I didn't know the EU was that old, thought it got it's start in the late 90's or 00's. Also didn't think England was part of it being they still use the Pound and the rest use Euro.

I didn't know the EU was that old, thought it got it's start in the late 90's or 00's. Also didn't think England was part of it being they still use the Pound and the rest use Euro.

EU have existed since 1945, although not in the form we know it today.
At first, it was Belgium, Luxemborg, France, West-germany and the nederlands, who joined in what was called the european steel and coal companionship, and this companionship was build to insure high prices of steel and coal to insure growth after the war. If this companionship wasn't founded, the coal and steel prices would drop through the bottom, leaving everyone bankrupt, as the production of steel had increased massively during the war, and Europe needed to be rebuild, not to be bankrupt.

Later more and more countries joined in, and they changed name to European Union, as they expanded the products to envolve many other things. Now EU have influence on Borders, Economics, Laws and production standarts in all of its countries, exept Denmark, which have not agreed to 4 points:
 - Union citizenship
 - The third degree of the economical union, where the country starts to use the Euro as an official currency. Instead our currency are 7,4 times lower value and can go up or down with 2%. This enables economical flexability.
 - Military union.
 - Courts.

EU is mostly an economical union, but the countries in this union have more or less agreed to have some standart rules, so it starts to look more and more like USA, where there are one union with several states in it. Exept Denmark, where most of the citizens (including me) think that USA are very exaggerated in almost any way, so we dont want to end up like that. :D

England is not the UK, the UK is made up of Scotland (where i live), England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Its a common mistake people make to confuse UK with England, ive even been asked "Oh you come from Scotland? Thats in England right?" Wrong? Thats like saying Canada is in the USA.

At present England like to think they are i overall charge of all UK member states, if you imagine each of the 4 members are like states in the US that gives you the idea, each state has its own various laws and differences in how they run things but ultimately they can be overruled on many things by London, same as your state system where Washington is in overall control.

The UK as a whole are members of the EU and have elected politicians in the European Gov but are not full members like say France or Germany who adopted the Euro and have both feet in the Eurozone. The UK kinda has one foot in but one foot out, they want to have their cake and eat it too. For some reason the English have an aversion to losing their £ or fully joining Europe  ??? If i was a European politician from outside the UK i would want the UK either fully in or fully out, but for whatever reason nobody complains much in Eurooe about it?

Scotland has its own parliment, national health service, laws, all totally seperate to England. We are having a referendum here (Scotland only) in 2014 to decide if we want to remain in the UK or become our own independent nation, hopefully we will leave and regain full control over our own nation again after 300 years of living under English rule. If we go then i fully expect Northern Ireland to push for the same and finally we can have a united Republic of Ireland again and end the British occupation there which causes so much anger and troubles in the past. After that Wales will want leave and the UK will be no more  :)

So to answer the original question, the UK is half in Europe, half out, its a crazy and stupid situation  ??? If Scotland gains independence i expect we will fully join, England still wont, Northern Ireland will if they can re-unite with the southern Republic of Ireland as the Republicis already a full member and use the Euro, Wales, i dont know.

This will help explain the UK and is also pretty funny too  :)

Pretty confusing and f***ed up eh?

Just want to add,

I am NOT British no matter how many times the English government try to tell me i am.  :)
I do not recognise the authority of the English government to rule over me.  :)
I bow to no queen or king, especially a non Scots one, a Scottish one would be bad enough but an English queen? No thanks, keep her.  ;D

Hope this helps a little  ;)

Thanks for the education, I did know that but it escaped me, getting old I guess. I am no tin favor of the (New) EU and am thinking much of the member citizens were not in favor either as the powers that are in charge let some citizens take a vote and others in charge did not allow the citizens to vote.

To me it's another giant step towards a one world gov., and new world order. Not that I hold it against any country to want to be able to compete with larger countries through buying power etc. But just as NAFTA has not worked in the US, Mexico, and Canada I don't think the EU is working for all involved accross the Atlantic. I'm waiting for them to organize Africa, that will be alot of fun.

I fully believe we NEED a global one voice to sort out some important issues like climate change etc on a global scale ( i know global warming is all evil lies to some Americans but to most or almost all in Europe it is a fact beyond debate).

The EU is better to take control of issues like that where seperate countries cant agree and the debate ends up getting nowhere due to some countries being too concerned with economic growth and making more money than their neighbour does, rather than keeping our planet healthy, its going to be difficult to grow economically if we have to spend ever day pumping the rising sea water out our factories and buildings 1st.

Some times it can get all bogged down in Bureaucracy, but over all it seems to work not too bad really. It does have many good points as well as a few bad, but overall im prob for it myself. I am a European after all anyway, my country whether that be classed as Scotland or UK is contained within Europe no matter what i want to think and we all need to get along or its all f**ked for everyone.

Im just not Brtish, thats all   ;D

Without getting too deep into the global warming/climate change issue here in America we have a solid mistrust of our politicians (for very good reason) many of us see the "climate change" issue as just another way of banging us for more taxes and contributing towards a one day global gov.

Keep in mind the upcoming tax they want to hit us with, "Carbon tax" you get to have "X" amount of carbon output per yr. after you max that amount out you pay for any additional carbon you put out. If you boat or have a delivery service you will have to buy more carbon credits, all in an effort to stop what they can't even prove and what many have lied to maintain as fact. Forging documents to "prove" a point does not exactly say "above board" to most people.

08087:

Actually it started in 1958.

17 EU members use Euro, 10 (lucky ones) do not.

Streido:

A bit of trivia. In my language, England is considered to be a synonym for United Kingdom and Great Britain and "English people" is term commonly used for everybody who are not Irish. All people living south of Northern Ireland are here Englishmen=British. I would say the situation might be similar to everybody over here being "Slavs" in UK, even though there are probably 15-20 Slavic countries and nations. :)

So, when you say either of these toponyms, people automatically think - "an island in the ocean". There is not much distinction. Wales/Scotland are seen as geographic counties/districts/areas.

One more trivia, Scottish people are a subject of some jokes and proverbs here for being cheap/miser. :) The same attribute is given to our local people living on islands by the people living on mainland. Is there any truth to it, how did that come into our language? :) :) :)

I have been working with a number of Scottish people over the past decade. Oh boy, they can talk when they drink one drink too many.  ;D ;)
Also, I understand more Dutch or French language even though I do not speak them than one single agitated/nervous Scotsman! :)

We already have that carbon tax here now, started earlier this yr. For me thats a good thing, we cant keep pumping crap into the enviroment at our current rates, well we can but again it will end up in a broken sick planet.

I dont trust many politicians either, theyre mostly all in it to make themselves rich and take backhanders and directorships from businesses. Actually tho its scientist who can prove climate change is reality, with no doubt. The confusion can come from whether the climate change is man-made or is a natural event that is nothing to do with man. Personally i dont care where it comes from, i just want to stop or limit its effects on us all and really the only way to do that is to cut carbon emmissions or use science (which we dont have yet) to fix or reverse tbe damage and emmissons we produce.

You dont want to give alcohol to a Scotsman, if you so treat him like a firework, light fuse and stand well back to watch the explosion  ;D

Yeah, we like to drink, and then drink more, but surprisingly enough i actually rarely drink myself  anymore :-\ At most i would say i go get drunk maybe 3-4 times a year these days, i just cant sit there getting plastered when i have other things to do, and besides we cant drive kr ride under the influence, you just fall asleep or get in a fight. Not for me, im too old now, been there, done that, got the medal for it and moved on.

The misery Scot thing is a complete myth, prob dreamed up by some Englishman no doubt to try keep us down and dampen out Celtic spirit. It didnt work. If anything Scots are among the most generous and open people you will meet, even when drunk. We will stop and help anyone we see in trouble, are always open to new cultures and foreign immigrants, and would share out last can of beer with the guy next to us who has none  :D

A little tip, NEVER call anyone from the Irish Republic British  :o Thats actually as bad as saying Scotland is in England, in fact its probably worse given all the troubles over there in the past with the IRA etc fighting to get the Brits out, which they did  :) It is confusing for foreigners but anyone who moves here or Ireland would soon realise we ARE seperate nations with many many differences in our priorities,  our wants and our needs. This is why we would be far better to split the Union, divorce our countries in a pleasant way and move on with our lives seperately, we dont get on much now, we have different ideals as nations.

Btw, did you know if Scotland were to gain independence we would become the 7th wealthiest nation on earth?

I wouldnt use the world Slav either, in my mind thats certain areas of Russian? Probably wrong? Croats, or Serbs is what i would use, i still remember Yugoslavia tho, my mate even had one of those tiny Yugo cars in the early 90's  :D

If you happen across any McKinnens... That's my moms side.
The whole topic makes it fairly easy to see the issues created. Just like the US ruling Canada. No reason for it in todays world. Back in the day getting tax/resources meant power. Today it means greed. Weapons now have unlimited range so it is Much better to rule your own house, and let your neighbor rule his.
Say hey for me.

A coworker of mine from Scotland and I were in 2005 for five weeks in the same hotel in the third country. My routine was to get the work done and go back to the room. His was to spend the evening around hotel bar. Sometimes if I would meet him it would take an hour to walk from hotel bar to our rooms because he was talking, and talking and talking, and talking some more, and I could barely understand 15 % of what he was saying. I am used to listening to various accents, from American, Australian to African and Indian because I work with 120 nationalities and we use English as official language, but this particular accent was very difficult to comprehend. I think he was from Glasgow.

Miser stuff - just wanted to share with you that God knows when this idiom "cheap as a Scotsman" (rough translation) has entered our language. This is strange because we as a nation have no historical ties to UK.

Ireland - I am quite well educated/informed about the world in general and especially about Europe, your internal country's organization is familiar to me and I understand the situation in Northern Ireland. I have been following it since I was a child (I was always interested in strange things).

Slavs - Well, what do you think where does "Yugoslavia" come from? :) "Yugo" means "south" in our languages. We are south Slavs and there are many other, Russians/Belarusians/Ukranian are eastern Slavs. It is a very long story but I am not sure that dividing any country will bring prosperity. Yugoslavia fell apart 20 years ago and we STILL DID NOT reach the level of industrial output from 1990. Two lost decades. Economy of volume is a great thing, I am against you falling apart because I saw first hand what happens when one big country falls apart to 6-7...  >:(

Yugo car - think of it as a local version of Reliant Robin or Morris Marina.  ;D

p.s. My company has an office in Aberdeen.

Global warming, just another way of putting space between you and you money.

Thats the problem 08', i could easily post up just as many links as i wanted too that would disagree with those against climate change and prove its real. I've been pretty much into this kinda thing for a while now, looking into renewables and low energy use electrics etc ( Im an electrical engineer by trade) so i have read to up on it. I actually just applied for a new job last week in an energy management role to work with our company in reducing our carbon footprint to comply with new carbon emmissions accreditation. We need to reduce our carbon emmisions by 2% per year and i need to work out how to do this, if i get the job that is  :)

Its actually a little bit of a myth that it cost you money to reduce your carbon output, in fact it can save you money in most cases. We spend £4,000,000/yr at our yard on just power and water, £4,000,000 every year  :o  If we reduce our carbon utput we also reduce the cost of paying for so much power and water , o it actually saves us money i the longrun as well as reducing our carbon footprint and emmissions,we dont lose, we gain , and so does the planet  :)

Its like the 60's all over again with the smoking/tobacco debate, big business who have interests in ignoring the dangers of climate change will and do support and fund all sorts of reports/papers/"scientists" to put out their arguement and deny the danger, all to cause confusion, delay change and keep the money rolling in. I have NO doubt climate change is real, its happening nowand we need to try at least to do something about it. I will accept that science cannot 100%say it is man-made but whether it is or not doesnt matter to me, its stiil happening and we still need to do what we can to deal with it before its too late,if its not too late already :-\

Scotland aims to run of 100% renewable energy by 2020-2025, hopefully we'll make it. How excellent is that? All power created for free after the infrastructure and devices are in place. No nuclear, no dirtycoal or oil,and no need to import from dodgy countries with questionable leaderships? Works for me.  :)

We were voted the worlds knife-crime capital of the world a few years ago and then topped it by getting the murder capital of Europe later   :D Next year we're going for Murder capital of the world ::)

Its actually fine tho, when you live here you know where to go and where to avoid, who you can trust and who is out to make bother. We have an inbuild instinct to sniff out when a fight is about to break out and can get the hell out the way  :D Its mostly scheme related violence, street gans etc in poor areas, every city has the same bother but like you say,we like our alcohol (& drugs) so add that and it ends in chaos and mayhem.

Personally I don't know how anyone can say going green or solar, wind etc is a bad thing, taking polutants out of the air by not putting them there in the first place is good for everyone. I still disagree that there is any warming that needs to be addressed, and I respect you for your opinion.

That was f@@ked up,shouldnt have happened,it was stupid and wrong and did serious damage to that reports credibility. The folk responsible admit they felt frustrated that all the data and reports before had gone unheaded and ignored for so long and the debate was just rumbling on getting nowhere, like i pointed out big oil and gas corps dont want to lose their cash cow so hire people to debunK  and put out dis-information to confuse and distract so they can keep the dollars rolling in. The exact same tactics used by the big tobacco companies, "smoking does'nt cause cancer, thats ridiculous, prove it", then when doctors proved it the companies tried and succeeded for decades to delay change by debunking and spreding dis-information. The scientists tried to make it so the politicians etc would listen so they "sexed it up a bit" to try get fol to start doing something and stop messing about.

If you look at the whole overall picture you can see that something is definately happening in our climate, its changing for sure. Man-made or not its changing. Even if your of the opinion its not, surely its better if we can still function more or less as we do now without producing so much carbon, or burning so much oil and gas and creating so much pollution, to do so. If nothing else each country would have in-house generated power, no more oil and gas imports from outside,we would all be self-sufficient. No more wars over oil. No more reliance on foreign tin-pot regimes. And as a bonus, if climate change is real then it helps that too.  :)

A little trivia for you Axy  :)

1.     Overall Wealth: An independent Scotland would be ranked 6th in the OECD in terms of GDP per head, compared to the UK's sixteenth place (in 2010).

2.      Oil: There is up to 24 billion barrels remaining in the North Sea. Such a figure equates to a wholesale value of some £1.5 trillion in today's prices.

3.      Renewables: Scotland has around 25 percent of Europe’s potential offshore wind and tidal energy, and a tenth of Europe’s wave power potential.

4.      Food & Drink:  The latest food and drink export figures show exports are at an all time high of £5.4 billion, and growing.

5.      Public Finances: In terms of our public finances, Scotland is better off than the UK as a whole to the tune of £510 for every man, women and child in Scotland in the most recent year (2010/11).

6.      Education: Scotland has five of the top 200 universities in the world.

7.      90% of the UK's natural resources are in Scottish waters and on Scottish land. Wonder why they dont want to lose us yet?

I couldn't survive another Eth. battle so I will just drib, and drab.
Just my gut/heart tells me that England is the only country that would suffer in a break up of "THEIR" empire. The rest of the countries they attempted to rule would prosper due to a release of burden to England. None of these countries ever benefited from England's presence anyway. I understand the Slavic countries misfortune on separation because they were all dependent on each other, where England was the only beneficiary in it's gambit. I personally see separation as a great step forward into a new era in world civilization. It would release so much old animosity, and ill will that a new begining can develop vs stagnation, and continued resentment. IF England collapses into a lessor nation I say KARMA! Truthfully , and with NO disrespect to anyone England has a lot of repaying to do before they can restructure, and take part in the world as it should be. They have never been anything as a role model or world power or anything substantial in the post WWI era anyway. Too much Hooidie Tooidie pompas old school retention, and not enough forward momentum in MY opinion. Bullies Always grow old, and die. That's just the way it is.
Besides the US will starve its social security program to help poor England recover. And you ALL know England will ask.
I'm not saying this with malice of heart, I'm just cutting to what I see as the core of the problem. Karma!

This is very interesting, especially the part about BDP per capita. I can tell you that Scotland is not adequately branded outside of UK. For example, many people in USA are proud of their "stubborn Irish heritage", but you can rarely hear about their "Scottish heritage". Also, Scotland is known for its Scotch whiskey and William Wallace :), kilts and bagpipes. It should be more "advertised".

Separatism is all over Europe. Just remember Spanish people and Basque people, separatism in the North of Italy or recent attempts to divide Belgium into Flemish and Valoon countries.

Actually you would be surprised how many Americans DO know of their Scottish History and DO celebrate it. There is even Scottish events in the US too, im sure there was a huge parade thing in NY a couple of years ago to promote Scotland. Every year we get masses of American tourists to the Scottish Highlands and also Stirling is popular (thanks to William Wallace and the Braveheart movie) Edinburgh is popular too.

I dony know how many Americans i met on f.b in the past who had Scots or Irish ancestry, but it was a lot  :)

I think we do ok, but as an independent nation we would do a lot better, im sure of it.

Well, Irish people sold their story just nicely. Even here, St. Patrick's day became sort of an unofficial holiday. (!) Of course it has a lot to do with alcohol and selling stuff and little with true heritage celebration...

Yeah the Irish got it nailed. I love the Irish too. We have lots of Irish blood where i live too, the area i grew up in was known as "Little Ireland"  :D

Glasgow, in fact the whole of the West coast of central Scotland has a large Irish immigrant community, they came across looking for work and a better life for the last few centuries. We have always been close that way, even had Irish clans fighting with Scottish clans against the English a loooooong time ago, thats why Scots and Irish get along so well, the French too, they gave our Bonnie Price Charlie  somewhere to live when he was exiled from Scotland, we dont forget our friends  :)

I still remember folk with collection tins going round here collecting for the Irish Republicans when i was a kid, it was just normal to us. And then of course we have the Glasgow Celtic vs Glasgow Rangers football rivalry which is a legacy from that Catholic/Republican vs Protestant/Unionist thing in Ireland. Like you i was interested in the whole issue and studied it in some detail, only i saw most of it 1st hand growning up.

St paddys day is more about selling Guinness these days than anything else tho, maybe us Scots should build up St Andrews day to sell more of our whiskey  :)

I did not know you were getting along well with the Irish. The main reason for my thinking is the fact that Scotland is predominantly protestant and Irish are Catholic. I thought that differences are irreconcilable, especially considering the situation between the Nationalists and Unionists in the Northern Ireland. I understand that there is even a Scottish minority called Ulster Scots in Northern Ireland.

Do you speak any Gaelic? I know that less than 1% of Scottish people do. Also I wonder if people from Ireland can understand Gaelic people from Scotland considering that both languages have their roots in the medieval Middle Irish. We have a similar situation where almost all Slavs can understand each other to a degree, ranging from some understanding (comparable to you Brits :), sorry :), Scotsmen, listening to pidgin English speaker from Papua, for example), to almost completely similar languages (Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian).

Actually the west coast where i live is pretty evenly mixed with both catholic and protestant, most of Scotland is. I dont knowthe exact figures but i would maybe give the protestants the slight edge on population overall, its not that wide a gap tho, where i work is probably 50/50. Up north in the Highlands and Islands is more protestant still i guess, some of the small islands are hardcore protestant and wont work on sundays etc, it all closes down for the day, they even complained about ferry and plane services running to their island on a sunday. Prob the same as island near you, they seem pretty backward and stuck in the past, comes from living cut odf from "nirmal" modern life i guess.

Personally i dont speak gaelic at all, i used to know a few words but i forgot them now. We do have Gaelic schools etc tho for those whi want it. Gaelic was never really spoken in Lowland Scotland, it was more a Highland thing, we just spoke Scots, thats a kind of mixture of English, with a gaeoic twist on some words etc, prob why you and others dont understand us  :D If we talk to non Glaswegians we tend to slow down and change how we speak, more English like, but amoungst ourselves when we speak normal Glaswegian/Scots at normal speed you wpuld be pretty lost, like that drunk guy you know  :D

The Scots and Irish have a long history together, were like cousins. Many of our surnames are from Irish decent now and some Irish have Scots surnames from all the population movements in the past. If you know about the troubles in Ireland you will remember the IRA bombing campaign in the 70's-80's where they decided if Britain wasnt going to leave Ireland then theywould start bombing Britain and make them leave. They did loads of attacks but if you notice, not one attack happened in Scotland? Thats because so many Irish grouos relied upon Scottish support,we had and stil do have the catholic side supporting a free-united Ireland and the protestant side supoort the British keeping Northern Ireland British. We have marching bands etc like they do in Ireland for both sides who still parade here every year, its crazy  :-\ In fact the Loyal Orange Order (protestant loyalists) have MORE marches in Scotland than Ireland  :-\ Go figure that one out?

I'm personally not a big fan of religion, but maybe you can tell me what the big beef is between the Catholics and Protestants. It was never explained well if at all in my US schools and if I talk with someone here about it they have a US slant on what the truth is.

It may be too much to get into here but an edited version would help.

Thanks!

My mum was catholic and my dad was protestant so i kinda escaped religious teaching since they couldnt agree i guess what to raise me  :-\ Neither of tjem were big on religion really either, my dad maybe was more so than my mum. Luckily i escaped that stuff as a kid.

It was one of those old English kings that forbid catholicism, and started the protestant church. C O E as it's referred to. The Idea was the same as always... an attempt to change the culture, and assimilate its people. All the beliefs are the same it's just some observances that differ.
I don't associate with protestants.

I think Zombies got the jist of it there. I seem to remember something about Maybe Henry 8th or someone going for it as catholics couldnt divorce and he was a horny bugger who had loads of wives. I may be wrong tho.

It amazes me England ever got past the sandbox never mind conquering foreign lands. Not to simply insult but every thing they did was based on WRONG (lack of a better word). It is the same still. That so called Prince Charles... What a F'n FOOL! Could have sat comfortable for the rest of his life, and had the opportunity to create soooooo much good in the world, but would rather have his wife murdered so he could have an inbred trolll suck his pee pee. One thing for England... Their priorities have NEVER changed.  F'n inbreds. Let them fall. I'll be first in line for the Pee on England's grave parade.

I think the whole thing was more to do with regaining control of the population from Rome. Henry was a bastard, no doubt,  and he didnt like someone else, especially a foreigner, influencing HIS people so they formed the Church of England so he could tell the people what to do, thro his church of course. I think  :-\

Still dont now the differences tho btween them, different rules i guess different ways of worshipping and services  :-\ Must be like the Sunny and Shia muslm thing. Think most christians in the US are Evangelical now tho? Who knows where that one came from ::)

Not wanting to poke fun at anyones  belief, its all crazy to me  ???

They all profess that only their way is "gods" way, yet none can offer any proof and rely purely on faith. How can they all be right? If they cant then how do you decide which one to choose? Fact is you dont, itsa just whats passed down from your parents or where you where born that decides it. Hardly inspiring to me but each to his own. I got no problem with anyone believing anything as long as they dont expect or force me to believe it if i dont want to  :)

I have studied that topic and to be honest - no major difference. Most of them have to do with 2000 yr old stuff like religious scriptures, ceremonies etc. However, it does not take much for people to start hating each other just because they belong to different "groups". Football fans are the best example.

It's an argument on which is the true religion the Protestant Churches or Catholics. Protestants "protested" and denied authority of the Pope and had issues on the catholic doctrine. They believe that the bible is the only authority. Catholics on the other hand believe that authority starts from the Pope and history can prove it. They say that there is a clear line of succession from Jesus to the first Pope, Peter, and up to the present Pope. Anyway, that's just the tip of the iceberg and the battle goes on.

Streido, what is you and what seems to be general opinion of UKIP's Nigel Farage?

What is the position of UKIP within UK's political system? Is it a marginal party of influencial one?

I know that it has a substantial number of seats in European Parliament but they never won seats in the House of Commons.

Like WK says, UKIP is a bit of a fringe party, not mainstream at all and thought of as i kind of joke party for white middle class people who are a little anti-immigration but dont want to look too racist by voting for the BNP, at least thats how i see it anyway, a kind of lighter version of the BNP without the skinheads, BNP for adults maybe  :D. They dont campaign in Scotland really as we have little or no interest in any of their policies or plans up here. All i ever remember from their last election campaign in England was seeing Nigel Farage on TV constantly saying "Vote UKIP. We will keep the £. We will stop Europe messing in British acfakrs, blah, blah, blah". I dont know if Farage or the party is actually racist or not but they are Pro-British and seem to think England still has an empire to run, which it doesnt.

I saw farage on a tv political question panel show a few times and he usually talks nonsense or makes some stupid comment which is ripped apart and shown as complete crap by the interviewer or other guests. Personally i think Farage is just a little naive and not as intelligent as he thinks he is, he actually comes across as a little dumb to me.

No. He or his party have very little input or influence in the UK. Pundits seem to think they only get votes for European elections because in Emgland nobody really cares about the European parliment so they will vote for him as a kind of protest vote. I honestly dont know why he is goven the media attention he gets here  ??? He and his party are nothing in UK politcs really, just a distraction.

The guy who hates Europe and the European parliment so much would be out of a job without it, ironic and kinda funny really  :)

I am asking this question because everything he ever said about EU in the European Parliament was spot on.
I am extremely anti EU, the only time I voted was on our referendum in January when it was decided we will join EU next year.
In October 2011 he was invited to Croatia to hold a speech about EU: Sjednica zatvorenog tipa - budućnost Hrvatske, Nigel Farage, Croatia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mWX4uAOU24#ws)

However, I heard that he is a bit of an oddity in UK, so I wanted to check this fact from people living there.
This is an interesting duality, I guess.

I saw many his speeches on YT, and every time he gives Barroso and other EU puppets good kicking.
I especially liked him when he said to one bureaucrat that he has charisma of a damp cloth. :)

To be honest i pay him or his party little attention, it doesnt interest me what he thinks really. UKIP is more of an English party than a British one. I agree tho, he can make a good comment or point now and again. Of course he then usually goes and ruins it all by following it up with complete bollocks  :D

Nigel Farage IS UKIP, i am surprised the party is actually still going today. I assumed they would either give up or go bankrupt before now. A lot of the time he acts and talks as if he is a main player in the UK politics game when he isnt even a substitute, but thats just my opinion, other folk from England may feel differently about him and his party? To me he seems like a posh twit at times   :-\ but then i guess if he was so stupid he would not have lasted so long in politics as he has managed so far.

to be honest im not really one for the politics, there all as bad as each other. all of them make life harder, they tax the bollocks off of the public to pay for there cock ups just so they can fritter it away on sh** that dosnt benefit the people as a whole. party members are still shelling out tax payers money to bail out EU countries and a failing currency.
The more they shell out the more they slap us with tax but dont increase wages enough to compensate so everyone is trying to survive on peanuts. its now just a vicous circle and no amount of tax rises will ever right it. there needs to be a uprising against the goverment and there hypocritical bullsh**.
We are just cattle on there farm, we are bred to raise money for them and then were discarded when we have no use and then we still get slapped on pensions then we die, the circle keeps repeating and it wont change.
everything in this country is failing rapidly and with no way out i can only see ruin in the very near future.

Btw. you guys will be happy to find out that in my company people from UK/Australia are the highest paid ones. Easily in 10-11k € range for expat status. Then the French, 7-8k €, Italians/Croats, 5-6k €. I am talking about regular engineers, not the management, all expats.

Indians, Romanians, Bulgarians and people from Phillipines are lowest paid. However you can buy a good house there for the money we have to pay for a half decent car.

Not really... Just the way it has always been there. It is the same here in North Florida. The families here were soo remote from other people that inbreeding just happens. outsiders were looked on as lessor people or just unwelcome. Same with the "royals". The fact of the matter is it still continues whether by choice or accident... Remote populations just narrow the gene pool. I'm sure some of my ancestors are "closer" than most would want. Ireland is a relatively small island, and with the Clan system... who knows.
I don' know who is demented and who is not. I'm just being a general bigot towards those that can do great things but choose to f*ck, and kill instead. So to me they are ALL inbred trolls.

08087 - We all know Zombie and his ways so we know where he stands on things and we also know when hes being serious or taking tbe piss now, thats the difference. Had Zombie posted your Obama post we would know he was not having a go at Obama but the idiotic press and people who believe that nonsense, therefore he would not have been hassled etc. The fact is we know for all his bluster and bravado, underneath it all Zombie is just a big pussycat, kinda like an apple pie, hard on the outside but all warm and gooey inside  :D

I think the confusion came from not knowing you or your politics etc and thinking you may have been a touch right-wing/racist, we dont like that kind of crap around here. We're all equal here, your colour, creed or religion does not matter to me at all, what ever it is. With you being a relative newbie we're still trying to suss you out and find out where you stand on things and what you think etc.

Btw, the royals of England are actually of Hanovarian decent, (German), they used a similair system of arranged marriage that Muslims do now, where the parents decide who is best for their child and sorts out the union. No love involved, its all business.

We all think Camilla looks like a horse, only i doubt she would give you such a good ride  :D

The English are all inbred anyway,  just look at Whiteknight, he's the proof of the pudding  :P

Axy - Are you saying an engineer only gets paid €10-€11,000 in your company? Per year? If so then that is waaaaay low, for UK wages anyway. Where i work an engineer is paid £23-£25,000 per year for working 37 hrs a week with 5-6 wks holiday every year (not inc national holidays, we get them too).  Thats about €28-€31,000 a year we get here.

Indians, Romanians, Bulgarians and people from Phillipines are lowest paid.

...and probably the happiest... ;D

Most likely. However, being "lowest paid" does not have to be a negative thing.

My ex. colleague works now in Finland. He bought 60 m2 apartment for 500.000 EUR.
As we already spoke, my friend from your country bought a very nice house for 35.000 EUR.

We can now talk about quality of life and differences between Philippines and Finland, but I would say that my tagalog speaking friend is actually BETTER PAID than my colleague in Finland, if we account for the purchasing power parity in the equation! He can buy several times more goods than the other guy even though his salary is half of the salary of the other guy.

It`s monthly NET salary for British expats working here. Other numbers are for Croatian when they are expats working elsewhere.

Ah, well then that sounds good then, at least for the british expats.

I get what you mean about quality lf life too. I lived and worked in S.Africa for almost a year and a half and tho i got a good wage by S.A standards, if i converted it to £'s then i earned less than i did as an apprentice. The cost of living was a lot cheaper in S.A so i could lead a comfortable life for way less than i needed in Scotland. The only problem came when i left to return home, when i converted my saving to £'s i had very little. I did have a good time there tho so it was worth going.

No this is an explanation I can accept. As for Pricess Di being a lady I'd have to agree until the end. She knew full well that the Royal family were cold blooded killers and she was warned about dating the Arab guy (Jodi Fayed) spelling, let alone maybe getting prenent by him. She choose to do the wrong thing and paid for it. It's kind of like the mob, you get in but you never fully get out unless it's dead. What's worse is she wasn't born into it she choose to become part of it, her family was well enough off to advise her on what she was getting into. A shame 20 yr olds don't listen.

Thanks, it goes a long way. Just so you all get a better feel for me I'll lay a bit out for you all. I do lean towards the right in my politics, I prefer Ron Paul for pres if you know anything about him you'll know what I like about him. Obama and Mitt are one in the same and America is in serious trouble no matter which one takes office. I'm well aware of the royal's background and that Prince Charles is in fact Greek if I'm not mistaken.

For what it's worth I'm American from Germany, Wales and American Indian. Keep in mind it's not wwhat a woman looks like in the end it's what she brings to the table that matters, for Charles Di didn't do it anymore, Camilla must. Doesn't mean I like her anymore then you just that Charles finds something appealing in her and that's what matters to him.

The next election her is one I am NOT participating in. There really is no point... Now Jessie Ventura were to run I would. We need an average Joe that cannot be bought. I'm not saying this as an undereducated putz that believes wrestling is real either. The US needs a super dupper twisto flex supplex body slam, and who better than Jessie. I Did vote Obama, and am very disappointed in him. I feel cheated/lied to. The MAIN reason I voted was his apparent stance on the Gulf war. It should have ended, and If he realized he was over his head he should have come out, and siad so. Maybe ASK the American people for advice/help. That's the way we were founded, and supposed to have remained... Oh well!
 Welcome back 008!
I DO feel kinda warm, and gooey...inside.

As an outsider i was over the moon when Obama got in, i really thought he was going to change the world for the better after G.W almost destroyed it. Like Zombie says tho, he failed to deliver on so many fronts i can only describe his 1st term as a failure. I totally accelt he was left a crock of sh** by Bush and also had the economic downturn to deal with but he sold out within the 1st yr as far as i can see. Gitmo's still open, "prisoners" there still are not tried in a proper court of law, war still rages in Afghanistan, Iraq is f***ed, the poor are poorer, the rich are richer, Israel still has too much sway over US foreign policy (who knows why?), whatever you think of the Occupy movement it was a mass call for change but he basically ignored it and the big bonuses etc continue, promised "Obamacare" but failed, he just seems to talk a good game then fails to deliver the goods.  I could go on but im sure as Americans you all know where he failed. I have no doubt he has been a million miles better than Palin/McCain wouldve been for the US and the world, had McCain won then you would prob be in Iran right now, bogged down in another unwinable war.

I just wish the US president and the UK prime minister would stop talking sh** and do something to improve things. Change our foreign policies, stop trying to rule the world, bullies never win in the longrun,  just try being f***ing nice to people for a change and see how that works?

If i was American i would prob vote Obama, not because i think he is perfect but because he seems tbe least bad of all the crowd on offer. I dont know much about Ron Paul but i have heard a lot of Americans saying what 08087 says, he seems to impress a lot of people. Then again would he not just sell out like the rest once he got in? I believe Obama is a good man at heart and means well, but he is being mis-advised or has lost touch with the people who put him in power. Power corrupts, its true.

I receive an equivalent of around 11,000 Euros a year here (Philippines). Have a nice 4 bedroom 2-storey house, 3 cars, 2 bikes, 5 TVs, 15 wrist watches, children enrolled in private schools... and thinking of buying a small place near the beach for retirement... life's good...

If you want to adopt me Vivo ... I'll cook! My dogs are cool, and I;ll even watch the garden for you!

"Israel still has too much sway over US foreign policy (who knows why?),"
The Why is the water. That Gulf place Pakistan sits on. Since the US is vested in stealing other peoples oil... We need a way to get it out. Simple math Bro! That's the ONLY reason we PRETEND to give a rats arse about the middle east. We need a shipping lane!
We SURE didn't care when the 2 Hitlers were clearing it out for us. We STILL don't. It's the road to Freedom over there. As long as we can steal their oil, and ship it out ... Why use ours?
Even the Floppy headed Canadians are hip to our sh*t! They are keeping OUR oil under their dirt!!! Rat Bastards!
I hope I didn't offend anyone. I'm American, and it don't matter anyway... We RULE! (just like England did) once... for a global second...maybe.

F*ck it! America is a rats ass lying son of a bit(h nation that deserves what it's GOING to get. In MY heart/soul... My family always has been, and ALWAYS will be IRISH!

G'day America!
