Title: 2009 Xciting 500 look was getting old
Post by: htcneil2 on January 30, 2012, 05:34:24 PM
So i was using my Xciting 500 less and less becuase i got the TMAX. I would rather take it out cause it just looked better, and it no doubt is a faster and better handling bike.

The Xciting was my first bike so i have been totally against selling it. However the look was getting old and less appealing to me (jealous that the downtown 300ri and xciting 400ri were just too sexy), but i have a 500 and it's now...just old.

So this weekend i set out to make my 500ri. I painted some parts and popped a couple of stickers on it and....

So now, I'm Xcited again about my bike.

BTW our 1 cylinder is much quieter at highway speeds than the tmax

the one i have is only 100 watt, and it sounds really good, with pretty good bass, compared to the mirror speakers i got from them (stay away from those, they fall apart) I can only imagine what 250 watt would sound like.

Again i can here it going 70-80mph witht the short screen. Much better though when i have my modified givi (cut three inches)

It might help to read up on some of the basics of audio, 250W doesn't have to be better, and not even louder.
Some loudspeakers will go louder with just 10W then others with 100W of amplifier power.
It's a bit more complicated then just looking at power ratings.

Thanks, for the speaker/sound system update. Will look into doing some "mods" aswell.

so i had to go ahead and put the new fairing on because the old fairing was about to come off (old wreck destroyed plastic that screws screw into). I also took of the front fender so I can paint it black to check out that look (front fender was scratched up too), however I kinda like the look of the bike without the fender.

I know that the upper fairing can get sprayed with dirt and such, but i was wondering what you guys thought of the look.

I may get the new Fairing painted by professionals this time. Or stay with it. Honestly both look good.

PS: I got an offer of $2400 after listing it on craigslist for 3000. I do have over 30000 miles, but i still like the bike. Its so quiet with my CUT givi windsheil in comparison to my TMAX.

Did you use any red paint, or did you just use the black? My deep red 500 is getting very close to pink in places.

Never touched the red in the original picture. This last pic i took is a new fairing i bought a while back but just put on. It looks brand new in the front. However i did notice i may have to buff the rear plstics cause it does look faded. I keep my bike in the garage but has been through the elements for over 30000 miles.

Better put the fender back on or your going to get a rock/nail or screw sent through your radiator real soon! I like the look with the fender myself. I always liked the look of a 2 tone seat when 1/2 of it matches the bikes color. I'm over 30,000 now also. Any problems to report? I hope not. :-*

The bike looks great!  I'm just curious as to where you got the bottle holder.  Is it home made?

How is buffing the rear plastic going to restore the color?

Did you install the front fairing yourself? If so, was it difficult? I am a mechanical black hole. If i pick up a wrench and walk around, things start falling apart :-)

I'd like to keep my scoot red, but I'm also considering buying new white plastic because faded white plastic won't look near as bad as faded red. I'm also looking into replacing all th little screws and bolts becasue of the factory ones rusting.

Just a bit of rust help.... When I was in amateur radio, any outside nut and bolt work I did, I sprayed them with clear lacquer (several coats) and never had a rust problem. I put up a flag pole, sprayed the top ball, pulleys, nuts bolts and all that was exposed and even sprayed before assembly consequently no rust to this day. I keep 2 cans around all the time. Lawn mower nuts and bolts...I also sprayed..it surely works and doesn't take any time to do so. Just my bit of preventative.

I'll give the clear lacquer a try.

It may just be oxidized. You may be able to buff the clear coat

i know this is an old topic but i really like what you have done to the look. looks sharp. i really like how it looks without the front fender but a good point was made that we need to protect our cooling system (radiator). i saw this post yesterday and it inspired me to black out my front fender on my 2012 xc500ri. i like it, came out nice. the next plan is to rig up a new license plate mount so i can take off that big black rear fender :D

Your mod's look very nice!

I had a new 2009 T-max 500 and it was the sportbike of the scooter family, with no stateside competition.

I've had 2 650 Burgman's and they are the Motorhome of the scooter family, with their size and comfort.

My new Xciting 500 falls somewhere in between: Not as fast as the T-max and not as comfortable as the Burgman's.

The Xciting 500 though was 1/2 the price of the others so I'm happy---so far:)

Sam:)
