Title: People 50 mods
Post by: agua on February 29, 2012, 11:30:01 PM
Hi, I recently rebuilt my People 50 and put a 70cc kit on  it.
Im looking for a few mods to do that would be cheap to increase performance. I also put a air cleaner on it.
Thanks

The Variator/torque spring are the biggest bang for the buck. Malossi has the best (IMHO) var. for everyday use, and with the kit installed a 1500 contra spring will improve the whole feel of the scoot.
Keep posting results. It helps alot others

Airsal i belive it was called, super easy with prior engine rebuild knowledge. Im breaking it in and still have to adjust the high / slow speeds. But all and all its great, sounds "poppier" and has good pickup

Welcome! ;D zombie's advice is spot on as usual. You should get pretty good performance with what you have. Check the belt width if you're not getting enough top speed. Play with some different rollers. Scooterworks sells a roller tuning kit with a bunch of different weights. What year is yours? Newer models(like mine) come with a very restrictive exhaust. I would recommend a Tecnigas pipe to replace it.

Just my opinion: Invest in a new carburetor. That stock carb is a pain in the arse.

Ya the carb has allready been kicking me in the nuts man, i added a fuel filter in the line when i rebuilt it and there was already one inside the pump but it still managed to get clogged or something. I think its a 2005

p.s is there a good reliable site thats sells parts for a reasonable price thats US based, i ordered my kit from raceingplanet and it took a decade to get here

Scooterworks had mine here in like 3 days! They're willing to bargain too

Aftermarket and some replacement:

I've ordered from all of them and Scooterworks is my favorite. Not always the cheapest though.

Depends on what you are looking for. Basic parts I use http://www.partsforscooters.com/ (http://www.partsforscooters.com/)
High performance I use http://www.jiangwayne.com/scooter/parts.php (http://www.jiangwayne.com/scooter/parts.php) They are in Taiwan but ship same day, and have one of the best tuners I have ever talked to. Wayne.
OEM parts http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/ (http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/)
Malossi/Polinni parts http://www.spi-parts.com/ (http://www.spi-parts.com/) The fella that owns spi is a mechanic that worked the circuit for team Yamaha. He KNOWS sh**! Lots of sh** about scoots.
The first three are the best prices you will find. They all price match too. SPI gives a 10% discount if you mention Zuma forum, and with enough sales Kymco forum will be added to the promotion. So mention us to.
Forgot Bike bandit for tires http://www.bikebandit.com/ (http://www.bikebandit.com/) Also price matching.

I think 2004 and older had the really good exhaust. 2009 or 2010 and newer have the really restricted exhaust. I guess the ones in between were just okay.

"Ya the carb has allready been kicking me in the nuts man, i added a fuel filter in the line when i rebuilt it and there was already one inside the pump but it still managed to get clogged or something. I think its a 2005"

Two things... DON"T use silicone gasket maker. It will clog the jets in the carb. Check inside the tank for rust. I have had my share of chasing that one. Muriatic acid will wash out any rust. Just be careful, and only let it set for 1 minute or less. Any more, and you have a strainer.

Wow! SPIs got a Tecnigas next R pipe for $90. That's a steal! They're out of stock but still. I'd jump on that if I didn't already have one.

Use the RS2. The next r is good for 50-70cc's and only does 7g power band
The RS2 does 8.5g's and is good up to 90cc's. It's still not the BEST pipe but for street it is hard to beat. Mine is 4 years old, and still looks /works fine. If you run w/ no packing you can get another 1k rpms from it. Best part is they are the same price.
Don't forget to mention the forums.

I didn't see it either. They probably don't have it on the website. They may have the RS2 in stock. If they're the same price definitely go for the RS2. Hell, I might get one myself.

They will have it. I think the Rs2 has a new name tho. Maybe trek? I'd give them a call. If you place an order before 4:00 pm They ship same day too

MHR Too! I wonder what the deal is!
The Jiangwayne Pipe I just got is hands down better than Any of the tech's tho. It's tuned at 8'500 but can be retuned with different silencers to a degree. Longer silencer=less rpm.
http://www.jiangwayne.com/scooter/p_tags.php?t=3&p=0 (http://www.jiangwayne.com/scooter/p_tags.php?t=3&p=0)
Check ebay for that pipe. Jw has just found ebay as an outlet, and gives better prices. Mention the Kymco forum for 10%. Wayne reads here but does not post. Like always CALL!  Ps... They DO RACE!

You're gonna need jets, and a new intake manifold... Ah... Tunning 101. Don't think the carb will bolt on and that will be the end of it or you will toast your scoot. ANdddddd. Don't install the pipe w/o up sizing your jets.

the pipe came with 5gram roller weights, should i install them? what do these do?
Title: Re: People 50 mods
Post by: Peters on March 07, 2012, 08:06:15 PM
Won't hurt to try them if you haven't already played with the weights.
Title: Re: People 50 mods
Post by: zombie on March 07, 2012, 09:28:49 PM
Lighter weights give you higher rpm's, and heavier give you lower. Most after market pipes require or ran at higher rpms. You will need to ask what rpm range your new pipe runs at, and use the rollers to attain them. That is why re jetting the carb is needed to allow the engine to maintain a proper ratio at these increased rpms. Plus the new pipe scavenges the gases better leading to lean running.

..reckon that's why my s9 is turning slower with oem rollers after installing my new technigas pipe....pipe came with 7 grams...i've been running the 8.5 with oem pipe...

That is soooo funny. I just posted that under your utube new pipe! Skill Saw baby...
MGM Cow Intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlPENxzYwWY#ws)
You NEED rpm's. 5.5's did the z at 11k with the other kit. Your vid sounded like 7.5k

Uh oh, you've been bit by the performance bug now :D ;)

Do plug chops to make sure you're not running lean. Rich is ok, lean is not. Make sure you do it when the new carb comes in too.

No you don't

I hate to be a stickler, but just checking the plug is not good enough. Google plug chop. Read several how tos. Food for thought :)
