I just finished building the Polini stroker for the zx. This one is the Corsa race jug at 47mm 72cc. I haven't done the math yet but with 4mm more stroke you all can fiqure the new cc's. Polini uses an aluminum base gasket so I replaced it with some soft 2.8mm stock to get a dead even deck, and a .5mm squish. This head has a 5.5mm squish band as well as a controlled combustion chamber design. Pretty cool looking head in my opinion. I know everyone will want to know the timings on the jug but I have no idea yet. I am using a Tech next pipe because of the low power band for now. I only want to break in the jug before I throw the good stuff at it.
I used my Ruima 44mm stuffed crank w/ new bearings, and some drastic case flow porting. This WAS an OEM case before today. I opened the intake completely (no bridge) and drilled the crank oilers/removed all the bracing at the top of the crank charge loop, and polished the top 1/2 of the case. The bottom is scotch brite finished to hold the oil down there. Boost port was cut, and the piston was skirted 3mm on each side to reduce spinning weight, as well as reduce drag.
I am using the CT intake with Boysen (0.030") reeds. I did something special here too. I drilled 4 1/4" holes in each of the four petals and covered the holes with 0.08" reed stock to make my version of 2 stage reeds. These are set into a CT stuffer. The carb is the 24mm OKO with as of right now unknown jetting. (I just forgot what's in it).
4 heat cycles, 2, 5 minute runs, and I rode it the 6 miles home from the shop. I NEVER went past 1/8th throttle. This case now has the unknown 8.3:1 secondary gears from my other case, and the Malossi primaries. It final drives at 7.1:1. The Malossi's are not as low as I wanted so I have some polini's ordered to get me to 6:1 final.
At 5,200 rpm 1/8th throttle I am cruising 45mph. The mph is from the clock, and the rpm is from a DMM with an inductive wire pick up. It is Slightly lean but ridable at low rpm. I have 2 boxes of jets to use after I cut/solder to find which jets to use for now.
The Scorpion pipe is in customs in Honolulu, and the MSD cdi is almost ready to ship. HGT is setting up a Malossi Rep. bike using the MSD to dial it in, and when he finishes this week it will be in the post. I will set up my OWN timing curves to elimenate the sustained hi heat from long wot runs. The New curves, and some crafty needle tapers WILL result in the forums first DOCUMENTED 80-90mph ZX. I have one of those Krazor phones so I can do a vid to back up this claim. This Won't be a wheelie popper but it will be a top end cruiser. Looking for 60 all day, 70 to pass, and 90 on the true 1/4mile. Since the gearing gets me 45 at 5200 I think this is doable. Haven't even come NEAR the pipes 7g's. If the Scorpion wont get it at 8500 the Windjammer will at 9500 with some minor port raising.
Wish me luck Bros! The next week end will tell. (or whenever I get the MSD) I'm NOT beating this build without it... I also have a 60,000 volt Granatelli coil from a Mustang application because of it's small size to fire gap less plugs.

Day 2: So far so good. It was running lean, and I found time to do the pilot jet. The jet in the OKO 24.. was a 42. I am now on a 52, and 2 1/4 turns out. Hit 50 miles on the clock so I drained the tank, and added my Golden spectro synth. Still haven't twisted past 1/4 throttle but with the new jet, and proper oil it is now spinning 5,200 @ 47mph. I've been soooooo tempted to twist it but there is too much left to add before I start looking for results.
Found a cross refference # for the NGK gap less race plug too It is a Champion 831 UL77V. http://www.amazon.com/Champion-831-UL77V-Racing-Series/dp/B001HBSUCQ (http://www.amazon.com/Champion-831-UL77V-Racing-Series/dp/B001HBSUCQ) These are 1/10th the cost of the NGK. I get them for 2.27@. They are the plugs used in Mercury offshore racing, and that is good enough for me. They are considered a 15 heat range so LONG WOT is not an issue anymore. The 60,000v coil will make short order of idling issues along with the MSD CDI. I'm soooooo tempted to tromp this thing but will wait for the pipe. The local cops are donating time, and radar equipment for the runs. They all know my scoot is not restricted but 90 will blow their minds!

The 100 mark is slated for a Minarelli engine design I am putting together. I have an aluminum frame drag scoot that I've been building in stages by gaining info everywhere, and experience from the ZX.
This is right now... a pipe dream, as NO parts have been bought, or pen to paper. But I am setting feelers for the parts I need.
90 is THE goal for the ZX. Too many others have claimed it but "I" have not seen ONE! I bought a smart phone to document my results. You all know I hate dealing with taking/up loading/downloading/posting Picts. So I realize this MUST be proven.
90 for the ZX, and 100 for a custom Mina. I may just ride a home brewed chopper after that. There will be nothing left to prove!

I have a bud that ws born/raised here. Everyday they head up the Crooked River, get medicated, and mess w/ the local gators. I've been too many times. There is a backwater made by a 10' F'er that is too big to mess with. I'm sure you all will love it here. I even have a scoot for Batts.

No doubt about that one. I'm STILL waiting. They SAID 14 days to build/ship. It's been 20 since I paid. The Scorp. is still in Hono. customs too. I figure this is all for a reason... I would have killed trhe new build by now if I didn't learn to be patient w/ this stuff. I still haven't twisted over 1/4, and it's doing 50 like a sewing machine. I'm just a little scared of switching to the Scorp. cause I'm gonna have to learn what the sounds are (lean/rich). It's a whole different style pipe.

Update... I started running it a little. It has the 52 pilot, and a 118 main. The main is weak in the top so I still haven't opened it up but to 1/4 throttle is hums. 65ish @ 8g's. The pipe I have on it runs at 7,200 so it really starts to pull, and I have to roll back so the jug doesn't take over. My Scorp. is cleared customs, and I have my needle set from treatland. The MSD is still being used but will be ready for me shortly. Heya, Id stay away from Pertronix. My friend has a bad ass 79 Mazda Rx7 with a twin turbo setup and used pertronix coils until one caught on fire. It wasnt a good time. Now he uses HKS coils.

Ok. I got the Scorpion pipe! FU*K! This thing is Insane. First off it FIT. I mean perfect. First one out of four.I expected this thing to be loud but it's not. It's like the perfect gauge to cancel any tinny pops/pings, and blows out the back so it appears quieter to ride.
I was jetted perfect down to the needle, and this pipe bogs a bit on idle thru mid, and starts to clear around 7g's. Twist into that and it starts to climb fast. At 9.5k The cylinder kicks in, and its on... At 9k the needle is at the edge of where you can figure a number on the speedo. It takes the frik off till I had to stop. This is on a 1/4 mile stretch of Hwy98It screamed lean toward the top but jetting is easy enough. I still have parts coming for the cvt /Ignition system so I don't plan to run it out yet. But I will tell you for sure it will be over 80mph within a month. Once I see 85 I will get a Malossi crank / frame brace, and shoot for 90.

The thing is awesome. It's easier to hear/tune than any of the E pipes I've had. It has a definite tone for lean, and it won't run rich. It's close.
Still my FAVORITE part is the rear exhaust. It's gone by the time you hear it. Those friking down at the side mufflers drive me insane

Forgot. On another thread someone linked an EGT set up. Now I'm gonna f' up a good pipe when I should have asked for it to be done when it was built. I have a business friend that welds so I'll ask his opinion on installing a bung. I would think blowing the hole out w/ a torch, and then brazing it would do fine.

Depends on the size of the probe. Will it not affect the exhaust flow? create turbulence inside maybe?

Man... Gotta burst my bubble... Not! I'm going to try a collar type bung to cut/tap till just enough of the tip is exposed to get a reading. If there are ill effects it's easy to change.
See the real point is tunning an MSD unit to run the Ign. The EGT is the only verification of changes in timing. I don't have access to a dyno so I ride it out. I want this one to last a few years.
I did try one of the gapless plugs on the other pipe, and begining jetting, and what I found was with optimal mix they delivered more power. Lean they felt better but rich... They misfired at least 1:7 strokes. But that is with a claimed 30k coil. I believe the reason they made power was because the flame starts exactly at the apex of the combustion chamber, and all of the energy is focused downward. Baring Pre Det. there are No opposing flame fronts as there are when you project into the chamber. So more Real power. +1cc. I'll take em where I can get em.

I forgot to mention the front end. The forks are off an '09 Agility that I re-tuned using 1" tube shims, and drilling the relief valve to 3.5mm, I also cut off the cast in fender mounts from the legs. The brake caliper is the dual piston off the same Agility. The forks are Much stiffer, and much quicker than the wore out 05 ZX set up. The ZX OEM was a single piston caliper. Also Malossi ceramic pads. The whole deal is much better.

The probe is small enough it will never create a disturbance coming out of your J pipe. The real tuning of your 2t exhaust is by sound and not flow at any rate. Sonic tuning. You want to place the probe 6 inches from the outlet, otherwise you will get a bad reading. Too close and you will burn it out. Ive run them as far as 3 feet from a rotary and still got perfect results, but rotaries can max out over 1700 F and anything closer than 1 1/2' will burn up in a few runs around the track. Same with A/F meters, those need to be pretty close as well. There has been several cheap Stoichmetric meters on ebay lately also. You can use any O2, 0-6v 6v-0v etc, that is the same voltage as them and it will work. Majority of 1 wire O2s are around 30$ A/F gauge cheap is 5-10$
Next time I go out to my friends Ill take a pic of his elite, its got a trailtech vapor, EGT, A/F, Voltage, Fuel level, and a huge 6 inch tach. Theres a way to install analog tachs on our scoots also if you didnt already know. Riding his scoot is like driving an Auto cross car I swear. So much to look at.

Can you take a pic of the front end set up you have? Im interested in doing this as well. I was looking at the peoples front end, a guy I just met has one that was hit from behind so whole rear is done for, it actually split his case in between.

I always wanted an analoge tach, got 3 sitting in my garage, just never got round to looking at fitting it yet. I got a small digi tach on my A50 for now but it look too cheap for my liking. Got a nice vintage tach thats on my to do list tho for my Vespa. Also would like an oil temo gauge too, had one in my beetle that went in the sump plug, thought i could adapt one of those sensors maybe for my scoot. Again on my to do list. :D

I really hate digital displays but for the egt I'll live with it. I found some anolog looking digital tach speedo set up that I may try. They imitate the gauges pretty well. I simply plan on a speedo w/ fuel gauge, a tach. and the egt. on naked bars.

How are you going to drive the tach? Im guessing with the MSD? Nice Lights too, I use some 9 LED fog lights that come on via a relay hooked up to the head light plug. Bright as hell and no battery drain really. But those look sweet!

The tach will be fired off the coils input, and the lights are the bomb. They normally use the H3 halogen bulbs but I will be using the H3 replacement LED's. I have the 4 led fog lights on the Vruk, and they work fine as driving lights. I just thought the projector lens's looked cooler. They can mount right on top of the front cowl, and another pair mounted inside the cowl at the sides of the wheel.
I'm running dual H7 batteries with an isolator so the leds will never be noticed. All the lights have been converted to led. I need my power for the coil/msd.

Yeah that gauge does look sweet. Modern but with old styling. Much nicer than digi displays. Lights look the business too.
I assumed i could prob run one of my tachs off the coil too, thats how i had my Monster Tach running on my beetle.

Yeah. They all wire up the same. I used one from a 4 cylinder Out Board for awhile. Just had to X's by 4. I really have no love for washed out digital displays. I'll be sure to post up what Cynthia finds.

I was told by WeBike that the Windjammer is no longer being made (no dies for the header). This is AFTER paying $827.00, and waiting almost a month. I mentioned it to Cynthia, and I'll sit tight to see what she can find. There HAS to be ONE pipe somewhere.

I will owe you till one of us passes on. I have read old forums where the Jammer was avail. for under 400.00. I assumed it was doubled because the engines are no longer made but there are a million Dios around.
If you can find a source for a Jammer I will be forever grateful. I am planing on using it on a 100cc water cooled zx engine. I have seen a few in the Philippines/Hawaii/Japan but never heard of one in the US. The engine/build is almost useless without a pipe with character.
I am getting a refund of the money I sent so the price/source of one is not an issue.

The strange bit is once it reaches the cylinders rated peak of 9,500 it takes off like a different engine. My dmm tach. only reads 12k. At 12 it is still pulling harder than it does from dead still. I have never had a pipe/jug make better power out of the band. Any ideas on why? I had planned to heat wrap the header of the pipe to raise the band but that is useless now. I believe this set will rev till it pops! This is the first 2t I have Ever owned that does this. They all fall flat after the Jugs rating but this one is thru the roof!
I would LOVE to hear any input on WHY the band is soo high.

Youre about to melt another piston, 2t rev higher right before they pop. Check for air leak at the exhaust header. Whats your temps like? Maybe upjet because for sure you cant be supplying enough fuel for 12k when your set to max at 9500 with the jetting you had.

Pipe design? Maybe the cone taper of the pipe is not steep compared to other pipes. Will this not give you a higher band?

No air leaks. I even pressure tested the pipe before installing it. (40+ welds on it). It shows no sign of running lean at those rpm's. I even ran it for 1 straight mile at wot. Pulled the plug, and it is perfect. There is a cone INSIDE the rear tube just after the header. The cone is the back splash for the sound wave to emanate from. Now because the cone is closer to the exh port I expected quicker building rpm's but this is insane. It takes a normal amount of time to reach 9k... the pipe starts to hit, and it screams right past 12k in seconds. WOT is the scariest sh** I have done in YEARS.
This is more of an attempt to figure how it can make power well past the pipes design, and how the jug is not falling flat. Air leaks would show lean/ sound lean. I don't have the EGT yet so WOT is off the agenda until I can SEE what is going on, and get it out to the airfield to test. It's too much for the street. I sure don't care about the bike, and if I get hurt...oh well, but for someone else to get hurt because of me?? Gonna keep it on the air strip.

12k rpms is a nice feeling for sure, always in fear of something popping though. Are you using the stock crank? I wonder what the max Rpm is on one of them before it loses balance.
What jetting and carb set up are you using? When I saw 10.5+ on my MHR i started to get worried and backed off, I really felt like it would hit 11+ with out a doubt. Then I melted that sh** piston using a 122 main jet, stupid mistake, should have been at least 135. Im putting a Corsa on it just like you are until I bore the cylinder and get it mocked up on a different engine.
The Corsa should be here tomorrow, and I hope to ride it a few times before I leave. Im using a 24mm OKO/Uni with 140 main to start, work down, and 45 pilot to start, YMS V8 to break it in, then switch to my Motorio expansion that helped blow up the MHR. I just got the MSD Blaster SS today for 48 bucks on sale.
Are you using the metal base gasket or did you make a paper gasket? I heard to make a paper gasket because of compression, Ill do a comp test of course. Im waiting to get the Corsa before I install the head studs, Ive heard people prefer to use the bolts that came with the kit instead? Whats you opinion on this for our rides?
sh** one more question, Im going to take my trans case apart probably later today to swap in the Malossi primaries, I think you did this also. What shims/washers did you use for them so they line up? Im sure it may be apparent when I line them up but a base point is always nice to start at.

For starters... I used the Ruima stuffed 44mm stroker. I cut 20 "L" shaped wedges into the outside perimeter to act as a fan to push mix into the boost port. This alone may be the root of what I am experiencing. As the rpms build so does the effect. The jug is set flat on the cases using Permatex flange sealer, and I milled 2.4mm into the head to get .6mm squish. I went this route vs shimming the base to get longer durations, and I use the rings as the timing mark on port opening/closing. These were set well before using the Scorp. pipe. I have my first pipe from this engine (Tech. Next). That's what I broke it in on. The jetting with the next was 52 pilot/125 main, and the fattest needle in the OKO24 kit. With the Scorp. I changed to a 50 pilot/125 main, and the thinnest needle.
For the head bolts I stayed with the set that came with the corsa. They are a real tight fit so guide pinns are not needed. The studs I have from the Ruima jug are thinner, and would have needed guides. As for the Malossi Primary set they just drop in using the OEM shim behind the small gear. The Malossi Secondary kit has a bushing that must be used or it will wallow out the case in NO TIME. This may be what happened to Batts. The Malossi Primaries were not tall enough, and I had to replace them with Polini's set. Malossi gave me a 7.3:1 final, and the Polini gave me a 6.1:1 final. I already had a set of unknown brand Secondaries that were 8.3:1 final.
I'm just scooting around on it, and not going to open it up again till I get the EGT, and MSD set up. I also have to get the cvt done. I still have some stretched out OEM fly springs, and a torch softened contra from break in. These are along with a Jasil Var, 6.5gr Polinni rollers, and a Stage 6 full race clutch. Of course a Malossi 1153 belt.
I am planning on a Stage 6 1500 contra, and fly's. The same roller weight, and eventually a Ruckus Jasil Var.
This is being set up for top end alone. I have had it set up quicker (1/8th-1/4 mil) but I am sincerely trying to beat 90mph/4,000ft on this build.

Alright I think I understand you when you said to swap the primaries I only need to use the OEM washer/spacers? No extra or less right? Its the primary that is pressed into the case and the big gear on the secondary that Im pressing onto the little counter gear replacing it with the malossi primary set.
I havent opened this case yet, but its different than the AF16 in the fact that the back half of the case comes off instead of the front.

The AF16 is different. That is a True Dio engine. The ZX (AF18) has a clip that holds on the larger gear, and the shims stay the same. (according to Malossi's instructions) The Polini had no reference to shimming but dropped right in. So far I have had no issue. Both of the Primaries drop in.

The rotor has less than a third of its surface area. That rotor wont stop a skateboard.
Save your bucks for better stuff.

If I put up a site that would be a different story. But then the prices would have to go up to pay for the site, and someone to stay with it to process orders. However, we cannot get direct from factory because China's too big and the factories there are days travel apart. Too time consuming if we're talking about lots of products. We have agents in China who contact these factories, collect them products, then ship out. Still cheap though. I use alibaba or made-in-china.com, get the factory/company details, inform our agents there and they do all the leg work, for a fee of course. Send me samples, I evaluate, approve, design packaging, order quantities, they then send pre-shipment samples, I approve, then they ship out.

Ok here's back to tech stuff. I don't have my Ignition system yet so I am still not beating this pig. I've been messing with jetting. It's the OKOpwk 24mm. These carbs are know for jets bleeding into the overlapping range making them Very hard to dial in. The main issue I am having is the in between ranges, and wot. I get a Great launch with a 55 pilot, and it will drop power unless I keep rolling on the throttle. If I keep rolling it on it is phenomenal. until wot then it begins to lean. No matter what main I use (and needle) I can not get enough fuel at wot. The issue is any jet big enough for wot will flood out at 1/4 throttle on. I checked the boost jet to be sure it was clear but it Never seems to come on. I have no way to verify if it is pulling fuel on the boost or not. Any ideas?

Me too but with these super tall gears I need all the ranges to flow together. I'm looking at 4000" to get top speed out of it, and stop. That space runs out real fast.

Alrighty then. I have the EGT installed, and it is working fine so far. I still have the issue with WOT but the EGT confirms everything else is in good shape. I get 740*@6k---860*@7k---980*8k---1040@9k---1240@10k. I understand 1250 is the upper limit of what you want so I have not ridden above that temp/rpm. I am believing the CDI I had Suitai program for is is the culprit in melting all the domes. I have 28* of advance from 9k-top rpm. I am learning 14-16 is better because it will transfer the heat from the jug to the pipe. I'm going to have to buy my MSD new cause HGT is not selling the one he had. It is being delivered on a bike. Soooooo The next major posting will be on mapping a timing curve for the ZX.

Forgot... The gauge is for sale... It is a 20 dollar ebay item, and I cannot read it in sunlight. I ordered the one I posted above so if anyone else wants to set up an EGT all you need is the sender. That is on ebay for 15 bucks. I paid a local welder to do the bung 40.00

Thanks Wass. It's come a long way in the past year. My intentions/needs for the bike have changed quite a bit, and it is showing in the results. I have most of the parts for taking off the head set, and converting to "naked" bars. I'm planning on starting all that this weekend.
I also found something Friggin' GREAT! HPI makes an internal rotor set up just for the ZX. The ONLY company that still produces them. http://www.hpi.be/universalignitiondig.htm (http://www.hpi.be/universalignitiondig.htm) It just so happens that Benji from Treatland is the US importer for HPI. So I have the rotor kit/fan adapter/Programmable CDI/and a 5amp lighting coil on the way. This set will take almost 6 pounds off the crank, and allow for faster revs, and higher maximum revs. Along with that I can program the timing to work with MY set up instead of the other way around. Another bennifit is the Hi flow fan... At any given rpm the fan is now much more efficient due to its ability to spin up faster. No more 6 pound flywheel holding it back. I will still be running a 60,000 volt Ign coil to allow for the NGK gap-less race plugs. all of this combined should allow me to rev the engine well past any rpm's I have ever seen before, and maintain safe combustion temps.
With all led's for lighting the 5a coil they supply is enough to run lights, and keep me street legal... except for all the other mods but I don't tell. Looks like a few more weeks, and it will be ready to rock.
What a friggin' project this has turned out to be.

It's all apart in the shop. Getting ready to build. The only parts not in hand are the coil, and HPI set. Lots of sh** to do. Right down to new cowl lights for a naked bar set. I have to open everything so I'll take picts along the way. I even have a Yamaha 90mph speedo on the way. led's, mirrors, all new cvt,new gears, new hand built reeds, new body work/cooling set up,maybe in seat intake. There's plenty to do. Just been collecting parts.
I have some welding to be done so I'll before/after that stuff, and some bracing to be built soooooooo. Plenty to do. The Vruk is all roughed in, and riding real well as an everyday...

It reads real time so you don't have to listen to every stroke of the engine. Once you dial in your set up you apply the temps to fine tuning, and Ign timing.
The investment of 80.00 in a nice gauge sure pays off to. I bought an led China gauge that failed on the third day. Still waiting on the replacement if anyone wants to buy a 10 dollar probe, and try it out. It lets you take your mind off what the revs are doing...Zen

Tore the ZX apart for a full rebuild. First thing is glass work... Get it out of the way. I have some F250 driving lites that are going into the front cowl. Since the cowl is in a finish paint state I have to cut exactly to size, and do all the body work on the inside. Twice as hard but since I have a few hundred in paint, and appropriate stickers I don't want to mess with that yet...
I have to break this up into 2 pict. posts cause of file size crap... so here's the lights...

Here are some of the belly pan. The idea here is to cut open the air dam behind the front wheel, and direct that air back to the engine/electronics for cooling. As a side benefit I see the reduced turbulence under the scoot.
I laid out three layers of 4oz. fiberglass finish cloth on a waxed pane of glass. This allows one side to be a "finished" surface. Flat as glass... The cloth peels right off the window, and now I have a finished piece to cut the belly pan from... Just lay it out, and glass it from the inside. I have nothing more to do to it. No need to paint it under the scoot.
Then cut out the air dam leaving just a rounded edge for strength. There is alot more modding to do on the body over the next few days. Oh... The piece I built for the entire bottom weighs 14oz's installed. The plastic piece I cut out weighs 18oz.

No idea?? Maybe check the active ingredient... The stuff I use is also water based. Like simple green. It soaks in changing the rust to a hard "epoxy" like material. You can even tap threads into repaired areas. It's worth the price here but there it may be worth it's weight in gold...

Changed my mind on the Black/stickers. Found some cool tropical looking blue/teal. New Paint it is... Cowl lights are done. Belly pan is done. Next big deal is going to be Stripping the bar set for gauges/electrical controls. I have a new analog EGT /Tach., and a 90MPH (not kph) speedo off a Yamaha 250 something. Got no dates in mind... I want it done before the end of the month but I am 1 email away from shipping the Ign set from Belgium. I learned to wait. It's a new flaw in my character but I'll learn to cope with that too.
The air dam has bothered me from day 1. You can see on one of the Prepped body picts I cut the inside of the "flame?" looking thing in front of the cooling fan area as well. It's all about getting air.
I still have more paint to do but the base is all done. You can see the old body work on the tail section from when I joined the body into one piece.

It's actually real easy. You can make anything... The first thing I did was join the body... Changed 200 screws 40 broken tabs, and three panels into one shell that removes in seconds with the seat/well. I recommend doing it to every scoot you get your hands on. My entire scoot body has three pieces, and two for the floor. 16 screws/nuts/bolts total. Takes about 2 minuites to strip to the frame.

Thanks... Maybe I'll like this one... You can see in one of the tail section picts all the colors it's been. Green when I got it, Greew w/ White, all White, Red w/ White, all black, Black w/ White, Black w/ Orange, and now Black w/ Turquoise. There's about 100.00 in paint ALONE on each shot. I have about a grand in body! f***!
Tomorrow I should have the paint finished/cowl assembled/engine removed/frame brace mocked up/ and the wiring harness removed. I decided to paint the frame. Pure white Imron.
Once all the chassis stuff is done I'll get into the engine/cvt. I have some stock coming for a new base spacer, New Polini primaries to go in with a taller set of Motori secondaries, Maybe an in seat air set up for the carb. (That may be just for around town so we'll see), clutch/bell/spring, belt, full led conversion, re-wind the HPI lighting coil to 10amps, gauge install/naked bars set up... That reminds me... Just bought some 70.00 mirrors that I have to paint. I bought them Because they are anodized ORANGE!!! Too bad. I think I will like this set up.

They have no built in adjustment. I just installed them for PoPo Camo. I had to measure 20 times to get them where they are. Of course I can modify the housing inside to adjust... But it's not an issue for my needs.

At least one paint session a week. I like to do different things all the time. I'd go nuts just doing engines/running gear. Fabrication is cool, and painting is a ZEN thing for me. Get High as F on the fumes, have a beer to calm down, ride home,walk/feed the animals, roll a prescription cigarette, and chill here with you all. 390 days a year.

apparently theres a adjusting screw either on the bottom left or right of the light housing when you take the plastic off the frount and i think if you screw it one way or another then it changes the beam up or down....at least thats what i read in the service manuel.

apparently theres a adjusting screw either on the bottom left or right of the light housing when you take the plastic off the frount and i think if you screw it one way or another then it changes the beam up or down....at least thats what i read in the service manuel.

Zombie, just get a Mychron 4 with ebox! With the right hookups and data key, it's all you could ever want in a tach/speedo/cht/egt/etc.
I got mine used on Craigslist for about $200 - which is really cheap for one of these. Still need to add the ebox, just waiting for the right deal.

@Zombie... With digital gauges, you need to "read" the readings and it's very dangerous to do during very high speeds. However, with analog gauges, you only need to position your redlines at 12'oclock and only need to glance if all needles point up. No need to read. Some call it "twisted gauge".

I prefer analog as well - especially with tachometers. Unfortunately, I just didn't see many options out there for what I really wanted. I chose the mychron in the end. Please do be sure to keep us updated though. I'm sure that whatever you end up with is going to be nice. :)

I haven't figured the layout yet... Get it today tho. In hot rods I always chose gauges that read 12:00 when all was as it should be. I chose the gauges I have now with that in mind. All the sweeps should be similar. Right down to the speedo. It's sort of oval rather than round to get the needle sweeps aligned. And the Tach. I chose is 16k so the needle will again be aligned with the egt/speedo. No thinking involved that way.

No building yet but I do have the final parts in the post... The HPI inner rotor kit/fan adapter/5amp lighting coil/1 curve programmable cdi/interface, and software. 492.00 shipped from Belgium. I also bought an Ign coil from Nology. 45k volts at 0.3 ohm. 53.00 shipped. This set will fire gap less race plugs. No more miss fires/fouled plugs/melted pistons

My dad has a lincoln stick welder but I have no idea what I'm doing. My dad doesn't either. He bought it 30+ years ago and he's maybe used it once. I've tried a few times. It's not pretty :D

I can get away with a MIG but I really need a TIG for the metals I work with. Plus the option of dissimilar metal welding... I think 2.5-3g's is where I need to be. Be nice to have a gas set too.

The scoot stuff is just a small part of the metal work I get into. Mostly engine mounts, and structural elements in boats. I do some railings/towers but mainly structural. It's all Stainless/Aluminum. The welding on the zx is both steel frame, and Alumin for the brace. I need a welder...

Now comes the fun stuff. Making an instrument console... I started with a pane of glass. Wax it with any kind of wax so nothing can stick to it. I rolled on a coat of Poyl resin, and three layers of glass cloth.

I put in two spots for the EGT, and the Tach. I'll open the holes for them tomorrow. I also left some realestate in the center above the speedo in case I want to add something later.
The roughed out piece is cut to fit over the bars, and attach to the original mount points. At dark I had just enough time to hit the rough piece with a coat of primer just to see... Nice fit for sure...

I 100% agree Calo... All the paint/glass in the world mean nothing if this bugger doesn't haul ass. I'm pretty confident tho, it has sent the speedo needle off the dial without even getting into the power band. (3/4 throttle).
Since it has rained all day Here I actually slept... F'n GREAT feeling. I did get the first coats of paint on the console piece, and am pretty happy with it. I couldn't finish it due to cool weather, and HIGH humidity but for a "base" it looks all right.
The first thing I did was to figure the mounting. I never once put a tape measure on any of it. There are a few mounting tabs on the bars that had to go, and the tabs that held the Light housing needed to be cut/bent to work. Those, and the cut outs I made to fit over the bars are 100% perfect. I used some #8 machine screws w/ rubber grommets, and the cut outs are going to be rubber mounted as well. This system should protect my gauges from vibration. Here's the picts...

Here's one I forgot... The new paint for the floor pan... Since I primed the pan with Awl Grip Epoxy primer... There is no need for HI dollar paint here. I used Krylon "Camo-Colors" rattle can spray.

Just got the Ign from Belgium. Installed the software, and can't get it to save a program... Just working out bugs I'm sure. I gotta say this thing is sick... It's like playing with gun parts. Now I can't decide if I'm gonna tune the ign. or finish the build then do it. I'll probably hold my tongue, and finish first.

On the real... I am having issues with the software that came with the set. It's called "tunebox 4". My issue is the software does not save to the computer or the cdi. Does anyone know about these ignitions? Apparently HPI is in Belgium, and they frequent Amsterdam quite often. I think that means all day every day. Next to impossible to get a hold of. Maybe someone knows some contact info for a shop that installs their product? Or someone with some computer skills beyond my pirating. I think I need to be on the phone with someone to work this one out...

Awesome. I've put 4 emails into hpi, and two others I forgot. I'm trying a thread on Moped army. Actually a guy there is setting up a polini'hpi. Hopefully he knows what I'm missing. Wax on Scoot Inv has some experience with them but is in a piss fight with HGT so I'll have to wait for that one.

I am too tired to post a whole big deal but Update
I woke at 3:00am to work with Bart (owner HPI) on fixing this. I can't even begin to tell the crap I have tried in the past few days so I was glad to wake up and try something else. He emailed me a few files that I had to rename to open. One was a removal tool for the HPI driver in the TuneBox 4 program, and the other is a pre release version of tune box that Bart has just finished. He tells me the driver for the chip they use is a Generic driver that was prone to glitches. HPI asked the designer of the chip to develop a driver for programing. That is the new driver he sent along. After MANY failed attempts he believes I have a defective cdi, and is shipping a new one asap. I PRAY that is the issue. Time is ticking away, and I am sitting here looking at my sexy but dead Ign set.
Soooo for the rest... I have the speedo housing done, and my welder is coming on Fri next for the frame mods. I have Picts but you all can't see them. My phone is no longer talking to my computer. I think they had a fight when I went to the store cause when I got home the computer was in sleep mode, and the phone was sobbing on the bathroom floor. Whatever the cause I gave them till tomorrow to sort it out or one of them has to go.
The only chassis part left for me is stripping, and painting the frame. Then It's all for you guys... I'm gonna open the cases again, and do some radical port work I have been debating. Basically i want 15% more volume in the intake tract, and 5% more in the transfers.
I figure the jug is 40% bigger than the OEM so the cases should be as well. I guesstimate I have already hit 20-25% increase in the previous port work so the rest is gravy. Gonna open the exh by 4mm on each side, and bring the forward transfers up 1.25mm to stagger the opening, and widen the power band.
On paper this is a sick engine. In the scoot it should be a Demon.

Been busy making money the past two weeks anyway. The ZX is sitting. It breaks my heart seeing it all blown apart, and no work gettin done on it but Oh Well. I plan to get back on it this week. Maybe I can start re assembling it by Friday. My welder guy is available all week so I will have a buddy drop/pick up the frame for me, and I'll paint it before Fri.
The only part missing is my Tach. I forgot where I ordered it. I finally found where, and they said it shipped 4weeks ago... They are sending another.
If anyone wants a copy of this TuneBox software to play with let me know, and I will have to Email it to you. It's pretty cool for understanding how these cdi's work, and what they do. The program allows up to 20 point of timing on the curve. The Factory CDI's we all run have as few as 3 points on the same graph.
Example OEM Kymco 2t 15*Before TCD @ 1000rpm/25* @ 3000rpm/straight line to 0* @ 10,000rpm
My sutai 13 *BTDC @ 1k/28* @ 3000rpm/28* right thru to 15,000 (still just 3 points)
The curve I have laid out for the HPI is about 12 points matching the timing to the exhzust temp at every rpm. The idea is to keep approx. 900* egt from 1krpm thru 15krpm where a rev limiter will be set. This will keep the pipe pulsing at a constant rate, and avoid jetting conflicts due to Temp. changes in the pipe. Hot pipes pulse faster, and if you are lean, and the pipe speeds up you just get leaner.
That is the idea behind programing the Ign timing. Matching all the components so they work together, instead of fighting each other.

I'll get your email from the forum info, and send it to you. I have to rename it to TuneBox v5.03.cxc so the email will not see it. When you get it simply right click, and go to "rename". You will rename it TuneBox v5.03.exe. It will change appearance, and is ready to run. The new driver is included. I'll send all the assorted info I have as well.
After looking at several different coils the Nology is by far the cleanest power available It is rated at 45k volts MIN. output. That should fire a piece of driftwood. The reason I gave up the MSD was for this coil. The MSD is a 12v fired cdi so a good battery is a MUST. I had planned to run dual batteries, and an isolator for the Ign. but then I would not be able to run such a hot coil. Id be stuck at 30k volts where I started. I believe I made a newly educated wise chioce... Well see!
As for the Dash pod... I can make any shape style you like. The one I made for the ZX is about 9-1" wide x 4" tall x 6" front to back. I have about 60-65 bucks in materials, and 7-8 hrs labor total. I guess 150.00 is a fair price for something similar.?.?. What I would need is some picts of the bar set as is, and stripped with dimensions. Then some sketches of the idea you like or Picts. of a similar pod. I think it is best if I build it, and leave the final cuts/fitting/mounting to you. My mounts cost all of 2.00 at Ace hardware. I greatly appreciate your interest cause making sh** is what I really prefer doing. Mechanic stuff just pays the bills.

Sorry no Picts. yet... I ordered a card reader for like 3 bucks on Ebay to get the Picts. out of the phone. I'll update the picts when I get it.
Anyway alot got done in the past two rainy days. Split the cases, and finished the porting inside them. There is enough room now for two cranks (almost). I do believe I hit close enough to the 40% volume increase mark. With the cases empty I filled them both (OEM case, and modified case (i have two sets)) with mineral oil. The OEM held .75 Qts., and the modified held just short of 1 1/4. I had to refill the area I milled out for the Ruima jug as the boost port was MASSIVE on that, and it left a 2mm gap behind the Polini boost. JB wled, and ALOT of tink 1/8" holes for it to bite into, some re milling of the boost, and done.
When I originally set up the Polini I used a 3mm spacer (to save time) for the base, and had a 1.75 squish (sucky). From http://www.onlinemetals.com/aluminumguide.cfm (http://www.onlinemetals.com/aluminumguide.cfm) I bought an assortment pack of 4x4" sheet aluminum for spacers (jug base). So today I cut the spacer, and using a paper gasket between the spacer and the case, as well as an oem Polini aluminum gasket between the spacer and the jug I got a perfect .5mm squish. The paper gasket is bedded with OMC Perfect seal, and the aluminum gasket is bedded with Permatex Flange sealer. BULLET PROOF! I mover the exhaust port up 1.5mm, and 2mm wider on each side. The forward transfers I moved up 1mm, and left the rear transfers as is. This should raise the power band up in rpm, while still making power below the pipe. That was the time consuming part. It took all day to get the jug set, and mounted.
The fun stuff was in the cvt. I drilled 6 7/8" holes along the belts path (top, and bottom), and a series of 7-8 holes thru the bump out where the kickstart lever is mounted. Right over the Var. These along with the 6" hole over the clutch will let in enough air to keep it cool.
I installed a Stage 6 MKII instead of the Malossi Delta for various reasons... Mostly ease of tuning. Along with that I am using a Stage 6 race bell so again... Bullet proof. I am using the second strongest fly springs Stage 6 offers (orange), as well as a Malossi red Contra. w/ a Malossi torsion controller to shim the spring tighter. The reason for all the pressure on the TD is I have some NEW gears. I got my Polini instead of the Malossi primary gears, and Steve from Moped Hospital was generous enough to part w/ a set of custom cut secondary gears from back in his racing day. He tells me they never had a bike that could push these gears so they sat on the shelf for years. I promised I would not bitch... The OEM drive ratio is 10:1. I had a set of secondaries that gave me 8.3:1, and ran 3 kits that way. The Polini over reved at 12.5krpm. I ran out of gear... Installed the Malossi primary set 7.1:1, and ran off the speedo before again running out of gear. Now with the Moped Hosp. gears, and the Polini Primaries I have a final ratio of 5.75:1. I don't see running out of gear w/ that ratio. It will be NO wheelie popper but it MAY get the 90mph mark I want. The rest of the cvt is a Jasil var/7.5gr Jasil rollers (Damn best rollers I have used... NO wear visiable after almost 700 miles of breaking in the kit), and a Malossi Kevlar (of course) belt. The cvt is all an educated guess at this point because of the new gears so springs/rollers may be swapped out in testing.
Here's something just for Batts... In swapping the gears I found the main shaft on the secondary gear was TIGHT in the boss on the case. I actually had to tap it in. Then I couldn't turn the input shaft by hand. NO GOOD. Pulled it back out, and chocked it in a drill press. Using 2000 grit emory paper I hand lapped the boss, polished it out w/3000-5000-6000-#7 rubbing compound, and finally Dupont polishing compound. The gear dropped in. No play, and spins like a top. The thrust washers, and shims were replaced with new ones along with the seals, and bearings. I did have to use a point file on one of the secondaries as it was just a hair too tight. Now the whole deal spins like a new bike. Somewhere in all that is what I think Batts missed. Tight is great for lots of things but NEVER on a gear set.
Anyway I did have to shim my boss because the Malossi belt is .5mm wider. I also destroyed my cvt cover gasket so the kick start crown gear is hitting the drive face... Two-Three cover gaskets will fix that.And finally I am trying a new set of Boysen .035 reeds. I use .030 for most all reed engines but this one has a 15krpm red line so I believe the thicker reeds are needed. We'll see.

Ps... The engine held pressure for 1/2hr w/o the carb or pipe. Tomorrow I want to test it with the pipe installed to verify the integrity of all the 25 welds. The base gaskets, and spacer... The spacer is the bottom one. The other are OEM Kymco (trimmed), and Polini Aluminum base gasket. I think the total thickness is 1.8mm w/ sealers. It gave a .5mm squish, and the top ring is right at the base of the boost port. I got soo wrapped up in setting the hieght/making the spacer I forgot to take picts inside the jug. I did find one odd thing. On the right side transfer area of the piston I found there is a decent size cool spot where the raw fuel creates a pattern on the dome. It's called "wash" When 2t engine temps are right the cooler charge hits the dome making a sort of rainbow but no colors. Just gray. I did NOT see this on the left side. The side that would be closer to the intake! I also found a carbon stripe about the width of a pencil lead along the same side in the exhaust port. The ONLY residue in the engine.Maybe I'm too rich at some point, and the fuel is just flowing out along there. The Spectro oil leaves nothing behind so it must be the fuel. I never paid much attention to final jetting on the bike cause it was just run to break in the bore, and never at wot yet. Sooo All that wonder may be for nothing anyway.

The clutch set up... Using the Malossi red, and Stage 6 orange. I also installed two brass weights in each shoe. They are placed closest to the pivots. I under stand they make the shoes bite harder, and add of course to the force of the grap. We'll see.

The clutch is much lighter than the OEM too. I didn't weigh them but between the bell, and the clutch I bet it's between 1/4, and 1/3rd less weight. That combined with the urethane stuffed crank, and the inner rotor Ign has maybe taken 7-8lbs OFF the drive train, and added rpm's, as well as quicker throttle response. On paper this thing is a beast of a 78cc kit (thats the stroked total cc) I think it worked out to 78.3.
Didn't take picts of the var... It don't look fancy. Just a Var. I did have to shim.

Something I forgot to mention... I have stopped using rubber intake couplers, and hoses. Check out the intake coupler... Reinforced Vinyl. That stuff is unbreakable. I have another rubber coupler that failed on a customer. It's a friend of the people that had a TGB I repaired about a year ago. Same issue. Separated lining inside the coupler. Same material for the fuel line. The vacuum I still need to swap.

It was sold the next day (after a lot of testing to make sure) at a discount since it was theoretically "used", and the new owner (here in NC) couldn't be happier with it. I'm not such a snob that I won't talk to you anymore dude. :P The trade we had in the works just wasn't working out mutually. Water under the bridge. I know you get mixed vibes from me here and there, but you gotta understand that I'm working 12-14 hour days (sometimes more) often and my availability is touch and go. I love to help when I can though.

That's the case I used for the Ruima jug. I took out a solid 4-5 cubic inches from that boost area to get the Boost to operate as the primary port. The Polini didn't come close to covering the hole. You could still drop a dime into the case with the Polini installed. Very different indeed.
I did forget to post alot of the steps involved as Love My pointed out it is impossible to concentrate on a thread/picts, and figure tolerances / port durations / timmings at the same time.

Got a bit more done... The frame. I was gonna sand blast but once I had it de greased it was in great shape. Just roughed it up w/ 180grit, and sealed it w/ clear poly. The finish coats are the same paint I used on the plastics but I darkened it a few shades to give some contrast.

Another issue w/ the HPI... The rotor taper is 1mm too big, and the fan adapter is missing from the kit. Called them Friday at 6pm eastern, and reached them at 10am their time. It's in the post... I have a source to borrow a tig this week so I will post that.

Good news... The HPI parts came in today, (again), and all is well in Florida. The new cdi is perfect. The programs now save. They also included the fan adaptor that was missing from the first order, as well as the proper rotor. I talked to Willy about guestimate curves, and here is a screen shot of one. This is strictly a guess to test the program.

Here is a free degree tape I found thru Google. I have to bring home the flywheel to size it correctly. I also printed a degree wheel that I sealed to a dvd with clear spray paint. I'll post up picts of them both in use.

One final cool bit... Hippie Carl met a guy from Missouri that owns a Harley dealership. He took on a line of scooters about a year ago. Poor sales. Carl showed him the threads on the ZX build, and the guy wanted to meet. The idea of a complete custom build has been thrown down to get people interested in scooters in his area... I see either a NEW build for him, or the transfer of ownership of the ZX (for a nominal fee of course). This is pretty damn exciting for me. I'd LOVE to do a custom build for ANYONE never mind a dealer. I also have some interest in one of parts on both this, and SI forums. I may see the light at the end of the Boating tunnel. Don't want to count chickens before they hatch but I MUCH prefer building to maintaining.
Anyway you guys all rock. I appreciate all the love/hate/indifference. Whatever the result at the end of the day... Posting/hanging w/ you all is really the high point to any day.

I knew I'd catch sh** for the old school games. It's TW 2002. It's clunky, and I love it. A little mood modifier, and it feels like I'm in the game.
If you mean limit of usable programing it is 16k rpm at any degree. There is a rev limiter feature that you can add at any rpm. It is programmable to either no spark/skip/or retard timing to any degree.
Since I figured out screen shots I can show you the Suatai curves on the TuneBox software. The first one is the OEM curve... The second is the one I had Suitai program for me...

Ohhhhh Now I get it... You meant the red line on the chart... It's a polar equalizer. If your timing is that hi you need medication. No. Just some random line... Actually you can show up to 6 chart colors at once. They have no interface other than user input but for saving info related to the timing it is useful. Switching the numbers to suit my needs I plan to overlay the EGT's on the timing chart for reference, and further adjusting of the timing. I could add HP/Torque/coolant temps or whatever I felt relevant. I KNOW you are gonna get one of these. Order thru me, and I'll give you the forum discount... :) (I know a guy)
Before I forget... These CDI's will work with any pulsar coil flywheel so there is no need to get an entire inner rotor kit. I know J. has a kit but for anyone wanting to use a programmable cdi they are about 320.00 USD from Treatland. I think with some LOCAL looking around a 1/2 off sale can be found... somewhere.... local.... permanently on sale. They also make them in DC for the older Kymco's with DC cdi's

This bike was bought on a whim. I knew nothing about Kymco's. Before it I had a mini fleet of NC50's, and a stand up two wheel jobby. If I knew then what I know now I would have passed on the ZX, and got a POO POO smelling S9 or an Aerox, or the Aprillia. I have no great love for this bike. I do love making it better. (IMHO)
If I hang on to it... It will devalue, and deteriorate. If I sell after proving it's potential I MAY get the money back out of it.
We are going to work over email to determine what he wants to do. He is selling Kymco/Pierspeed. I'd prefer to build a pierspeed for him as they are sportier out of the box, have rear disc brakes on a Mineralli clone engine. I can do alot more with the Mina engine for much less cost in parts. He just fell in love w/ my zx cause EVERYTHING is changed allready.

Well i guess that makes sense then, if the offer is good enough to make it worth your while. I would prob want to keep it for a bit and get some fun out of it after all my time and labour spent on it (not to mention cash) but i hear what youre sayin, sometimes you just gott let things go when the offers made and move on the the next project. Being such a specialised machine i guess it takes a special kinda person to apprieciate whats gone into building it so as to get a decent offer. Craigs list, ebay etc just would not do, unless you want a load of idiots calling up offering to swap you an iPad or some sh**ty car ::)
Think of all the cash you'd have too for the next "experiment" :D
Hopefully it works out whatever way you decide to go anyway. Still want to see it hit 90mph if poss before it goes tho :)

Well whatever it does tuned is what it is meant to do. I'm not gonna chase a number. The only reason 90 came up was as what it MIght do tuned. I've had it over 70 many times before but this time I was just starting to hit the power band. Ran out of gear, and Ign timing, and it was at 3/4 throttle. I've never had this engine wide open. I Know it will top 80 but by how much I am unsure.
Helmet/jacket/gloves/still to be made frame brace, and we'll see. I'll never sell it before I get to see what it does... I'll take deposits tho ;D

Love lloyd cole tho, saw them live a few times in the 80's & 90's, excellent band. Lloyd was english but he formed the commotions he came to Glasgow to study at Glasgow Uni, where i live. I've been crazy busy lately, sorry for not updating this... I posted this on SI a few days ago so to save time I'm copy/pasting...
I stole a few hours for myself today. The plan was to mock up the Ign.. More delays... There is a mount plate that the stator attaches to. That fit. The countersunk holes(to recess the mount machine screws) are too small to flush the heads of the screws. Also I had to cut the screw length. Ok plate mounted. Now the stator does not sit in the right position because the holes in the mount plate are mis aligned. Drill/tap/counter sink new holes. I assembled the fan on the adapter. No issue. Now the adapter on the rotor... Issue. The fan bolts are too long, and hit the rotor. Remove/cut. Install again. Get ready for this... The rotor they sent as the second/correct rotor does not fit the crank! Again. I measured my fat end of the taper, and have 14.5.. Their smallest rotor has 15,5mm. Yet it is listed for the ZX Super Fever! So rotor in hand I rolled down to the machine shop, and chucked up th rotor to take 2mm off the inside (fat end of taper). Now it sits snug on the crank but is below the stator so the Fan adapter will not install. Sooooo The way this is going I may wind up tossing their inner rotor kit. ^%Too many issues so far. They are on Vaca for two more weeks. Rat Bastards.
I know I can machine a taper adapter to correct this but it needs to be 1mm thick at a 5.5* taper. I'm sure I can cut the inside taper but cutting the outside, and then cutting off from the stock will be hell. For a 500.00 dollar kit I'm not too impressed.
Josh... Do you know the od of your crank at the fat end of the rotor taper? The Var end is the same so I would THINK the flywheel end is too!

I don't use the choke. I warm my fuel in a spoon, and inject it into the vacuum line.
I think I figured an easy fix for the rotor... Plain sheet stock. I can install the woodruff key, and wrap a 1mm thick band around cutting it to fit up to the key on either side. Easy deal. The HPI rotor does not use a key so I can simply use the key as filler with the new band. I was thinking hard steel to avoid wear but actually I think soft aluminum may act as a gasket or seal of sorts, and actually hold better. Vibration should be no more an issue than on a head gasket or such. The only part left is mounting the rotor, and making the frame brace... Glad I figured this one out. Waiting on parts sucks.
Yeah maybe I didn't mention... I emailed to Thank the guys at HPI for getting the remaining parts out to me, and got a Vacation email in return. They are gone till the 29th Aug. A few more parts coming, and a new air shock for the rear. http://www.mawsolutions.com/html/fournales_shock_absorbers.html (http://www.mawsolutions.com/html/fournales_shock_absorbers.html) It's the only thin shock I could find to work with the Diablo tire's width. My Tach, and the shock are the last two big pieces. Lots of small stuff tho... Rear brake cable, CVT cover gaskets, front wheel bearings, a few more replacement led's for the gauges.
I can count the oem pieces on one hand. Everything is new oem or after market. Wheels/handlebars/front brake master cyl/levers are the only unchanged parts. I've lost my mind...

Im surprised you havent relocated your top shock mount more rear and outboard yet. It will make more room for tire expansion and size.
I would worry if using aluminum for the taper adapter as it is a rotating part and not a stationary like a head gasket. You may as well use tin foil and jb weld if you go that route in my opinion, initial thickness of the aluminum will half I would guess. What about shaving it down further on either end and using a bigger "adapter fitting" that wouldnt be so small, like maybe 2mm? What did the guys at the machine shop say?

The shock mount works out fine w/ a 3.25 extension on the engine mount. It laid the angle down a bit but actually feels better than stock. The air shock will top it off.
I did get to the rotor today... I did make it w/ 6310 Alum. I got the usable fat end taper of 14.3mm, and the fat end of the rotor of 16.1mm. I cut a paper template, and then used that on some 1mm stock to cut the adapter.

The first one you see shaped on the bench was a trial to see that it could be done well. The following shots are of it installed inside the rotor, and again on the crank. It DID stick out too far from the aditional thickness of the stoch (1mm vs .9mm) but using an impact I was able to get it exactly in position. It is actually harder to remove than steel on steel. The alum deforms down into the key slot, and becomes semi permanent on the shaft. I like the way it worked out.

I supose I could have shimmed the fan but that was getting too far off track for me. I want easy. This whole Ign. has been hard to set up from the start. Finally some picts of the fan/shroud installed. It all fits. Between the CVT mods/ crank mod / Ign mods. I estimate 7-8 lbs have been removed from the drive train. This engine should have NO trouble hitting MAX RPM in a second.

I attempted to weld my Engine mounts, and some small added bracing, and a wire Feed welder doesn't dent the steel of the frame. I have to bring it to a buddies shop for some Tig action this week. The next step is to time the Ign to TDC on the engine. I plan to pull the jug, and do some work on the piston, and Cyl skirts. I'll post it up as it happens. I also need to measure my durations and get an idea how this puppy is gonna perform.
I really thought I would be done by now... Oh well. Always one more tweak. Allways.

I appreciate the good words Wass... This build is never ending. I keep finding more to do. Depending on the durations I may mess w/ the jugs porting some more. I'm thinking of widening the Exh. by 6mm more to get 60% area on the port. Right now I am at 55% of the bore size. Up from 47% oem.

Thats a mean lookin engine alright. Its always all the small sh** that eats up the time. Dont know how many times i planned my day out in the garage, "ok, 1/2hr to do this, then couple of hours for that, spend an hour tweaking those and i got to take about 45 mins to paint them. Cool, that leaves the afternoon to chillax"............come 10pm and im still on No2 :D

Tig is the way to go welding on the frame permanently we found.
With opening the exhaust port up that much are you worried about ring life or are you like me and figure a good tear down every month or so is worth it? I need to take pics of the porting my neighbor did to one of his corsas exhaust, it looks monster.
I hope hpi sends you something for all this research and hard work, they really threw a monkey wrench in the mix. Seriously you did more R&D than they did on this one it seems. Do you know if the kit you got was also for a honda dio engine? AF16/AF18?
Ive noticed small differences between the kymco zx50 block and the dio af16/18. non interchangeable starter, charging system, engine cover etc, cvt cover etc.
Where do i find the neat fan shroud inlet thing you have? Ive seen a lot of people with them lately. Whatever extra edge to help cool these little AC engines helps.

The "collet was pretty easy... I have a body hammer with a 5* taper. The crank is 5.5*. I just hel it on the hammer, and rolled it on an anvil. Once it was close enough I inserted it into my OEM flywheel, and drove it home using the taper cut off an old crank. I left it wider than nesc. so I could pull it out, and trim to size. I do have to check it for run out with a dial indicator but I am confident it will be perfect.
I pretty much change rings every few months anyway so I'm not concerned about wear. This is just a weekend track ride anyway. Maybe once or twice on the street but not a daily driver. I'm sticking to 4t's for daily now. Much cheaper to run, and 4-5 times as reliable. I've read that 70% area is the optimal for the corsa's exhaust opening. I'm gonna creep up on that to be sure. I may end up getting the MID size Scorpion pipe to handle that but I'm not sure yet.
The DIO is the same crank as the ZX so the issue will be the rotor. They have the ZX listed as a direct application but Willy told me the 15.5mm rotor is the smallest they have. I do have to call to double check why... Maybe they quit making a 14.5? IDK! I'm sure the rest of the kit will fit. The stator mounting plate is adjustable for several applications, and being aluminum it is easy to re work if needed.

Just a few of those fan shrouds... I have no temp gauge on the Cyl head so I can not say it adds more air but all the race bikes use them. It really HAS to force more air over 40 or so mph... I actually had mine pull the screws off at 60mph, and had to screw/glue it on.

Look closer... There's actually three cats in that mix. One is part white, and is easiest to find. The other all you see is a tail. It's under the puppies. I think there's only 8 of the puppies in the pict too. 3 more somewhere. We're looking right at Izzac so this wouldn't have been the best time for hanging out anyway. I'm about 300 yards off the gulf. and 4-5' above Mean high tide. The RV park is ON the gulf. It may get interesting here in a few days. Lots of boat work in the next few months if it happens.

I got the tach today. 7-8 weeks later... Wrong tach. I ordered a 16k, black dial, red needle, 52mm opening. I got a white face, black needle, 12k tach. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Now I have to reorder. (nuther company of course)
Anyone need a 12k tach? I paid 30.00 bucks but will take 20. If you're interested I will post up a pict. It also came with a chrome housing, and hardware for mounting it on the mirror post between the mirror, and the lever.
Don't get me wrong... It's a nice tach but I hit the pipe at 11,500, and don't start to fall off till 13-14k. 12k is useless to me.

That's a great idea posting up the vendors involved as well as all the contributers to this build. I had TONS of inspiration, and advice that made this happen.
I forgot if I mentioned this... Last week I had access to an arc welder (stick). I was pretty sure the frame is chromolly (chrome alloy) so I got a box of appropriate sticks. FAIL!!! The alloy is SOOOO high in chromium you can see it develop cracks as it cools. I'm embarrassed to post the picts... but I will tonight. Then I noticed something else... The engine mount assembly on my scoot was simply tacked in at four corners. It was never finish welded in place. So now a new set of issues. Do I get a new frame or replace the entire engine carrier with a custom one?
I have the frame at a shop called Crosby's in Wakulla (Tarzans real life home). They are going to offer me up a few options. Having the engine dis mount would not be considered a goal. At least I have a new target date for completion... Oct 27th. New speed trial week at the air strip. This may be a good time for some of my NC friends, and others to bring some scoots down, and run for some documented times.
All I lack now is a frame. I'll post the picts later.

Forgot to mention... The runway is 5,300'. I hope it is long enough for what I need...I'd hate to roll off the throttle before getting my true top speed. i think you should have no probs hitting top speed on the ZX...you have plenty of space. be good if you blew some cars away with the ZX...i know you will be blowing minds then scoopin em up with a spoooon.

Interested in selling the frame? Mine will be fine w/ a few mods but I'd like an OEM as a spare. Also another engine mount. I have a few ideas I'd like to try...

How do you want to go about getting the frame? It's probably a lot to ship it. I know my neighbor can drive to deliver it but I think its a bit on the gas. Wish I knew someone going to Fla. I'd give you a good deal on it for sure. Maybe just a trade even.

Ok... Here it is AGAIN.
The original Ruima Stuffer crank (44mm stroker). Stage6 Clutch, Jasil Top Racing Var. Scorpion pipe (Thanks Cynyo).
MHR secondary gear set (Thanks Steve). Diabolos front, and rear. Malossi brakes front, and rear, Agility dual piston caliper. Bando belt. OKO 24mm flatslide. Pod filter.MHR intake. Boysen home made 2 stage reeds. All that custom case porting.
The Polini Corsa did 82MPH at just a partial tune. I ran out of time (and clutch pads) before I could tune it correctly.
Had to run as is, and got 82@ 13500 rpm.
I put the bike up for a few weeks, and decided to down gear. I had both the Malossi primaries, and the MHR secondaries installed. Final ratio was 6:1 or 5.7:1 top be exact. To brutal to ride on the street.
I pulled out the primaries, and rode it 4-5 times. One gallon of premix lasted about 15 miles so it was like filling a car once a week. I went thru 60 gallons, ad all the Spectro Platinum 32 I had stockpiled at 14 dollars a pint.
Soooo new bug in my ass. Time to pull it out for this years Speed Week in October.
The Corsa has just barely broken in, and is a GREAT top end performer. 14000 is no joke just under your baby maker. I decided I need more torque to stop slipping the clutch below 40MPH. More torque means more cc's No way around it.
BacK to JiangWayne, and the Tadia Motors 50mm jug. My last 50mm was a Rumia. Broke both the skirts in a month.
I spent 5 hours on the phone with Kevin. He is their new Rep.. We worked a deal. He had them send 4 cylinders so I could hand pick the best of the best that they picked.
Now the fun begins... I copied the porting from the Corsa into the Tadia, and let loose with the dremel. in an hour I had raised the side inlets 4mm, and opened them both directions by 12mm total. I cleaned up the boost but left it as is for shape because it is the largest boost port of any of the Dio cylinders. The exhaust I simply polished. It was perfect out of the box.
One stock base gasket, one note paper base gasket, and oe 0.4mm aluminium shim got me a squish of 0.7mm. Right in between detonation, and no real power.
I pulled the spark plug, and added an ounce of Spectro Platinum. More fun... I spun that engine for 15 minutes with a 1/2" drill, and a socket on the crank. It got to where I could sin it by hand. Beautiful.
Now one ounce of premix ready to go... Spun it until the vapors stopped, and installed the plug.
Pulled the CDI to verify the timing curve I had for the Corsa. 15* for 0 -1500 rpm / 25* from 1501-5000 / 32* from 5001-9000 / 35* from 9001-9500 / 20* from 9501-11000 / 25* from 11,001-14,000.
Plugged the CDI in, installed the kill switch, one kick! Warmed it up for 2-3 minutes, adjusted the idle, and found the pilot was too rich. 1/2 a turn on the air screw.
Shut it down, rejetted (50 pilot), three kicks, and perfect. 2 1/2 turns on the air screw.
Tried to ride, and too lean on the mid/needle/main. Move the needle up, still lean. Bigger main.. too rich. Original main (150), and a thinner needle. Better but still too lean. went to a straight thin needle (no taper), perfect.
Went to leave the drive, and shot dirt all over my porch. TORQUE!
Babied it for a few laps around the block, and hit Hwy98. 50/60/70/80mph, and still not at WOT. Turned around, 40-50 home, and shut it down.
Retorqued all the bolts, tightened the intake, and carb., back on the loop. 60-70MPH at 1/2 throttle. Thats 10MPH better than the Corsa.
Went to my buddies in Eastpoint. 15 miles of varied throttle. We had a beer, and he wanted to see how fast it is.
He got in the van, and I rode in front of him. Around 85 on the speedo I could hear detonation. Timing is too far advanced. I pull over, and close the air screw stalling a idle but just enough fuel to cool the detonation at 85MPH.
87/88/89 on the speedo, and I back out. The Yamaha speedo I installed goes to 90. It's off by 3MPH high. The cops radar verified this lat last years Speed Week.
Jonny tells me the speedo in his van said 96MPH. We laughed, had a few more beers, and here I am. Back home with my bike cooling off.
I have the bike running better than ever. The CDI will be reprogrammed tonight, and the carb reset.
I'll post up later tonight to get caught up. It's been brutally busy for me, and hotter than hell. I can't figure it out but somehow I'm gaining weight, and all I do is sweat all day. Maybe it's the beer and hotdogs. I doubt that tho.
That's good food right there.

Awesome Z! 90+ is at your doorstep. Looking at this thread it just makes me wish some of the old boys (slinger, vivo, streido.....and even axy) were still around to read about it.

I've tried to get in touch w/ Vivo a few times but he sort of faded out. The rest I know are fine.

Last night after posting I went for a quick spin. I started to hear a "growling" in the engine. Like a bad bearing somewhere. I'm praying it is nor a crank bearing, and hoping it is back in the clutch. Maybe the tranny input bearing or the clutch needle rollers...
I love the bike when it's running well but HATE it the rest of the time. Well, I guess they don't just fly the Space Shuttles around till something breaks. It's part of the deal.

I could use a few things... Like that doohicky that says "do not turn" other other one that says "LOL Yeah Right".
Maybe some engine parts. I wonder how big the pistons are?
