Here is my problem. Wife's ZX-50 has broken crankshaft. I can take engine out, but i believe replacing crankshaft is above my skill level. Looking at Kymco manual it looks like I have to press it out with some special crankshaft tool. I have alread bought several special tools (Flywheel puller, Air impact wrench) to get it down to the point where I could diagnose the problem. I have contacted Kymco Delears who would repair it, but its almost not worth it for the price they charge Labor/Parts. So I'm looking for ZX-50 engine rebuild. Very hard to find online anybody thats in US. I heard talk and looked at pictures of DIO engines and they look almost exactly like hers. I would love a drop in replacement, no modifications. We paid $800 3.5 years ago for the bike and she just loves the big frame, tires, handling etc. of the ZX-50 compared to my Honda scooter Elite 80 which has small tires, no handling, but faster. She call's my Elite a Bitch Bike! There's gobs of Honda Elites on Craigslist, but man not many Kymco's and when I find one its get snatched immediately.

Hey man,
Zombie had posted in one of the other boards that the af-18-af28 are the closest. The others do have different specs, parts.. ever slightly but different..
For what you'll spend hunting a dio engine, etc. you can get a replacement crank, bearings, etc. ALOT cheaper. Besides, if you wanting another engine to buy, why not order another zx engine?. ;) ;D
Are you certain the crank is broke?
I'd rebuild...IMHO....
YES, it may cause a headache, YES you may cuss the heavens, YES, you may want to burn/hit the scooter w/hammer.
If you will look at MY threads in here, i have pics posted, Even broke a crankshaft. I can feel your pain my friend, trust me, a cpl of us are still around able to help. The 1st time was so fkn fun, a m.fkr at the same time. That satisfing feeling when she fires on 1-2 kicks can't be beaten + look at the skills you gained, the labor cost you have saved. ;)

Oh hell yeah...
Compared to an elite, the z is big... :D
12" wheels instead of 10" ;)
Frame not AS mushy when speeds are reached. ;)
I love the way my z handled........... but of course i upgraded to S9 suspension(F & B)/brakes/wheels...

The Honda engine is Not a direct bolt in. The mount is different. Maybe strip down your engine/get an OEM crank, and let the shop install it for you. It wont take an hour to do, and you can rebuild from there. I have an OEM ZX crank with about 2 days of riding on it. I will sell it for 75 bucks (1/2 price). It was supposed to go in a mild build, but I used a stroker instead.
If you really want to follow the Honda route you will need some cutting tools, Ie grinder w/ cut off wheel to modify the zx mount to fit the dio. The Honda spree elite sr all have af18 base engines. Maybe 300.00 or so can get you a whole scoot. Just 4 sale the frame/body. Lots of kids still mod them

..see?!...

Shoulda said try the elite forum for leads on the engine. The deal is they all look for zx engines to use cause the zx has a better cvt ratio. One of them would gladly trade a running spree engine for a blown zx engine. True Dio engines are rare in the US. The scoot was never imported here.
