You can get a 65 or 70cc kit on ebay for about $85 shipped. Doesn't get much cheaper than that. Honda Dio has the same engine as the ZX.

You may need to re jet your carb To tune it to the new exhaust , then if your variator belt and weights are properly tuned you should be able to reach 50mph or so .

I am thinking about changing clutch springs with 1500 yellow springs and buying a mallossi variator with a 1500 yellow spring. Will that make it go and accelerate faster? And will it go faster uphill?

You may have the wrong impression about parts oldschool....
A yellow spring IS NOT going to make any thing faster. It'll just hold the "gear" longer, helps going up hills....
A multivar MAY get some extra on top end(another seemingly never ending debate) some claim 4mph on top end... I didnt get anything really.. It does help the "shifting", makes it smoother, better.. The ramp plate is different than the oem to aid the roller travel.
Even a bbk will only net about 5mph but the torque is a different story, it'll get you there quicker. ;)

You should be running at 50mph all day. Trick is getting the rollers right now. You will most likely end up at OEM (8gr) or heavier. You will want to run around 7,500 - 8,500 rpm wot

what makes more torque?
Title: Re: Kymco tuning opinions and advices.
Post by: zombie on March 17, 2012, 03:19:31 AM
More cc's = more torque
Getting ALL the torque to the wheel is in the cvt tuning. Every thing you change changes everything else. Cool HUH?

TRUE sh** THERE.. EVERY TIME you touch something, the cvt will likely change.
THAT alone has just chapped my ass many times.. :D ;)

i might just order a variator and clutch and belt all new and high performance and see if that does anything...if not ill sell it i guess i already have right at 450$ - 500$ in it.. lol im a poor girl i aint got money to blow.. >:( :D :-*

I feel ya there girl.. MEEEEE toooo. ;)  (cept i'm a guy  :D ;))
That's why YOU should do it to save the labor cost. That was the 1st reason i had for wanting to mod mine..
I'd try rollers before i went and spent $100+. My S9 was running the OEM bell, belt and var and she did 62. Springs and rollers in the cvt...(yeah, she was kitted as well)

I agree, don't order a performance variator yet

This is what I used to tune my variator:

Scooter works also has clutch springs and they are cheap. About 6 bucks a set I think.

You may be able to find the tuning kit a little cheaper somewhere else. Another thing, the rollers in the tuning kit don't last very long but are great to find the right weight.

I have already putted the variator with 8 gram weights i bought it for 45 bucks second hand with a new yellow sprig that haven't putted on yet.Maybe next week i have absolutely no time at all during the day even I couldn't find time to test the scooters top speed.I putted the variator yesterday ot 11.30pm tomorrow I'am going to test it and tell you how it went. ;)

I tested the bike today it was good on the straights but very slow up hill slower than before why is that?If i put the stiffer spring will it go faster up hills? :-[

Post by: thebatman on March 18, 2012, 05:58:53 PM
slower than before why is that?If

Your cvt isn't right on the money..
Stiffer springs will not make you go faster...
Yes a stiffer spring will hold THAT "gear longer" and help with the hills IF THE ROLLERS ARE IN GOOD BALANCE WITH THE SPRING
What weight rollers do you have in it now?
With a 1500 spring, you may need the oem 8.5..(i ran 7-7.5 with a 1000)

Are your rpms the same as before? Higher? Lower?
Title: Re: Kymco tuning opinions and advices.
Post by: oldschoolsanta on March 18, 2012, 07:15:17 PM
I have 8 gram rollers it goes and accelerates a little bit faster and i'am doing 45 mph on the straights no problem before 42.The rpms are maybe a little bit higher.

The Yellow Malossi is very little more than OEM in tension. Try the 7 gram rollers, or 8gr Dr. pulley sliders. Either one will add some rpms to MAKE the spring work. Since you are that close I would buy either Malossi or dr pulley rollers, or the sliders. CHEAP rollers are good for tuning ONLY, and will not last. This one last set will get you up hills with ease.

I'am going to put the yellow spring maybe on wednesday and if my 8 gram rollers don't work well with it i will put 7 gram rollers but won't that reduce the top speed?

I thought you put the spring in already. Do the spring first. It will change EVERYTHING.

Yellow spring made a huge difference i had i installed today it goes alot faster up hill and i accelerates faster too i am very happy. But the top speed fell down a little bit from 45 to 42 mph i didn't like that

Try 1-2gr heavier on the rollers to get the top end back. Get GOOD rollers because the heavier spring puts more wear on them.

Post by: wordslinger on March 20, 2012, 10:45:59 PM
..it also allows you to install a slightly longer belt than oem...

..that'll give you a bit more top-end, but you might have to further tune rollers...

..DONT install a longer belt unless your scoot has a set of driven pulleys that are not restricted...

 ;)
