?" when pressing the button. Horn very weak anyway.
My front brake switch would kill the engine when pressed....everytime... I was like WTH?...unplugged it and it stopped.
I have NO front on this thing. the turn signals aren't working cuz i haven't gotten the front plugged in so i know it's not my H.L or front turns... :D

OH sh**, I forgot the most important part........
The L.C S9 is a D.C. fired and won't fire w/o a good battery in the box and of course the brake switch pressed.
My black one and another wouldn't for sure all kymco's need the switch pressed.....
Haze WILL start...No brake switch, dead ass battery. Kicks right up.
Can anyone explain THAT part?.. :o  :-\

Well, it's 11:30 here now and i had went and placed the nose from the black s9 on Haze to verify my lights, switches....... Nothing.. OH, I did get the "passing" light...No Hi, No Lo beam, and no tail light.
I KNOW the lights work... They were on my black s9 and i dam sure rode in the dark (brake light works now, i plugged the front switch back in)Turns won't work unless all 4 are hooked up.
I did find a loose ground wire attaching under the voltage regulator. Charging battery now, hope that'll help now.

I hate electrical...... >:(
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: zombie on June 08, 2012, 12:36:56 AM
You found both issues I would have suggested. Either the regulator is fried, or a bad engine/chassis ground. Maybe from the new paint insulating your grounds... The DC fired scoot Cannot start without a battery/charge. The bat is what fires the cdi. so if your regulator is shot there will be no charge to fire the scoot. I would chase ALL the grounds on the frame/engine, and sandpaper under the bolts to get shiny new metal. You can always spray paint over it after attaching your grounds to prevent oxidation.

Well after re-tightening and re-arranging that groung wire AND
Re-re-adjusting the oil feed (for gp)
Taking mix to 1/2 out
Another plug
she ran a lot better today. Seemed a tad slower but it is a tad windy
I THINK i may have some clutch slippage?????
(rpms are up there but not as fast as it was and then you feel it "catch"/maybe fully engage??
Seems like it's more whiny then you can feel the "catch" of 2nd)... could actually feel it
That would be the flys, correct?...the flys are worn...(of course the belt is worn as well)

I had ordered a pen and did one tire on the ag. I send Word a pic. I LOVE this look.. Imma do all the tires...check this....

What up guys?..
Yeah them painted letters change the whole look. REAL dam easy to go outside the lines though.

Well, i was having some cvt isssues the other day. Changed it around. Luckily i had received a new Bando OEM belt.
Bando belt....Naraku 5.2g rollers w/oem var
OEM clutch(again) w/worn out NCY 2000?(red)
My stall sux ass. I have none now. The 1st 20-30ft is crap now, BUT the mid felt a bit better and the top was 5-6MPH FASTER.. WTF...WTF...
It shouldn't be possible, IDT.... A shorter belt, UP .1 on the rollers shouldn't net a mph increase should it?????
I did make a crappy 1 handed vid yesterday but didnt get it up-loaded last night..
Well several actaully... A 15sec for pic messages and a 1-1/2min for a top shot....
Maybe my instrument cluster about to go...(think it came off a '02)
I finally have an update for Blacky.  ;D
AND a small update for Lil Red. 8)
The whole family will breathe TOGETHER again..  ;D  ;)

This is an example of what i mean WTH...
A SHORTER belt, .1 heavier on the roller
You can see the rpm are lower in the vid with a higher top.... WTH?????
I took 2 other vids of the ride back home. My skills suck tho. Of course that was with my cell phone and not a real device. ::) 1 vid is about this length and the other is about 2 minutes. My ride on some of the back rds i have to take.

IDK WHY every time i post a vid that it does this double crap instead of just the reg vid shot as on the top.
Any ideas??  Well nobody uses photobucket but me i think. Maybe i copy the wrong link?????

I did install some worn NCY red 2000? flys and knowing my luck it's the flys. I have stiff ones and will be to much....plus me even getting them on. :P
My decent clutch(to me anyway :D) gave it to much stall and had high revs before movement.

Nothing to add really, but enjoyed reading the thread.I'm currently trying to tune,my CVT as well and the info here is interesting. It got me to thinking I may need a new clutch (OEM 20,000 kilimeters or so).mine has a weird lag off line somewhat and then it hit the powerband and rockets away hard.I put in the jasil red spring awhile back, but I'm thinking I could go to the next one up.I got my Green Mallossi spring and it was actually softer than the one I had.So I put the silver one back in (unsure what rpm or brand it is).I also installed a brand new OEM belt a couple days ago before doing anything else and it had higher top end at it did it at lower rpm,but the midrange and low end suffered badly. Not sure if a stiiffer contra would fix that or rollers...or both.Dang I'm confused now.I also think I may need to repack the pipe (technigas next-r),it's been on the bike almost two years now.Anyone know the recommened mileage they should be repacked at? The bike is driven at least 15 miles daily.
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: zombie on July 07, 2012, 06:23:25 AM
Loads of stuff... Get a stiffer contra. That may hold the lower gear longer for you. Lighter rollers are a maybe if you get the spring... Definite if you don't'.
The brand/type oil you use determines the time between repacking. 6 months is a LONG time for packing with cheap oil. If you can take the noise just remove it. The pipe revs higher without it. 500-1k rpm depending on your set up/bike
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: dont_tread_on_me on July 08, 2012, 12:52:53 AM
I have a bunch of stuff on order (springs, rollers etc) and hopefully that will allow me to tune a bit.I repacked it last night and it seems to rev a bit higher. It was pretty nasty and it was a royal bitch to seperate the outer shell from the middle section.I know my rollers are flat spotted which is part of the problem, and I'm thinking this may resolve most of my issues. It's not bad,it revs great,it's just when it hits a hills it need sto "downshift" more.I'm hoping the Malossi yellow is stiffer than this green one.....anyone want to buy it,brand new only ran like two miles and switched back out.
I thought removing all the packng would create a no backpressure problem and the engine not run properly or need to be tuned etc? I'm not much of an engine guy so I really hate to mess with trying to jet or anything, although I'm sure It could help me alot.As far as oil I use Maxima Premium 2,it's a pretty descent synthetic and it's all I've ever used in it.It's uppossed to burn really clean which is maybe why i went so long without repacking.
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain

No packing creates a faster stronger pulse in the pipe. It Could lean you just a bit. You should be able to compensate for that with the Idle mix screw.

Does anyone know if the yellow malossi contra is stiffer than the green one?
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: Peters on July 08, 2012, 01:52:49 AM
I believe malossi goes green, yellow, then red. 1000, 1500, and 2000. So yes.

Some 1000s are blue some are green. Malossi variator comes with a white one. I have no Idea what that is.

There is a chart somewhere on the web for the Malossi colors... Stiffest to lightest... Red/Blue/violet/green   Full race/2000/1500/1000  The yellow, and white are weaker than the OEM springs. They are for tuning a stock scoot to entry level modifications. If the yellow has no real effect try the violet.

From what I have seen/read the yellow is a 1500 rpm spring.Hopefully it is and I'm not out another 12 bucks.

The yellow is listed as  "super reinforced" also....not sure wtf that means but I guess I'll find out
Title: Re: Purple Haze....all in my brain
Post by: zombie on July 08, 2012, 03:27:04 AM
The yellow is an included spring with some Var kits. I had one in the ZX. It is taller than oem but takes less force to compress than the oem. The Yellow took 42psi to compress fully, and the oem took 44. The green Malossi takes 45, thru to 85 for the red malossi. I'd return the yellow, and get violet/blue.

That's one of the best things you can do. I removed a 4" hole over the clutch bell, and plan some slotting over the Var.

The engine case going back to the rear wheel is a simple box but Only when the cover is on. Without the cover the rear end will fail. I may take a pot hole, or a curb but it will fail.

IDK WTF it is with these dam C-clips.... :'(
Yep, the clip came out.........

I have some pics I'll post in a bit but i have been trying some "Honkey-Hook-ups". I may have her back running... I happened to find my old piston from the zx before she was built. HOPING i can hone out the stratches. LUCKILY the wrist-pin did NOT come out this time(that causes NASTY damage...trust me... ;))
I'm so fkn broke this summer....If it cost a nickel to get around the world........I couldnt get out of sight.. I still needs some gaskets to get the black one repaired..

HEY Z, I gotta perfect engine for YOU to try another project for the z......
I wanted to use the engine myself but i never have the funds to incorporate it.. There is a PARTIAL engine on E-bay right now for $440.......A NH-125..... Figure I'll clean the carb, get her running again and post that engine on CL before it rots in my possesion

Cool Frigin O! I stopped using "c" clips that have the small tang to grab onto. I use ONLY the pure C shaped ones now. How did the piston heights match up? How about Cyl. wall clearance? .003" is the Maximum clearance you would want. Above that you may get alot of blow by. Your spell of sh** luck HAS to end here. Glad you're up, and running again Bro!

OH, but of course.....here HER tell it.....this is her 1st time... WTFE.
1st time women don't wanna fk AT THEIR HOME. That would be the last place. I was starting to dig this chick pretty good but had to remember that them women don't ever leave home.
LUCKILY, those fam members aren't AS TIGHT as once before. WHICH of course i have not got the complete scoop as to WTF either.. That's some true A*@ words right there.

It was a C clip. IDK WTF...She had been running fine, 2500 later.
I thought I had blown a tire. I heard this SPEW like sound.....like opening that 1st cold beer sound. Tommy heard it too, he thought I ran over a wire.. Pulled over, it idled a min and died. I was thinking since it wasn't the tire, maybe the W.P. went. Tore it apart and found what hopefully showed in the pics.
I never checked wall clearance but with my raggedy ass comp tester i was showing 110psi. I have even thought it was a low reading tester by 20psi but maybe it isn't off that bad like i thought

Your spell of sh** luck HAS to end here. Glad you're up, and running again Bro!

I can fkn hope so.. I know i had 2... The old saying "it always comes in 3's"..My computer and then HAze.. IDK WTF it is with me and C-clips... My black S9 lost one after 6000kms

Hey guys,
What's really going on around here lately? I am waaaayyy f'n behind.
Sorry I've not been around. Been having some hella drama moments lately.
IDT it was the chick tho for the last drama issue, I had basically nipped that one in the bud shortly after. We had a cpl arguments and I was like fk this, WTH is going on? To many unanswered ? regarding a few things. Once I noticed one, the others stuck out like a sore thumb..... to me.... could be the paranoia too. Supposedly the reason for THIS soap is because my bud's father called me ON THE SHOP PHONE and I have been friends with Tommy. IDN believe it. FKN Hypocritacal Southern Baptist 2 -face mudda fuddas.

ANNNNYWAY,
What's up fellas?

Oh yeah, NH-125 engine     Don't they use a chain drive cvt? What year/how much?
Nope, It's a belt drive like normal. DAM near identical to a ZX engine just a 125cc.  ;)  ;D  :D
Kiehin PB18mm OEM carb (pretty sure)(seen 1 carb before for sale and it was f'n expensive) I know the carb is desirable anyway...lol. It's from a 1984 Honda Areo 125 w/5200kms, It's still in the frame hooked up. That way i could always just re-clean carb and fire off. I always wanted to do something to it and install under the Z but never had the funds to.......Imagine that sh** though right... >:(  :-[

The main difference between Baptists, and Catholics... Catholics got to church to get Fu(ked, Baptists stay home...

'84 areo???? That's like playing catch up all over again. Get it all modernized and still no power. It would make a cool grocery getter tho. I recently got  a Hyosung 150 for a donor engine. Runs but not well. Regular gy6 so parts are everywhere. I'm gonna hang onto it till I finish all this other stuff.

So what do you have running? Just Haze? You are getting your ass to Carrabelle RIGHT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Maybe a change of scenery/venue is what you need Bro!

OH, I had torn this one down cuz most of the plastic was missing and finding some plastic is a bitch. I wanted the 125 engine. Identical to the ZX and DIO engine.....well it's bigger cc tho...
I hear a on the donor engine. I had wanted to install a 150 under the black s9 but alignment, etc. stopped that since i have no shop to get fabbing done. Turns out that engine is a 180cc, not a 150.  ;D
Like I'll ever be able to repair that engine either  :'(

It looks like I am going to flunk my English class this semester. My final exam is an innovative report. I needed to have a 2nd reader to read, sign, email the form back. Things that go BUMP in the night.............

Soon I can get yet another piston kit for Haze and maybe she'll live again.......

IDK if you remember, I had blown the new piston after so many miles.
....Installed a used piston, 110lbs comp, 20 ft later she died....
I had missed a piece of metal when I attempted the flush and fkd that piston.....
.....Found a beat up piston, installed, only 88-90lbs comp.. She will run but the cvt is WAAAAAYYYYYY off and I was advised that the cvt could be from the low comp....
I didn't even mess with the cvt because of the low comp.....
...Will get a piston kit soon........ ??? ::)

I too am still learning..Always learning something...lol
It does make sense but other opinions are welcome..
Since the comp is low, it changes the power delivery to the cvt, rear wheel. the rpms will have to be higher to create the same power and try to gain the same torqe as with a good comp run....
I had the CVT dam close before she blew the piston and with the used beater piston, it felt like trying to take off in 3rd. It way sux now

Gotcha, power loss will change everything. You don't have the bottom end u used to, so adjustments need to be made. I was thrown off by the compression thing.
