most of my bolts on the kick start coer are all striped out. do you guys thing a larger self taping screw well work.

Don't try self taping. The cases will crack. Use a 1/4x20 tap to open the holes, and replace the bolts with 1/4x20. Just snug will do.

..when you tighten, after thread repair..remember that you're squeezing the rubber seal...

..don't try to get metal-to-metal tight...
