Title: Riding in the snow
Post by: Ducktart on November 18, 2011, 03:13:55 PM
Any tips and or recommendations? Can it safely be done? This is my first year with a scooter as my only form of transportation.

I ride scoots in the snow.

Safely - not. Not even close.

My friend made snow chains for me last winter, did not have the chance to try them yet.

If you are not extremely experienced in long distance rain riding, well equipped (chains, riding gear AND insurance policy) and a bit crazy ("Jackass" crowd-like), I would skip that.

Did you read this thread  - http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=1620.msg9324#msg9324 (http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=1620.msg9324#msg9324) ?

Pictures of bikes on snow look like lots of fun but even the smallest decline is a major issue. Also, you almost cannot brake or steer on snow.

not unless you don't value your life.......the closest i got to riding in the snow was last December when we had a major snow storm in the ne.....it was about 11 pm and i was off to seven eleven ....came out of store and it was snowing....got on scoot and by the time i got home visibility....virtually non existent.....i had to do a short ride on the highway....to get to my house.....i finally made it and pulled right into the garage ....where my scooter stayed until mid march of the following year...

Don't they make skis for the front tire on some bikes? Ski for the front and small ones for your feet, keep them on the snow for balance and your good to go!

Do not try this at home, I'm only joking!!! Watch, someone will try it.
